@ganymedeIV4 Didn't you notice the blue car stopping in the wrong lane at 0.58? The red Fiesta had to swerve to avoid it. Its driver presumably intended to stop beyond the crash and park out of the way, but the car overshooting gave him no choice but to swerve. He didn't make it through the closing gap. Very often in multi-car accidents more than one driver is at fault, but you're blaming the wrong guy here. The driver of the blue car wasn't paying enough attention.

I know that this comment is kinda late compared to those who have posted before, just after this vid was posted. I agree with gamefreak1000000 on his point. Put telephone lines on the side of the highway... parents and kids... just stop to use those or wait until you get home. I have a cell phone but the batteries are dead and I have no minutes on it. I don't mind not having it because it means I can keep my eyes on the road. Mind you, i have known other reasons for deaths on the highway.

My solution: Ban cell phones and make free public phone lines off road. Seriously, cell phones suck. Unless you're stupid , why would you look at your phone and text for more than a period of ten seconds , and then look for the person to send it to. You WOULD NOT. You would do it bit by bit and make sure you're driving correctly.
Your mind is distracted, your eyes will be off the road for too long without you realizing it, and too many people WOULD have their eyes off the road for that long!

That couple of seconds you're referring to? It was enough time for me to miss a curve on a highway and roll my car. This PSA is NOT "seriously flawed". Do you read your texts bit by bit while driving? You are going to be looking away from the road for more than a couple seconds to read your text.
This PSA is not a stretch by any means. I know people who don't watch the road AT ALL and take BOTH hands off the wheel to text.

She was not in the wrong lane at the start. Do you realize that not every country's driving laws are the same? As it said in the video, this was a PSA from the UK. They drive on the left, not on the right like North America.
By the way, I work at a hospital and see the results of way too many accidents like this. My area is relatively rural and a lot of accidents are caused by people who think it's okay to go 15, 20, 30 miles over the speed limit on curvy country roads. People who cause such accidents, if they survive, should be required to go public with their story.
Great video. It wouldn't have been a bad idea to also show the aftermath. As if living with what she'd done wasn't enough, the texting and driving teen would have likely also been charged with four counts of some form of manslaughter, or Britain's equivalent. Even if she was able to get a lenient sentence and didn't have to do much time in jail/juvenile hall, finishing school, spending time with friends, going to college and all the other teen rites of passage would have gone out the window.
We watched it in class today, the whole thing's about thirty minutes and it did show the aftermath. She ended up with seven years for Death by Dangerous Driving.
I watched this over two months ago and it scared the shit out of me. I seriously was not able to sleep for about a week after watching it. Along with that I am scared to death to be in a car now, and on top of that I'm haunted by this video everywhere I turn. It's not that you would, it's that you could. Car and Driver found that a texting driver wasn't much better than a drunk one. Plus as the ad suggested, it takes just one small, careless mistake for multiple people to die.
Watch that video again, they were driving wrong way. I mainly txt only in traffic where speed is like 3-5 mph or on open wide freeway where vehicle seperation is pretty big. As for talking on cell phone, i keep my eyes on the road at all times.
You don't get it, do you? That PSA is demonstrating that it takes one small distraction for several people to die. You might just be taking your eyes off the road for a minute as you always do, but that maybe the instant that you fail to notice that the car in front of you stopped suddenly.
That doesn't give you any excuse to not text while driving, and that "feature" doesn't seem real either. What if you were in another car that didn't have that "feature"? Also, you have to take in consideration of other irresponsible drivers who are texting. They can still crash into you if you yourself wasn't paying attention. Even if your car auto-slows down, that car won't.
A least YOU won't be the cause of the crash and responsible for killing people. YOU have to do your part as a responsible human being and try to reach as many people as possible on this issue, because you never know to how many people your word will trickle down to and may SAVE a life.
Okay, simple question in that case. What are you gonig to do about? Passing a law that says txting is illegal will not stop people from txt and driving. It will not stop people from talking on the cell and driving. You can pass another 1 million laws and it will not stop this behavior. The makers, on a very limited budget, only had one (donated) red Fiesta, and had to film the collision elswhere beforehand, so they had already wrecked it. If they had still had an intact one, they could have shown more detail of how it came to hit the Ka. As it is, it's quite clear to anyone more attentive than a texting teen that the blue car was coming at him unexpectedly on the wrong side. You could always be in a crash due to someone else's neglect. The less they know, the more they swear.
this is just another reason i do not own a cell phone. too many people here in southwest georgia text and drive or talk on their cell phones and drive, even worse in tallahassee florida. about 5 years ago, i almost creamed a new car because the idiot was on a cell phone, whipped over infront of me and stopped. my car weighs 2 tons and dont stop on a dime, that guy woulda been dead had i not been able to stop my car. there needs to be a nationwide ban on cell phones while driving.

4 girls in my town died from a head on collision while one of the girls was texting. She also killed the driver of the vehicle she hit. One of her passengers was a 16 year old mother of a 4 month old little boy. We have so many people grieving over this senseless tragedy. This girls son will never know his mother and the other kids were 13, 15 & 16 yrs old. Also, no one was wearing a seat belt! Do I think if they had seen this video in school it might have changed things? ABSOLUTELY!
if I had been the mother in the other car and seen my baby died in its car-seat I would have gotten out of the car or visited the driver in the hospital and shoot her in the head. My friend texts while driving and she is not allowed to drive with my kids in the car. I believe the driver who surived deserves the death penalty.

