Well, it's a quint, it's a combination of a pumper(engine) and a ladder. It's crappy because, it's half and half, you get the idea. So stuff like medical aids, well, this is the closest thing there is to a engine to respond. They won't need the ladder of course, but what can you do when all your engines are quints.
You must not be in the business..... There are several reasons, including but not limited to: carrying the equipment, loading the helpless patient, needing a driver for a critical patient where 1 medic needs help in the back, incase the patient goes into full arrest, etc.
St. Louis has 30 pumpers, well, QUINTS, 5 H&L's, 2 squads, and 13 medic units. The new chief is talking about changing it to 5 districts with a total of 5 QUINTS, 5 H&L's, and the rest will be regular pumpers....no ladders. Plus, he wants to add at least 6 much needed medic units. But we will probably only see maybe one more medic unit. But we really need to point the finger at the politicians. Not the Department or the Chief.
I could be wrong, but I heard the reason they went with the quints is so that they don't have to wait for a ladder truck to rescue someone who is higher up than manual ladders can reach.
And I think St Louis has 2 - 125 foot ladder trucks - we do have a number of high rise buildings downtown including the arch.
actually, the tallest hook and ladder trucks are at 105. but yeah, that's one of the reasons STLFD went with quints instead of your varying sorts of apparatus.
I think they are gone as well as the ones some departments in St Louis County had. They are junk. The only fire I ever saw it used on was a trash fire that our lazy guys didn't want to hand jack a line. I guess they have a place but I never saw it.
Quints were implemented in St.Louis because the department wanted to fuck the ranks by cutting staff. The city has zero money and can't scratch it's ass for a nickel so every dime is essential. Why they have a 125' foot ladder in that city befuddles me, they never use it. The St.Louis jew is in control there.
The idea of quints in STL were the idea of a the chief back in the early 80's to cut down on man power needed to do the job. By combinding the ladder and engine companies into one 4 man crew. Cheap bastards. LOL. And I just took the civil service exam for this department.
The Quints were delivered in '00 and '01. 75' is plenty for STL, there arent any buildings around here taller than that!! lol. But they do have 125' H&L's, those are some of the tallest in the nation.
2 fires?? what a joke can some one say transfer and why the hell does every st louis engine "pumper" i see have a ladder on it are they all quints cause i hate quints they suck with their stupid 75 ft dont reach ne thing ladder
Man, I really cannot understand why some departments call quints engines or pumpers. First look is you see a ladder, but yet its also an engine. When did things become so confusing! Haha.
Looked more like a ladder to me.

Does StL have IFEX equipment? I heard some time ago they had at least 6. Is there any use made of them? Thanks.

Something like that... I wonder what brand they are going to order next.

Quints are built that way to serve as a ladder and a pumper. The weight is evenly distributed.
