Fantastic group and music! Electric sailor Man is halarious. I found this album at a thift store in '72 and was high for a week. BTW Mr. Copycat, you are correct bout one thing in your idiotic statement above, there would be a lot of older cool dudes around now w/o the war. However, they are way past "cool' now, they are heros, in heaven for protecting your ass. It's a lot easier to run your ignorant mouth than to PROUDLY bleed to death.
@hanky2112 Yeah, I was a Priest kid and only much later realised that they do a fair number of covers. So does Nazareth, Aerosmith and CheapTrick, just to name a few. That is why I have to try and hold my tongue when folks slam one style while touting staunchly another. The true artist sees beyond approach and into the song itself, hoping to give us its' essence regardless of 'POP' or social constructs which would otherwise seperate us from art and beauty. Staying open, learning, and teaching,OK
Gary´s keyboard solo (from 4:01) is a lection on simple, but most effective playing, everything directed toward the next level of cooking up the music, the listener .
@criminaltango I was listening to this song by Spooky Tooth years before Judas Priest had ever even met.
The song was published on the band's 1969 album Spooky Two.
Wikipedia: "Better By You, Better Than Me" is a song by the band Spooky Tooth and written by its keyboardist Gary Wright. It is also famous in the cover version by British heavy metal band Judas Priest.
WHEN THIS SONG CAME OUT THERE WAS A LOT OF BULL SHIT W/ DUDES IN VIET NAM & MANY JUST WERE NOT INTO KILLING, ESPECIALLY WHEN WERE AGAINST THIS POLITICAL WAR. NEVER DECLARED A WAR THAT LASTED OVER 10 YEARS. SAD. FUCKIN DRAFT. THIS COUNTRY WOULD HAVE SOME AWESOME OLD DUDES IF THE RICH FUCKIN POLITIANS LIKE PRES JOHNSON DIDN'T KILL OFF THAT GENERATION OF MEN THAT REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO BE KILLING FOR BULL SHIT. 10 YEARS THERE!! COMMUNISM CONTINUES, THE KILLING OF DOGS & CATS ARE SKINNED ALIVE! WAR
Fantastic to see they are still Playing this all time classic!Love the single audience scream at 2:13,right on time no less, would of been great for a live recording if one was made here!
Also, some very rare studio rehersal footage of Spooky Tooth performing this track no less, has just been uploaded to YT lately.Well worth checking out, great material and performance as well.A search for this track and studio should return the appropriate clip.Is somewhat lacking here without the Hammond. Thanks
What? I've never heard of these guys??!! How many rockers' voices actually sound better 40+ years later? Some, but I haven't even heard of ST! Unbelieveably cool! I did just buy some ST stuff from iTunes, but they dont seem to have much of the old stuff. I wanted "Things Change" from "Witness."
as contrasteid with rob halford, harrison's voice and singing abilities get better with age. but the slow sound somehow makes me feel sleepy and not sober, it's almost psychedellic. the feeling expressed has simply nothing in common with the priest cover :D
