This Lou Rawls number could be found in th jukebox of any club or bar in Paterson, NJ back in th 60's aaaaaaaand especially in th LINCOLN CLUB on West Broadway! ... Shout out to El Gigante! -- My Brother -- Mr Bad Ass George Wyche!
I remember at the age of 16 yrs old a young man by the name Greg Darrell from Somerset Bermuda enter a talent show and he sang this song.Boy! Lou Rawls would have been proud if he had heared this young man Oh! how he love to sing lou's songs
as we grow the songs we heard and did not understand as adults now we understand the pain, seeing the girl grying, the woman or man drinking in sorrow and not we understand, i never thought i would understand this song wow each moment you reach out and that joy that comes with a kiss or hug, it not enough but just enough to make you feel that the love
Havent heard this in a long time. Needed to hear this tonight....or...this mornin....its 3:28 am hehe .....so.....yea was thinking about this one recently and its just perfect for now. (thinkin about somebody and some things) But its perfect forever I s'pose. Thank you & peace and love to you.
Listen up youngsters you may need to download this and keep this song close because if you think you may not need this song one day, you will be wrong and you will be trying to figure it out so you need to download this now and hold on to it for later and all that has went through this already know what I am talking about.
lou's voice was so smooth and pitch perfect. From baritone to those tenor notes Lou Rawls was the man....rip dear soul. I know that heavenly choir is now fuller with your voice added to theirs.
Chi-Town Alex... we have the same story. I was 10 years old on the South Side of Chicago in 1966. In 1962, I was over-the-top for Ms. Nancy Wilson and her rendition of When Did You Leave Heaven, from her Broadway album, standing on a star in a yellow gown. When Lou Rawls came out with his LIVE album in 1966-67, I knew the album backwards. Great musical stories in three minutes or so, was awesome. That's when music was music. EZ maudoc
When I was 12 I fell in love (or so I thought) with a girl who slapped my face. She wouldn't give me a second look no matter what I did. This song along with "Love On A Two Way Street", "If You Let Me Make Love To You", and "Walk On By" (Ike Hayes) got me thourgh some bad times. Women didn't know what kind of power they had over us men. Or did they?
Thanks for posting this timeless classic, cause love is still a hurting thing and these lyrics tell the story so well....when love brings so much joy why must it bring such pain , yes it's a mystery that no body can explain........Maybe I'm a fool to keep on loving you cause there may come a time you'll break my heart in two , but I want you so....I want you to know I know that love is a hurting thing......

@utubemusiccritic The first, definitely! The second...with DVDs or classic TV shows and new satellite/cable TV stations popping up like HUBTV and THISTV and the "Digital TV Mandate" expanding THISTV access, we can't say that, or at least few people that I know can say that. Your viewing area may vary.
LOVE IT ! ! Takes me back to junior high school in Southern California in 1966......I was 13 that year and loved this song as soon as I heard it.......Those music days will never return.......The American music industry died in the 1980's to
1990's.......Rest in Peace music industry......We will NEVER forget you.....Thank God for Thomas Alva Edison and the invention of sound recording.....Thank you Mister Edison.......Sierra Cuban, Miami, La Florida, U.S.A.
@gorickard319582010 AMEN TO THAT........And as I said above, Rest In Peace also American music industry......I was PRIVILEGED to have been young in those years........I arrived in Los Angeles, California from Cuba in 1963, and did not realize that I was about to be SWEPT by the greatest music years of ALL TIME !
NEW HITS came out daily at the speed of a machine gun.....It was INCREDIBLE !
I remember this song along with "Love on a Two Way Street", "Walk on By (Issac Hayes)", "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" and "Only the Strong Survive".
I think I was about thirteen or fourteen. That girl really messed my mind up !
I have no idea why so many "oldies" stations don't play this fantastic song! Now THAT's a mystery that nobody can explain!!! Thanks for posting this classic!
@utubemusiccritic It's almost like history is being suppressed. God forbid that future generations know that we actually DID things in this country; today's corporate structure, which killed the music industry and is in the process of killing our nation, wouldn't want us to be reminded of these things.
Your political stuff aside, a lot of MUSICAL history is being suppressed. R&B songs like this from the 60s aren't played on oldies radio unless they're either Motown or Stax/Volt/Atlantic or James Brown. Not that the aforementioned artists aren't great, but the stuff from other companies has been edged out because of the giant publicity machines from Motown, Atlantic, Polydor, etc. Even Curtis Mayfield doesn't get played much anymore.
@RaananVolesPianist My comments about the corporate structure are more than just "political stuff." This is reality, and our country is worse off for it. Why do you think there's an "Occupy" movement right now?
Wow! i can't believe that I am the first to post on this great song and singer. Check out these lyrics, and if you've ever been in love before, you know that love is a hurting thing!
@jahmari4 Wow. You remember that? From the 60s? Greg was my brother.

A #1 hit for Lou Rawls on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 150th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #13 on the Top 40 charts.

Great song and unusual construction. The chords and melody are not typical and Lou almost scats some of the lines.

What a song, what a voice. They used to call this kind of stuff soul music & you can't beat it.
