You guys are having a blast . I first fired this gun in south Korea in 1992. 5.56 NATO I think we can use U. S. M16 mags. It's 4 lbs lighter than the saw. I really liked it back then.
I don't think Daewoo or Korean govt is selling them to US civilians. Korea has quite strict gun control. I think it got leaked out somehow as it's being sold to other countries gvt and military. I'm curious how they got it. Probably a 2nd hand weapon sold maybe at a black market.
Semiauto versions were exported in the past;then, they had to attach thumbhole stocks. SInce new registration for civillian possession was stopped in 1986, this K3 is an LE sample.
well, Daewoo is Korean company, so you might wanna check that out. even if you are serious of buying it, I recomend you not to. it is a piece of crap. I was K3 gunner when I was serving ROKA. It is really hard to maintain the gun. If you don't take a good care of it, the bullet will be jammed like in every 10 rounds. good fire power though.(which doesn't really matter becuz if you shoot too fast, you won't be able to aim the target with smoke coming out of the gun completely blinding you)
I think OICW should have been promoted and fielded as an automatic grenade launcher with built-in PDW (personal defense weapon) instead of a "next generation service rifle" for infantry troops. Same weapon but with a different designation and purpose - and issued primarily to grenadiers.
The Americans didn't abandon it because it was shitty... The OICW was being in the stage of development in the early 1990s, but since it was so expensive, they abandoned it probably to use the money to make nukes lol.
Eh... I wouldn't consider it impractical... Also, how would the Americans know, they never got it out of the prototype stage to test it in the battlefield. The XK-11 is fairly new, lighter, and a more practical version of the OICW I admitt, but you gotta say though, the technology that the OICW had in the 1990s is nothing compared to the stuff the XK-11 has.
the gun weighs 13.4 pounds unloaded. The M16 weighs 8.5. Also, do a google images search for XK11 KNR. It's fucking huge. No soldier will want to lug that shit around.
the koreans took the OICW concept but they did managed to get the weight down so it's about as heavy as a light machine gun like a minimi. it's not surprising that they got the weight down as many of our electronic components in defense industry come from japan and korea anyway, not to mention consumer electronics. OICW was heavy on electronics.
Has anyone ever tried put a Daewoo DP-51 (K5 for the military name)? I have read some good comments about it in other boards. I hope someone tries 'em out here on video!
the laughing was awsome!!!

Its a copy cat of the SAW. Anything a pretty white girl does is hot! Even shooting a gun.
RabbiTzedakah 2 years ago
It was inspired and based off the M249, but it's not a copy. There's a difference, sir.

I wonder how she got K3. if she bought it, she made a bad choice. it breaks so easily, and it's imposible to get the parts to repair.

so...it's basically a clone of our OICW? that we tossed because it was impractical and soldiers hated it?
filthywalrus 3 years ago
OICW? Its the same thing...
felex5000 3 years ago
yes, they basically took our OICW concept, that we abandoned because it was shitty, and copied it and then decided to field it.
filthywalrus 3 years ago
What u mean "our" OICW? It was made by the same ppl...
felex5000 3 years ago
no it's not
the OICW was developed by the US army while the XK11 is designed by Daewoo.
filthywalrus 3 years ago

lol. the OICW program was a drop in the DoD's enormous budget. The rifle itself was humongous and impractical.
