  • Love this!

  • @aijivl stop trolling man

  • Fantastic group and music! Electric sailor Man is halarious. I found this album at a thift store in '72 and was high for a week. BTW Mr. Copycat, you are correct bout one thing in your idiotic statement above, there would be a lot of older cool dudes around now w/o the war. However, they are way past "cool' now, they are heros, in heaven for protecting your ass. It's a lot easier to run your ignorant mouth than to PROUDLY bleed to death.

  • love that video!!everybody there having good times!!!yeah!!!thanks for sharing!!!

  • * * * EXSANGUINATION THE MOVIE ©2011 * * *

    IS SPOOKIER THAN SPOOKY TOOTH.

    YEAH...

  • lol and here I always thought this was a Judas Priest tune :\

  • @hanky2112 Yeah, I was a Priest kid and only much later realised that they do a fair number of covers. So does Nazareth, Aerosmith and CheapTrick, just to name a few. That is why I have to try and hold my tongue when folks slam one style while touting staunchly another. The true artist sees beyond approach and into the song itself, hoping to give us its' essence regardless of 'POP' or social constructs which would otherwise seperate us from art and beauty. Staying open, learning, and teaching,OK

  • Gary´s keyboard solo (from 4:01) is a lection on simple, but most effective playing, everything directed toward the next level of cooking up the music, the listener .

Oooooh, extremely intense performance from all.

  • too slow

  • THEY CAN STILL FUCKIN DO IT!

  • One of the few vocalists who has a voice improving with age Soren Toov

  • wow, just discoverd a new band, (well for me they are new) another great band of the old days, \m/

  • this song just made me kill myself...thanks

  • @Spooner22 No, really, thank you...

  • @gracealone420 no, honestly...

  • now thats a voice and thats how to sing

  • Older men do it better.

  • jerry jones lookalike

  • This is the first time that I have heard a song by tow different groups and I love both versions. Spooky and Judas

  • @01artist don't forget the version of krautrock-band "armaggedon"

  • baby arm

  • Better by The Tooth than by Judas Priest tho

  • @criminaltango I was listening to this song by Spooky Tooth years before Judas Priest had ever even met.

The song was published on the band's 1969 album Spooky Two.

Wikipedia: "Better By You, Better Than Me" is a song by the band Spooky Tooth and written by its keyboardist Gary Wright. It is also famous in the cover version by British heavy metal band Judas Priest.

  • @criminaltango sorry, you got it backward

  • so geil ....

  • JERRY JONES - rock star!

  • Damn good voice for his age. Nice.

  • Mike Harrison's voice sounds great, classic song.....thx for the upload!

Too bad Luther wasn't on guitar.

  • WHEN THIS SONG CAME OUT THERE WAS A LOT OF BULL SHIT W/ DUDES IN VIET NAM & MANY JUST WERE NOT INTO KILLING, ESPECIALLY WHEN WERE AGAINST THIS POLITICAL WAR. NEVER DECLARED A WAR THAT LASTED OVER 10 YEARS. SAD. FUCKIN DRAFT. THIS COUNTRY WOULD HAVE SOME AWESOME OLD DUDES IF THE RICH FUCKIN POLITIANS LIKE PRES JOHNSON DIDN'T KILL OFF THAT GENERATION OF MEN THAT REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO BE KILLING FOR BULL SHIT. 10 YEARS THERE!! COMMUNISM CONTINUES, THE KILLING OF DOGS & CATS ARE SKINNED ALIVE! WAR

  • solo na huljofonu je prejeben

  • Fantastic to see they are still Playing this all time classic!Love the single audience scream at 2:13,right on time no less, would of been great for a live recording if one was made here!

