This is what I call the '16-bit' style of music. It's chord driven. Funny thing is, I heard similar music on a video about an oscilloscope, and it was Yellow Magic Orchestra doing this '16-bit' kind of music in 1979! This type of music is older than you think. The sound of the 8 bit NES I heard on Tomita's Pictures at an Exhibition. On Legend of Mana I heard the 1980s Fairlight CMI sampler on The Missing Truth. So I guess game music lags behind about 10 years. Good song though.
