  • Heyyyyyyyyyy I got one of these! LOL... Since 1998

  • SP 1200,the daddy to all you MPCs!if you don't have creativity,go by an MPC son (i like the MPCs but i hate suckas who don't recognise the legacy and value of this baby in this video).

  • THE MPC 2500 OWNS ALL THIS SHIT! my personal opinion.

  • Cool, old school knowledge of that wicked machine, thanks!

For a SP1200-beat in a different style you might want to check the Video on my channel.

    Peace

  • DJ Premier has used the SP12 for a lot of his music. Especially on the Gangstarr albums. Now he uses a host of other drum programming machines. I know this because i worked with him on the mastering of the Royce 5'9 album. For a full listing of gear and discography please checkout NXME.com. Thank You

  • @AxisRenovations It's tune decay which is a function labeled specifically on the front of the SP1200. There is another function called multi-pitch where pitch shifting occurs. If you own an SP1200 you would know this. I have owned one, used one, and made music for a lot of artists on it for years. How long have you used one and did they teach you production rhetoric at home depot or were you formally trained in the field?

  • "Tuned/Decay"... he means pitch shifting. I don't think this guy knows all that much about the SP1200. He also means to say ring modulation a few times in there.

  • i'd kill to have that kind of equipment..

  • preemo does not use the sp1200 -- he uses the mpc 60 as a sequencer controler only and the s950--

  • mpc 5000 is a joke...emu survive because of his unique sound synthesis ...they down with creative now to touch a larger market wich is good...cause emu is more professional than akai...mpc is gettin old and is out of date compared to an MV 8000 or 8800...i dont talk about software heads..cause most software are only used at 10 %..thats why i will always stay hardware...just like games on computer to play a game now you must spend 10 minutes with parameters...

  • WTF!!

    One for All:

"Nas Is Like" is produced by Premiere with the emu sp 1200..

  • Comment removed

  • WTF? Premier doesn't use the sp, he uses the akai s950 and the MPC-60

  • amazing what some dudes can do with 12 seconds of sample time.

I never heard pitch shifting referred to as "tune decay".

  • Primo dont use no 1200!!!

  • he did and pete rock did as well

    they updated overtime

  • WORD

  • Fruity loops is much more capable then this machine. and in fact u can load drum samples sampled by this machine in any sequencer. so thats why i sold my sp 1200 and i never regret it cause this machine isnt up to date with possibilties. all u need is a midi controller and good software and with this and the knowledge how to use it and what u can do, its damn amazing...

  • true. the SP is by far out of date. i've messed around with FL studio, MPC2000 & 3000, 500 and the sp. my fav is the MPC, love the feel to it

  • nukebutcher...you gotta be a goddam herb. switching from mpc1200 to flstudio..ahahha. with all the extra money you probably bougt some crack!!

  • premier uses the mpc 60 as a controller and the s950 for sampling

  • not only as a controller ;)

  • premier has never used an sp1200..., mpc60 all the way

  • is that a korg oasys??

  • damn sure is

  • Oooh this guy mentioned the Guru too. best kept secret right there.

  • Premo actually uses and MPC 60.

  • he Sayed that "The MPC60 Is Like a Cassette Without The Tape inside it" so true!

  • Can you do open closed hats on the sp1200?

  • You can 'do' any sound you put in it. If you are talking about turning an open hat sound into a closed one using decay, yes.

  • ERIC SADLER (From Bomb Squad- public Enemy) also used this monster.

  • You're all wrong. Premier used the SP-12 Turbo, he didn't use the 1200...

  • who gives a flyin f*ck

  • man why do people state facts as opinion

he used both models of the sp

sp12 on the first album and sp1200 later

    jeez

  • and dont get it twisted he still uses the mpc but i know for a fact that he'll occasionally use the sp

  • sp is cool... i liked it when it 1st came out, but i cant stand floppies or zips... RS fo' life bitches!!!

    da relic

  • Yeah its all about the sounds for sure. If you need any email me for the Complete List, i have over 2000 sample cds and dvds titles in all formats for every hard ware or software sampler out there. Plus all the best virtual synths in AU, RTAS, VST and DXi format. Only the best stuff for mac and pc.

  • all these dudes throw names around like so and so uses this and so and so uses that for credibility... who cares what they use... if they're bangin' joints then that's all that really matters. Ring Modulation and super wide audio frequency is where the SP shines...the sp12 turbo has a tad fatter sound for drums though because it records at a slightly higher sample rate.

  • Primo does not use the SP. Instead he has several MPC 60s and Akai S950s. He keeps them in different places and studios tho. Some of the MPC's he performs live with and then some he has laying around at different locations depending on where he's at. He also has some 60s and 950s just lying around in case he needs replacement parts.

  • some of you are missing the point the SP is a classic sampler/drum machine form the 80s...

no shit there is more powerful gear out now, but the sp holds its own...

same goes for the mpc 60 and 3000...

  • I hat the sp 1200 it has noe real purpose for being used anymore

  • dude...you're a funkin' idiot... i use the sp1200 every day and all day and it'll destroy any machine out today!

  • nice video

  • premo never used sp he got the mpc 60.

dope vid tho thanks i wanna get the sp 1 day pretty expensive though

  • Dope Video ma

  • griffinavid, im waiting for some video with s950 ("monster":))

    and combo sp1200+s950

  • I bet they where saying about those MPC cats too. And look, he has one. The SP 1200 is nice but all those thing and MORE and be done with any software or modern hardware..

  • software sucks. its "EMULATING" and PC' beatmaking is todays problem with music.

  • Nice run down of the SP1200. I need to get my record button fixed. I want to hear some more sp tracks.
