why do people play double bass w/ a bow. i think it sounds way better (and is easier to play) with standard plucking.

haha just a question, does the back of the double bass gets flatter as it grows older or is it just different for different basses?

It depends on the design. The basses with the sort of hump on the back has a "Swell" back. My bass is a flat back, built in Dresden in 1896.

I don't think it does, no. I think it's for decoration.
