  • how can there be dislikes on this!!!!!

  • I think there's another "D" that Ernie is interested in...i think Bert has some of it...

  • que bonito ahhhhhhhh

  • nice

  • I think Grover would've been a better choice for this song b/c of the passing out thing @ the end b/c as we all know, he gets tired very easily after only doing one or two things and it just would've been cute with this song. =D

  • Oh, that's where Carlos Mencia stole the song from!!!

  • Thumbs up if you typed in "Dee dee dee"

  • 1 person is a dee dee dee

  • i really think this is my favorite video and song from them <3<3

  • Poor Cookie looked like he was going to have a nervous breakdown at the end because Ernie was going so fast!

  • This brings back memories! Used to watch all the episodes and I also had a bunch of storybooks, videos and audio cassettes with these same songs on it. They sure helped expand my vocabulary! :)

  • I used have all the letter a-z on 45 records when I was little in carry case...

from sesame street....d was my favorite song ..to this day the only one i remember..

  • maybe cookie monster's shy!!!

  • It's a rare sketch where Ernie leaves Cookie Monster exasperated.

  • Dang! That begins with "D", and that's what I'm thinking! DANG THIS IS A GOOD VID!

  • They don't make Sesame Street like they do today. It sucks. :(

  • Ernie sounds like a doofus!!

  • I hope Cookie's OK.

  • Hey, look, it's Nu-13's theme song!

  • Ernie always did the best song. That's why I had an Ernie doll when I was little and why I'm still a little ticked she gave it away when she thought I wouldn't miss it.

  • @monmichka77 my mom I mean, LOL!

  • @monmichka77

I am very sorry for asking a question that you already answered! That will teach me to look up one post before posting a response!

  • @Smartboy8877 - LOL!

  • @monmichka77

    Who is "she"?

  • Actually, if they did a remix of this with Bert, it might start/end like this:

Ernie: Hi, everybody! It's me, Ernie again, here to sing a song about- Bert: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Ernie! When you do songs, people come out & it interupts me when I'm trying to do something. Ernie (jokingly): Really, Bert? I've never realized. (throaty cackle) Don't worry, this song's really calming. Nobody's gonna come in. Bert: Really? Ernie: No tricks. Bert: Like to believe that.

  • Ernie: Well, (music begins) like I said, this song's all about the 4th letter of the Alphabet, the letter D. (he sings the song, objects come out as Ernie sings them, Bert tries to complain, the animals help him through the song, at the end of the song, all the animals disappear) Bert (panting): I thought you said nothing'll come out! Ernie: Really, Bert? I didn't notice. (throaty cackle, leaves humming) Bert: & I still wonder why I live with him. (slips down chair)

  • Wow....Cookie only ate DINNER to illustrate DELICIOUS....even then only PART of the dinner.....didn't even bother with the used letter 'd' at the end....he must have been sick....or perhaps DELIRIOUS or DRUNK! He could have DRANK a DOZEN DRAFTS and then DROPPED DEAD DRULING.....naw I like Cookie Monster but he would be funny DRUNK!

  • OMG love this song! For obvious reasons (hint, hint my username) X3

  • You know, I've seen the DVDs with this, and I don't think they show Cookie Monster falling over backwards at the end anymore. I THOUGHT something was missing, and I'm glad to see it back!

  • I don't remember this one.

  • lol poor cookie monster trying to keep up with ernie's song :) i used to love this song!

  • Me too.

  • My Favorite part is when cookie monster throws that dish backwards then he flinches.

  • lol i remember when i was little insted of saying dee dee dee i would say tii tii tii

  • this is my favourite sesame street song. c is for cookie is a close second :)

  • Ernie is no Doofus, but cookie at the end was devastated :-D

  • LOL! I used to think Ernie was singing "Don't drop a dipshit down on the floor" even though he really said "Don't drop dishes down on the floor" as of being a silly tongue twister.

  • That would've been one embarrassing goof..."Come on, Sesame Street doesn't teach bad words!" from your kindergarten teacher. *LOL*

  • LOL! As to that in addition.