Also, some very rare studio rehersal footage of Spooky Tooth performing this track no less, has just been uploaded to YT lately.Well worth checking out, great material and performance as well.A search for this track and studio should return the appropriate clip.Is somewhat lacking here without the Hammond. Thanks

  • Man is this for real, what a survivor...

    voice is great

  • What? I've never heard of these guys??!! How many rockers' voices actually sound better 40+ years later? Some, but I haven't even heard of ST! Unbelieveably cool! I did just buy some ST stuff from iTunes, but they dont seem to have much of the old stuff. I wanted "Things Change" from "Witness."

  • I'm not a hater, but the Judas Priest version is clearly superior,

This version just plods along and never really reaches take-off velocity.

  • Gary still resembles a miniature Gitmo inmate with a giant stylophone, and Mike Harrison still looks excrutiatingly cool :D

  • I am always embarassed to find that a song I like is not original.

Bouree from Jethro Tull is a Classical song from a Master.

  • Freakin' spooky dude! Spooky Tooth still got it. I've always loved this song. 40+ years and I still love it.

    I will.....

  • Wow! Who knew Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could sing.

  • Simply Brilliant! As good, if not better than the original recording!

  • Great Cumbrian singer shows up bald twat with neck-draped musical knitting machine..

    Heh..

  • I'm embaressed to admit, I didn't know this wasn't originally a Judas Priest song, still rocks though.

  • @bigjimgtr Not.....released on the Spooky Two album in 1969. Well before Priest. Just sayin'

  • and on-one in the audience committed suicide either.

  • @19stjohn67 what?

  • Jerry Jones sings for this band????

  • Jerry Jones sings for this band????

  • great to see them still rocking but the casio keyboard does it's best to ruin it! the rest are tight

  • @thpriest The keytar is a Roland, not a Casio. Casio have not made a keytar in 20+ years :)

  • waoh bass player is awesome

  • I love this!!

    old yes, but still rocking...

  • Awesome...Incredible....i'm speechless ....great performance

  • Priest does a great rendition, but Spooky Tooth's original rocks!! And man, they still do! Awesome!

  • i would love to see them live

  • the guy in the green shirt in the crowd is so high he thinks he's at a slayer concert. notice how he acts compaired to everyone else.

  • Das war noch Musik ! Was für musikalische Größen !

  • If you listen closely you can hear the subliminal msg, do it, do it...

  • Why is everybody worried about then and now? Think about it.

  • lol notice everyone in the crowd is going bald!

  • i heard spooky in 69-they are better by me now

  • Great group..all great musicians..I love the drummers style.

it's good to know they still perform.Mike has the best voice in Brit rock bands.!

  • what a voice ! still ! on of the best bands ever.

  • wow - they still sound good! what a great band...

  • Since now, never heard the original... Also real great! Old men still keep on rocking!

  • back to 1969! Great! I still love it!

  • this is great, where was this show at?

  • Whatever-Spooky Tooth are on my bucket list

  • @davey4557 is another teenage know it all!!!

  • pretty cool!!!

  • as contrasteid with rob halford, harrison's voice and singing abilities get better with age. but the slow sound somehow makes me feel sleepy and not sober, it's almost psychedellic. the feeling expressed has simply nothing in common with the priest cover :D

  • Harrison sings with such authority. Age certainly hasn't withered him.

  • who is gary wright in this video?

  • @tbuzby

    Keyboard

  • do it

  • Seeing a keytar makes me want to attempt suicide.

  • do it

  • Real Music never dies - it's always NOW. Death to the robot death-mask providers of anything less than this that might be called music. Better by You, Better than Me - lots of acid tinged Sunday afternoon memories there, back then, long ago but only yesterday. Where are you Mr. Owsley? In the words of the Firesign Theatre : "Die fascist media pigs!" Indeed....

  • this band was better than you think-find tobacco road or,better yet,i am the walrus 10 times better than the beatles

  • this is great ,they are very close to as good as they were in the 60s

  • I don't know about the first heavy band. Tho Spooky Two is fantastic! Blue Cheer was earlier and very heavy. Hard to come up with "heavy" at any earlier date in my mind.

