Did Ben Crawley do the speaking solo of the song as well as the singing solo? I love this version...its different but I like it. I think both LIbera's version and this version are fantastic
My chambor choir, Burntwood Chambor Choir (myself included) were the choir who did the backing vocals for the whole Snow Queen piece. I sang Soprano. Utterly the best experience of my life. We also recorded it in several different languages
Woah.. you are SO lucky! This piece, and all the others must have been amazing to play/sing! Just listening to the overture shows the complexities of the ensemble - everyone has got an interesting part! :)
It's annoying, because I remember downloading two songs from this movie, one of them being this. But I can't remember where I got them from. I searched the iTunes store but it's not there... :( Sorry...
@indreamdreamer Yep, you can buy it on Amazon. It's actually my choir singing on it! Type "paul k joyce the snow queen" into Amazon, and scroll down to the Audio CD version
Ben does a brilliant job on this song. Paul K. Joyce has written wonderful songs similar to this one. I say, has anyone seen the movie "The Snow Queen" it is brilliant. Well Done.
I have a million times! I love this one because it's very accurate to the books, unlike so many adaptations these days. This arrangement of Frye's wonderful poem is so beautiful. It gives me the shivers every time I listen to it or sing along to it.
It was originally a poem writen by Mary Frye in 1932, I think. Her friend, Ida, died and Mary was so grielf stricken that she just scribbled the poem down on a napkin...
Wikepedia - A set of operatic songs had been written by Paul K. Joyce for a concert at the Barbican Arts Centre held in 2003. The songs narrated the fairytale of The Snow Queen and featured Sydney White as the lead girl soprano, Juliet Stevenson as the narrator and the London Symphony Orchestra providing instrumentals. Due to the success of the concert, a full-fledged film was developed around the original songs, and in which Sydney White and Juliet Stevenson returned to contribute as actresses.
This one has a boy talking. The itunes Do not stand- The Snow Queen one does not seem so special, haunting or whatever you want to call it when she talks. Anyways.. I have said enough:)
The one available from itunes has a lady's voice in the talking part. This version is the best! I love Libera but this version, I prefer more by Ben Crawley on The Snow Queen.
My sister read this for me at the cemetery when my son died. Sadly, I read this for her 8 years later at the cemetery for the funeral for her daughter.
Watching this video sent chills through my body. Such painful memories. My heart goes out to all who have lost a loved one and we must have faith that they live on in another, and a better life, than the one here on earth.
Recently my rabbit I've had for 10 years died, it was the worst pain I felt - never had a family member or friend die. I've had him since I was 6, almost as long as I can remember. There is a strong bond between pets and owners, they become like your child, and so you REALLY care for them, which why I think people love their pets so much.I listened to this all day when my rabbit passed away, and occasionaly since then. I'm sure it will help me overcome more situations in the future.
Oh gosh, thank you SO MUCH for posting Mary Frye's original poem. It is much softer and comforting at the same time. I hope at least MY dear departed are not diamond glints on snow. Ugh.
Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am in a thousand winds that blow, I am the softly falling snow. I am the gentle showers of rain, I am the fields of ripening grain. I am in the morning hush, I am in the graceful rush Of beautiful birds in circling flight, I am the starshine of the night. I am in the flowers that bloom, I am in a quiet room. I am in the birds that sing, I am in each lovely thing.
That was so sad and beautiful! Who was the boy doing the speaking part? It doesn't sound like Ben. In the soundtrack it was a woman's voice, whoever she was doing the narrating. I love this video, thank you for sharing it!

And my heart is still breaking.

Never in this world should a parent be subdued to attend the funeral of their own child.

In this version, it is " I did not die". Both 'do' and 'did' seem to be acceptable.
Similarly, there is the other ending:
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep.

Pax Baldwin - the boy who played the part of Kay. The woman in the film is the same as on the CD and theatre version - Juliet Stevenson.
