  • My Min Pin's normal cruising speed is 15 MPH (24 kph). She can do that for 3+ miles (4.8 km). Her top speed is 28 MPH+ (45 kph). She loves to run so much that I've thought about getting her a treadmill. Otto really seems to enjoy himself on it.

  • Hi Jackal136. I have found the GPs I've encountered are smart and easy to train, if you use common sense. If you've experienced a GP in the past and had difficulty, I recommend you should only consider a smaller breed for your next pet, perhaps a lapdog. Best wishes!

  • @Jackal136 Spirited does not mean hard to train. Any dog is hard to train if the trainer is not good.

  • German Pinscher are hard to train.

  • Otto is Bawse.

  • I love this!!

  • hes got a lovely gallop

  • beautiful dog, really healthy coat! that will keep him in real good shape. believe me, my 25 lb pinscher female does this for 20 mins a day and she is one ripped dog!!

  • I got a question; why did you decide not to get him docked or cropped?

  • thats amazing

  • i have a doberman

  • WHY HAVE I NOT THOUGHT OF THIS?! Genius!

  • I have a German Pinscher. His name is Blubber.

  • Hi Anthea, Robbie and of course Otto, I was looking around and wanted to see Otto on his treadmill again, he is really going for it.

    Nikki and Otto's GP family

  • It sounds like horses running. (:

  • how much are they to buy as puppies?

  • Hi, German Pinschers aren't cheap. Cost depends on whether you decide to get a 'Pet' or a 'Show' dog. Otto is a Show dog: Show dogs are more expensive. I think cost also depends on which breeder you buy from, I'm not sure about other breeders. Otto came from a renown breeder in Queensland and was flown down to us in Melbourne at 8 weeks. If you are interested in learning more about cost I can recommend a breeder closer to you, in Canada.

I'm interested in these elegant and feisty watchdogs and I'm from Canada, I'm having difficulty finding reputable GP breeders in Canada. I've tried locating some in the ckc.com or akc.com websites. DO you have the contact info of the breeder you have in mind, in Canada? I'd like to get in touch with them. Thanks and much appreciated.

  • Hi, GPs (in my opinion) are an amazing breed. Otto has loads of energy and is easily excitable. He can go bananas, running around like a headless chicken 24-7 up at the farm.

That said, from when we first got him at 8 weeks of age, he comes to work with me every day: I can work long hours (12-16 hours) and Otto is very patient. There can me periods of time (weeks) where he only has a 15 minute walk per day...I feel awful when he doesn't have a good walk/run but GPs adjust amazingly well.

  • This is great. I hear that GPs have a lot of built in energy, that always needs to be released. Are there any downsides to owning a GP? I'm thinking about getting one.

  • Cool! I understand most dogs love their treadmills. Kaisa would certainly have loved to have one a couple years ago.

  • why are some short-tailed and other aint?

  • Hi there, I'm assuming you're referring to the entire German Pinscher breed: some have short tails because they are docked (cut off when pups are 2-3 days old). In most Australian States it is now an illegal practice. Personally, I love their tails; they are so expressive! :)

  • That is one fine looking GP.

How old is he? I guess about 10-12 mos old?

  • I have clocked my GP Benny at 20mph/32kph on my bicycle. I estimate that he can run sustained speeds of 13mph/20kph for ten to fifteen minutes at a time. So far the record for one biking/hiking trip is fifteen miles in about three hours including breaks. He never stops unless we do no matter how tired he gets. The next day he is usually sore. Probably a combination of sore feet and muscles.

  • Thanks Rog! I reckon Benny is too! They seem to have very similar personalities too.... We've actually showed Otto a few times and he always brings home ribbons. We've actually decided to put him in our State's biggest annual show next month: I'm such a novice, but judges seem to love him...we'll see. :)

In that vid Otto had just turned 9 months. We don't want him on the treadie for too long considering he's still so young, we just do brief stints. But, he LOVES to run. ;)

  • Awesome, I need to get one of these for my pinscher, running is his favourite passtime!