Actually they're both pretty much the same....DANGEROUS. And I'd think texting is worse just considering I'd people who put make up on, are a stop light so they don't mess up, but either way People shouldn't be doing either of them.
If they want the video to scare more teens, they should make it more realistic. When the 2nd car hits them, it's going like 30 miles per hour, a car can break in about 3 seconds or less at that speed. I'm surprised they didn't show an airplane flying into the car.

heres a simple tip if u need to text why not just hand someone ur phone in the car and they text for you :)
this law doesnt matter much to me anyway cause im from canada not u.s. and im getting a sidekick phone next year and im 16 but i gotta go to canada for my licence sadly...so basically this law is pointless to me unless i drive again....and im kinda scared to be in a car now cuz of all the (no offense to women out there) cuz of all the stupid teens specially girls texting while driving

By the way, I work at a hospital and see the results of way too many accidents like this. My area is relatively rural and a lot of accidents are caused by people who think it's okay to go 15, 20, 30 miles over the speed limit on curvy country roads. People who cause such accidents, if they survive, should be required to go public with their story.

Great video. It wouldn't have been a bad idea to also show the aftermath. As if living with what she'd done wasn't enough, the texting and driving teen would have likely also been charged with four counts of some form of manslaughter, or Britain's equivalent. Even if she was able to get a lenient sentence and didn't have to do much time in jail/juvenile hall, finishing school, spending time with friends, going to college and all the other teen rites of passage would have gone out the window.

I watched this over two months ago and it scared the shit out of me. I seriously was not able to sleep for about a week after watching it. Along with that I am scared to death to be in a car now, and on top of that I'm haunted by this video everywhere I turn. It definitely put it's point across for me, and I don't really think I ever want to drive now.

It's not that you would, it's that you could. Car and Driver found that a texting driver wasn't much better than a drunk one. Plus as the ad suggested, it takes just one small, careless mistake for multiple people to die.

Watch that video again, they were driving wrong way. I mainly txt only in traffic where speed is like 3-5 mph or on open wide freeway where vehicle seperation is pretty big. As for talking on cell phone, i keep my eyes on the road at all times.

You don't get it, do you? That PSA is demonstrating that it takes one small distraction for several people to die. You might just be taking your eyes off the road for a minute as you always do, but that maybe the instant that you fail to notice that the car in front of you stopped suddenly.

That doesn't give you any excuse to not text while driving, and that "feature" doesn't seem real either. What if you were in another car that didn't have that "feature"? Also, you have to take in consideration of other irresponsible drivers who are texting. They can still crash into you if you yourself wasn't paying attention. Even if your car auto-slows down, that car won't.

Okay, simple question in that case. What are you gonig to do about? Passing a law that says txting is illegal will not stop people from txt and driving. It will not stop people from talking on the cell and driving. You can pass another 1 million laws and it will not stop this behavior. Like or not, people will do those thing while driving and there is nothing you can do about it. You exaggerate ridiculously, and your filthy language shows you for what you are. The last car did not "come out of nowhere". The driver was following the girls and swerved to avoid the blue car (stopping at 3:42) that had overshot the crash and was coming straight at him. He had nowhere to go.

The makers, on a very limited budget, only had one (donated) red Fiesta, and had to film the collision elswhere beforehand, so they had already wrecked it. If they had still had an intact one, they could have shown more detail of how it came to hit the Ka. As it is, it's quite clear to anyone more attentive than a texting teen that the blue car was coming at him unexpectedly on the wrong side. You could always be in a crash due to someone else's neglect. The less they know, the more they swear.

this is just another reason i do not own a cell phone. too many people here in southwest georgia text and drive or talk on their cell phones and drive, even worse in tallahassee florida. about 5 years ago, i almost creamed a new car because the idiot was on a cell phone, whipped over infront of me and stopped. my car weighs 2 tons and dont stop on a dime, that guy woulda been dead had i not been able to stop my car. there needs to be a nationwide ban on cell phones while driving.

4 girls in my town died from a head on collision while one of the girls was texting. She also killed the driver of the vehicle she hit. One of her passengers was a 16 year old mother of a 4 month old little boy. We have so many people grieving over this senseless tragedy. This girls son will never know his mother and the other kids were 13, 15 & 16 yrs old. Also, no one was wearing a seat belt! Do I think if they had seen this video in school it might have changed things? ABSOLUTELY!

if I had been the mother in the other car and seen my baby died in its car-seat I would have gotten out of the car or visited the driver in the hospital and shoot her in the head. My friend texts while driving and she is not allowed to drive with my kids in the car. I believe the driver who surived deserves the death penalty.

If they want the video to scare more teens, they should make it more realistic. When the 2nd car hits them, it's going like 30 miles per hour, a car can break in about 3 seconds or less at that speed. I'm surprised they didn't show an airplane flying into the car.
