The steady tone was to signal a test, the second fluctuating tone was the test. The real fallout siren is a three count parabola with a three second pause in between.
That second one is eerie. When I was in third grade, we were having lunch at school and we heard that. I didn't hear the steady tone though. But when I heard that, one of my friends said, " is that a fire truck?" I said no, lol it is just a whelen wps 4008 and he is like how do you know that!?
Seabrook has only 121 sirens because almost half of their EPZ is offshore. Many nuke plants have over 200 depending on population density, topography, etc. Also the sirens that Seabrook uses have voice capacity so they could have announced the test on the sirens before activating them.
I was in school when they did this siren test the siren scared everyone in the school me and my friends are VERY big fans or nuclear power and we knew it was coming
With the people in the town hall not hearing the siren, even though it's close to them, it's never intended to be heard indoors. The intent of almost every siren installation is to warn people who are outside.
@bait28 This is true. I wish a siren system could be developed that was intended to be heard indoors. I would like to see a system that wasn't excessively loud outside but was effectively audible indoors in a modern residential structure. It would have to be practical for a municipality to install and maintain too. The T-135 or a larger Sentry Siren would likely be the closest thing.

What kind of siren is that. Loks like an ATI Rotater
shorttman1968 1 year ago
@shorttman1968 This siren is a Whelen WPS-4000-8 (also known as the WPS-4008) using the updated 560Hz tone module.
In addition to the WPS-4000-8, Seabrook also uses the Whelen WPS-3016, also fitted with the latest controllers and 560Hz tone modules.

@thecompanycar Umm, tempest 135's can be heard indoors, they should use them, or at least mechanical cause electric is shit