  • I also remember hearing this song on the Cassette Tape "The Best of Ernie" and "Bert & Ernie's Greatest Hits", along with "Sing the Alphabet".

  • Ooh, I love this song so much.

  • dude, why did Cookie Monster have a silent role in this song and why didn't he eat anything in this song, plus Ernie was very great in this song, infact Ernie totally rocks all the time.

  • I'm not sure if I am correct, but I think in the early days, that particular muppet was just a random blue monster who ate things. He was not known as Cookie Monster until a few years into the show. There's a funny clip around here somewhere of the first episode ever from 1969 where he eats the letter W as Kermit attempts to teach children.

  • DING DONG! You're WAY Wrong! Well, here goes the lecture =\

First of all, this clip is from Season 3 (1971-1972) and to my knowledge, Cookie Monster was pretty much Cookie Monster at that point. He's had his personality since late into the first season.

Second of all, He doesn't just eat cookies. He eats anything and everything! That's been one of his trademarks even since the beginning of the show. If not cookies, he'll eat anything else that catches his eye and seems appetizing to him.

  • @Jbrangwynne53

This was on an episode in 1994 that I taped as a kid. I didn't know it was that old.

  • @JethroWilbury: You're right; in the earliest episodes of Sesame Street, the future Cookie Monster didn't have a name (characters just called him "that monster") or a favorite food. I wish I knew which sketch established him as a cookie lover though!

  • He ate a sausage from the "dinner" plate. He also ate the "doughnut."

  • Wrong! He ate a sausage at 0:25- 0:27.

  • my name is daniel

    that starts with a D :D

    yay

  • Your name's Daniel? Okay.

So in that case, Daniel is a name that starts with the letter "D", according to this song sung by Ernie.

  • Dee Dee Dee Doggy and Dangerous Dragons nice :D

  • all children need to be afraid of serpents, after all.

  • Or at least of the kind that can fry you up and eat you.

  • D for delightful

  • From 1971.

  • mine too!

  • im not quite sure, is cookie monster suppose to srugle with getting the d to stand up

  • This is quite amusing. I particularly love Cookie's dance.

Nearly twenty years later, this gimick would be repeated with Telly trying to keep up with Randy Travis on demonstrating his considered actions on "How Should I Tell You I Love You?"

  • Yeah, me too!

  • I also think it would have been hilarious if they had made a second version with Bert instead of Cookie Monster. Bert could have complained about it a little at the beginning, and then passed out from frustration/exhaustion at the end.

  • On The Muppet Alphabet Album, Bert's voice was heard at the beginning of the song in which he said...

"Hey Ernie, do you know what letter comes after C?"

As the music begins, Ernie replies

"Indeed I do Bert. And if you listen to this song, I bet you might be able to guess what letter it is!

  • Interesting. Also, it's true that Bert isn't a Muppet designed for lifting things, so you're right that it would be hard to pull off successfully.

  • @Jbrangwynne53 I remember that album!!

  • It would fit, but I think it would be a little harder to pull off, especially considering the many items Bert would have to hold up if he was in Cookie's place. Bert's a rod hand puppet and it's pretty diificult to get a hand-rodded puppet to lift so many items all in one take.

I think that's why Cookie Monster was chosen, to visually demonstrate with Ernie, instead of Bert. It was much easier to do because Cookie's a live-handed puppet

  • This would be such a good skit to perform in a talent show.

  • That's a great idea!

I performed puppets for a local variety show for a number of years, and you're right; This would be fantastic to recreate for a talent show. I think it'd be a nice tribute and be fun to do at the same time.

  • Hey, your favorite! This skit is so good and so classic, I don't care how many times its posted.

  • You diden't need to upload this. MarshalGrover posted it last month.

  • I'm aware that Dee, Dee, Dee's been posted on YouTube at least 4 times already. I just wanted to put my own copy of it on here because I love the song so much =)

  • Oh, okay.