  • Lance Henriksen is singing?

  • respect

  • DO IT

  • The first "Heavy Band".....

  • One of the first riffs I learned to play on my old 'Broadway' electric guitar, way back 196.....9? Sweet.

  • Still great!

  • Who is the bassist? Very solid and pushing the band forward, but not as experimental or ad libbing as Thain used to be.

  • i have always liked this song heard the priest version first but this is epic

  • So if this song was involved in the suicides of two Judas Priest fans, why was Priest sued and not this band? I have nothing against Spooky Tooth (in fact, I've never heard of them until just now, as I'm watching this video), but doesn't it seem a little strange to anyone?

  • @servantlol Yes... very strange... but the PTA and other crap organs were out for blood. So why not go for a popular heavy metal singer... Its sick really... and makes my stomach turn.

  • @servantlol they were listening to the judas priest version.

  • @shumped Sorry but it's the other way round. Spooky Tooth did this when I was just a young lad and Judas Priest was still in their cradles

  • @gubsak55 the hell are you talking about?

  • @servantlol you are absolutely right. I've thought the same thing. Both of the recorded versions of this song are fairly heavy. i think Priest got sued because of the heavy metal stigma that was around during the eighties. In truth Spooky Tooth were one of the first heavy bands back in the late sixties and there were no reports of mass suicide because of this song.

  • just a fabulus song...its amazing how inspirational some people can be....i just wish to have more wonderful songs like this in the decades that 're coming...we need them...its not only the memmories of the past that they re keeping us alive but the need of hope of the future...

  • Cool!!!

  • Mike Kellie was a great drummer. He was in the Punk band " The Only Ones".

  • spooky tooth was one of the great bands of the late 60's mike harrison and gary wright traded vocals and Luther Grosnover was one of the most influential guitarists of that era who later went on to be a force behind Mott the Hoople. and gary wright went on to 'Dream weaver' fame. this' years later' get together is a real treat as i know nothing about it.

  • My favorite Judas song... And i thought it was JP who wrote this... Guess i was wrong... This version is awesome but abit slow for me.

  • this guy has an awesome voice...I'm impressed! All this time I thought it was a JP song

  • @LordsOfBelltown

He also told Deep Purple "No" when they asked him to be the singer in their band.....so your not the only one (plus me) who thinks he's got a killer voice

  • ...great old times...i'm just sad that they don't play in the US...

  • Late night high school music for me.

Thanks for the memories. 1970 ish, I think this album came out.

  • Wow, well done! Singer's voice sound brilliant - mesmerises me:) Long live Spooky Tooth:)

  • Great.---.where has it been..they still rockin...one of my favorites with evil woman and .wa9ting for the wind...***

  • Wow, wish I still had my old Nice Enough To Eat! compilation.

  • Wow! I thought thing song was a priest's original...

    This sounds so awsome!

  • Before the biker leather and whips priest played alota music and covered alota songs by bands like these

  • Wow! Mike Harrison,s voice still sounds great How recent is this?

  • read the description

  • Wow , they got old ! I guess middle - age is when you age round the middle ?

    Good band tho'

  • Love that keyboard solo.

  • This album is best heard in 1971 under the influence of acid. The way the whole album was produced was rather "spooky," or it was the acid. Who knows. This version is plodding, heavy, sounds like some screwed up American Indian pow-wow song. On the album, it is smoother and weird. As are all the songs. What a great voice, though!

  • @vcx9dfne

I happen to know "spooky two" practically by heart and would have to disagree: the version here is absolutely on tempo and practically identical except for gary wright`s solo. the playing is very, very tight: just watch mike kellie on the drums, or hear mike`s voice: it hasn`t deteriorated one bit. - this performance is magnificent and shows what (almost) 45 years of professional musicianship can amount to.

  • @shotdonkey No argument there! On Spooky Two, it's a very deliberate song. I think some atmospherics are missing live (either produced in the studio, or by my acid :) And yeah, his voice is perfect, hasn't lost any of that quality.

