  • Ozzy sounds remarkably good for a guy who was supposedly out his head all the time. I think side 1 of Never Say Die is excellent, you can't argue with Johnny Blade or Junior's Eyes. The title track isn't bad either. Things start to slide on side 2, Shockwave has a great opening riff but the song as a whole is disjointed. Things go rapidly downhill from there.

  • What happens at 0.09-0.10...it speeds up?

  • i remember having the black sabbath story video tape for my 8'th birthday in 95 and this song was at the credits, and it's only now i'm coming across it and actually giving never say die a chance, this song is class

  • BLACK SABBATH 2012 2013

  • my favorite song of never say die sounds great here live

  • Shock!

  • sabbath forever the boys rock hard....!!!!!

  • Bill Ward just sounds better live... I guess the recording engineers could have have beefed up his sound

  • Brilliant band, awesome song, groovy played - thanks a lot for posting.....

  • OZZY!!!!!!!

  • Way heavier than the album. This is great. Great post! Thanks, Blacksabfan

  • good song

  • I saw them three nights later in Albuquerque, the last show on the tour, the last show before they broke up. We made a giant cross out of cardboard covered with aluminum foil and threw it on stage. Geezer picked it up and was flashing it around at the crowd. Good times, good times...

  • Far heavier without the post-production extras on the studio album. CRANK IT!!!!!

  • Never Say Die is a great album of Sabbath. I wonder if there is a live recording of Johnny Blade.

  • @ GRILLBUOY101

OMG! I saw that same Don Kirschner Rock concert show that BS played Never Say Die on too!! I must have been 9 years old at the time and if remember correctly it was like after 1am because D. Kirschner came on after Saturday Night Live on NBC in New York back then. What a great memory!!!...

  • Fresno 1976 and 78 are definitely not soundboard recordings. They are EX quality audience recordings. Trust me. I have them from close to the taper.

  • HOLY CRAP!

    it's the origanal lyrics!

  • Never Say Die is a tremendously underrated album. The whole album is great and truly unique.

Air Dance is one of the most hated tracks, but I think it is a great showcase of what Sabbath is capable of. Other than the usual "Evil and dark" stuff of course.

  • @BlackSabbath1776 Yeah, and 'Over to You'!

  • Bitchen live recording! ....Ozzy's singing well, and all in all they were sounding pretty good if you ask me. I'm one of those who really liked Never Say Die, so it's way cool to get to hear stuff from that album done live.

    Thanx for sharing this :)

  • unfortunately ozzy sounds beat on this rarely played live track, NSD was a great album undoubtedly

  • ho yeah!! great song i think

  • note the blizzaed of oz t shirt

  • BLACK SABBATH RULES!!!

  • This is the second to last show Ozzy did with Black Sabbath.

  • I love that song nothing more from 0:41 till 1:35 is the best part of the song ( shock waves )--(Black sabbath) and the sound of the guitar of TONY and the voice of Ozzy's voice and also the bass and drums bill geezer is encerio

  • Bill Ward looks like Ozzy Osbourne's ugly twin after too many doughnuts and pints of brown ale. Much like Ron and Reg Kray.

  • Some say Never Say Die is failure but I disagree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe this song is one of the best Sabbath made.

  • Shock Wave! Black Sabbath (even in the 1978 period) was still heavy. They put a lot of other "heavy" bands to shame!

  • I hallucinated to this when I was young I thought an A-bomb was exploding behind me The lyric" Look behind you" was a terrifying thing to me at that moment! alllllrightttttttnnnnooowwwwwww!!!!!!!

  • its hard to believe it, but even though sabbath were going through bad times, Ozzy was actually in top form here! so was the rest of the group, they all showed their skills.

  • Wow, the live version has so much more power than the studio one. NSD should have been recorded raw like this, not so overproduced and EQed.

  • blacksabfan...... Thank you.

  • To all of you that say that Ozzy can't sing - This is live for Pete's sake and with lots of leaps in the vocal line.

  • one of my 10 favorite songs

  • LOVE live Sabbath. Thanks

  • "blacksabfan" is incorrect when he states that there are only 2 SB recordings from the 1970 to 1978 era of Black Sabbath. Actually there is a 3rd SB recording and that's from Fresno Sept. 22nd in Fresno at The Selland Arena. The sound quality is phenomenal. It's released as a ROIO import that's a 2 disc set.

