Had this AMAZING concert on Betamax, my machine is long dead so LOVE the post!! And this is one of their best songs. Danced to the 1988 remix at Mars Bar (Adelaides Gay club)
The 80's sure were The Greatest Musical Decade Ever ! Why can't we have Awesome Music Like this Now ? I wouldn't trade not being Part just truly Special it was. Take me Back to the 80's anytime.
@LucindaLC At last, some normal people. Never met another living soul who had a crush on TB, there was only me until I saw your comment. Actually, I'm thinking of recycling him for my daughter, because we have similar tastes and he could actually be an undead hottie really (talking Ian Somerhalder, NOT Robert Pattinson, ok?) Always wanted to know, is his foxtail real, or did he clip it on? Mine was real!
@MeleeStormbringer Evil fan for cutting off tail! Yes, I was really surprised to find out he married Alannah; I just don't see her as his type. Jealous, maybe?
Had a set of 3 picture disks shaped like their heads which all fitted together, then Joe got pot-burnt and I cried for at least a minute. Bummer. Allannah Currie was fit tho....
I recently bought the Box set of their CD's which have all been remastered and now include all their great b-sides, 12" etc. The new booklets now have so much stuff on the Twins - new pics, pics of the single's covers etc inside - they really brought back so many memories of a great band a great time in my life. The box set is just called BOX and is on Ebay and Amazon.
this band all ways play very good live its nice when you see a band live then buy the video knowing that you were at the gig and that never happens very often
well jcnvent I missed them at the Palace, so I am envious on that level however I saw them twice in L.A. once @ the Greek Theater and once @ the Hollywood Bowl, both large outdoor venues The visuals were only surpassed only by the music I am so glad I experienced them , live have the Babble cd's and oh so wish they would do something at this point in time can only imagine their level of creativity combined with today's technology
tom bailey you set the pace for other measly musicians...i wonder how phenomenal it must have been during the 80s...that was the golden age to a t!!!!tom was a downright hunk in my book!!
Tompson Twins, Wow what a band, totally loved them as anipper (still do). This song is classic TTs and the very thing that broke them in to the mainstream - i'm pretty sure that i was at this concert too.....and yep they were awesome too at a time when there was no seats to sit on in a concert and cameras were allowed to be used.....80's retro, don't you just love it!
Damn, I've been to over 300 concerts and seen most every band I'd like too but I never got a chance to see these guys and I wish I had. I was only 9 when they were really popular but I still loved the music. This performance is amazing and the crowd is nuts. Good stuff!
Great performance! I have this video tape along with Into The Gap Live and their video compilation. I wonder why this stuff hasn't been re-released on DVD......
Im pretty sure this was filmed at the Palace in Hollywood, if so I was there. The costume (hat), the all white staging, shadow box, etc all looked the same. The base player would stand inside (behind) the shadow box, and had some very cool moves indeed. Now that Im much older and a dad, it was good seeing how fun and clean these guys were. It was as fun as it gets. Thanks for posting. If you have more footage, please post em too.
when I first bought my minisatelite in my bedroom window from radio shack,to tune in on this concert from westwood one..this was in late 82 and very rainy it rained all the time..
I know the song was originally released in '82, but didn't the Thompson Twins also have a video for this song which included scenes from 'Ghostbusters?' Maybe I'm imagining things, but I think I recall the band playing atop a highrise; mirroring the final showdown between Gozer and the Ghostbusters in the film.
I miss the Twins so much ! They were a great band and had fun on stage and did amazing songs and videos. They were the compltete package and didn't care what anyone thought.
Yeah!!! this song can still get a party started! I just love how he opens the song "hey youuuu, i've seen your face before..." he was just sexy and the Thompson Twins are in my top 3 bands of the 80's!
Saw the "Twins" back in '87 at Jones Beach Theather on Long Island. Great show. So full of energy. The whole ampatheater was bouncing up and down. Awesome!
Twins 1`st hit-single. This song`s dance version went number one in U.S. dance chart. Just great band and styling too! Such a shame, that Alannah and Tom divorced:(
I saw the concert video actually on MTV back in 1983 when this came out. Considering the basslines were originally sequenced synthlines, I'm pretty impressed how tight the bassist actually is, given he's also playing a fretless.
Sounds like the intonation of the bass is off. They should have had an extra keyboard player playing doubling up the backup vocals too. Tough to live up to the CD version. I'm sure it sounded better in person though.
best concert i've ever been to...with berlin at the fair park band shell in 1985....the drummer from berlin broke my thumb with a stick. but i held out because i had to see them play into the gap live....after all, it was the 80's
I've been to 100's of concerts....and the Thompson Twins performance and energy has to still be one of my top best concerts of all time! Sadly, they're no longer together.
Thanks so much! I LOVE Thompson Twins. They were the first band I ever saw perform live (That I count anyway-technically it was Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, but I hated that gig-I was forced to go by my parents)
Thanks for posting the video --- it's a v. cool performance. It looks like the Thompson Twins were a cool band to see live...I know I would've wanted to see them back in the day, if I were alive then... Anyhoo, I still love the song!
Looks like Tom, Alannah, Joe and the audience were fed Mexican Jumping Beans before the show. They sure got their exercise in performing! Thanks for posting this live classic.
I remember dancing like that the few times I saw them in the early 80's. was amazing. pine knob in michigan! great times!