  • I've listened, closely via headphones, to a tremendous amount of music while on acid, but to live (and trip) during the time this was just coming out would have been... fucking brilliant. You are my hero.

  • in 1969 in a psycedelic induced trance ,i listened to Evil Woman' for hours and it is a permenent part of my being forever!

  • Love the riff!

  • awesome voice!! awesome theme, judas assholes hahaah

    joke ;)

  • still sounds fantastic, love this song. The Priest version is not far behind but this one has a nicer groove.

  • Great to see the guys still playing. Spooky Two is a great album but it's a pity they've altered the riff slightly.

  • The old fellas can STILL ROCK!

  • I like the Judas version more, but it's still good :)

  • @AlexzFunka

Yes!! Priest pulled this shit out soooo bad!!! killer!!!

  • @AlexzFunka

    quark....original always the best

  • @marcosfastback

    Well, It's your modest opinion.

  • @AlexzFunka Its not Judas's song they just covered it. This is the real deal 1969.

  • @fanfestdhl

I know, I just want to say that I like the cover more, that's all :)

  • @AlexzFunka

These words fit only to Mike Harrison's mouth. Huge version from the Priest but too flat.

  • Great track!

The history writers like to put forward Iron Butterfly and 'in a Gadda Da Vida" as one of the first examples of a Heavy Metal song. At the time the Americans were listening to In a Gadda, the British were listening to Spooky Tooth. When they toured in 1969 Black Sabbath were their support band - surely Spooky played a big part in the Story of HM - but they never get a mention ^_^

  • I guess that Spooky Tooth gets shoehorned into a "heavy blues" or "progressive rock" category.

  • It is great music 60 - 70 years !

  • Very good music Spooky Tooth !

  • this is still soooo good!!

  • Can you tell me when & where was this concert? Had no idea they'd reformed - do you know if there are any UK tours coming up?

  • it's the same stooge!!!but i also agree this is totally better with Priest behind the wheel

  • the guitar riff in the judas priest version was better.

  • Really great performance.Mike has one of the most distinctive voices in rock.!

  • I would agree.

  • Really strong performance!

They play better than 40 yrs. ago,

all three: Harrison, Kellie and Wright.

  • Yes, sorry I was wrong...

But great version of Spencer Mac.. Must listen to..

  • Brings back so many memories

  • Simply awesome.....!

  • Wow , I can't beleive I didn't know that this was not a Judas Priest original!!!!Mind boggling!!!

  • wunderschön!

  • LOOK, it's the Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones singing the song!!!!!

  • It sure looks close! They are probably not too far off in age!

  • And nobody knows the original song?

By Spencer Mac, is far better than the both covers..

    Bye

  • Say what?

    Gary Wright wrote the song.

(Personally I prefer the Priest cover...)

  • this is the original you idiot

  • This is the original song. It's written by Gary Wright (the keyboard player in red) and was originally on their second album "Spooky Two" in 1969.

  • It as also on the excellent Island sampler "Nice enough to eat" which I still listen to today - wicked!

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • Look at all the old guys in the audience, every one of them on a nostalgia trip.....you can't beat it.

  • Better By You, Better Than Me Screeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmm !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROb Rulez

  • great! takes me back to the 70's still great vocals and band

f*** all that pop idol crap

  • i like this version much better than priest's

though the second one is also really great

  • i luv it seen these as the vip"s at newcastle gogo and enjoyed them then

  • BOTH VERSIONS BAD ASS

thank u spooky for hooking this song up so priest could cover it!!

  • You Do Not Have To Watch

  • .....Did you even read what I said ??

  • Thank you for this video and this great band! I heard the ST in the 70`and I loved them so much. And for all who says it´s too slow - lokk at them - they aren´t twenty- they aren´t fourty and they arent fifty..... but the voice and the love to their musik is as good as in younger days.