  • No, I'm not incorrect. That's an EX quality AUD recording. I would know since I own it.

  • In fact, here's the information from the source:

Notes: This is one of the nicer recordings from the NEVER SAY DIE tour. In fact, the clarity of this tape is so good that many have mistaken it as a soundboard!

Carl wrote in with the following comment: "By the way, I'm unsure if you note this on your site, but Selland Arena '78 is also an audience tape. It was recorded with a Nakamichi CM-300 microphones and I believe a cassette recorder..."

  • @MrBigwanker the fresno show actually was a really good fan recording.

  • Ozzy never should have re-joined the band in 1978. They had a much better vocalist with Dave Walker who they performed "Juniors Eyes" with on the BBC TV in the UK in January of 1978. Too bad he was only a temporary replacement. Ozzy can't even remember the name of the Shockwave song!

  • technical ecstasy had about 4 god songs on it,it wasn't that bad-you have to remember that tehy were al on drugs bad at the time

  • \m/ all Sabbath is all good \m/

  • Good job for posting this song! I saw the NSD Tour on Dec 2 1978, indoors at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. I was only 14 years old at the time and nearly got trampled once the doors opened for the G.A. concert. This was less than a year before the tragic Riverfront Stampede.

  • shockwaves? lol...

  • I have to disagree with mr. crowbar, "techniccal exctasy" is the worst sabbath album with ozzy. Perhaps my opinion is unfavorable amongst some sab fans, but to musicans and especially in terms of composition, "NEVER SAY DIE", or NSD is superior. hmmm, never tried NSD! L.O.L.

  • @TheArbiter74 Very true.I absolutely agree that Technical Ecstacy is the worst but i still love it.

  • ozzy vocals are really good here.

  • NSD is the Ozzy-era Sabbath worst album. But even that has some great tunes (Juniors Eyes, Swinging The Chain, Never Say Die, Hard Road)

  • all albuns os ozzy's era was, are, and will be are fuckin' great dudes!!!!!

  • Woah,Another Rare Tune Live,I Love "Never Say Day",.A Great Epic Through Both sides,Although Not A concept Album,"Juniors Eyes" & "Hard Road"Are Masterpeices,Every Track is Justified for The Timing!!!

  • Wow, I never heard this live, Ozz sounds great.

  • Who wasn't f'cked in this period of time? Still great music.

  • I would love to see sabbath with ozz again, or back in the 70's. This is probably the only good track off of never say die. You can tell they are so fucked up on that album.

  • Are you kidding me? Johnny Blade isnt good? Or Junior's Eyes (awesome base line)...

  • @ej0002 or Air Dance

  • @ej0002

They are kinda cliche and trite. Musically, I like 'em, however the content wasn't that great.

  • FUCKING KICK ARSE !!!!!! \M/

  • FUCKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw Black Sabbath in 1978 too. Sammy Hagar open up the concert with his Red album and then Van Halen come on Stage, this was their first national tour and Boston closed the show. Full Night of rock and roll. All the bands played so loud.

  • wow i love the studio version of this i think its iommis sound i like the most about it.i love the whole cd too.

  • man. I can't remember the last time I heard this song. where did you get this version from?

  • I saw Sabbath on this tour and was lucky enough to meet Tony and Geezer......pretty wild for a teenager to meet his rock idols!!! Both of them were great and talked to us for like 15 minutes each. The concert was incredible with the with the band in top form!!!

  • People say that Ozzy was completely fucked up around this time but he's in fine form here.

  • AWESOME!!

  • all i can say is wow

  • The entire song is filled with awsome riffs, but the outro riff combined with Iommi's tone, man, that is something out of this world!

  • We are kinda like the fremen of dune, us redneck sabbath fans. we exist in vast, vast numbers.... five in the audience, thats funny. Sabbath fkn rules ! Yeah!!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this - I never hear a live version of this one before. Two thumbs up!

  • Thanks for posting.

Never Say Die doesn't get much play time compared to most of the other Sab albums, but this song (and this version) are definitely gems.

  • this sounds better live for some reason.

  • I agree! Wish they had under-produced the never say die album, instead of over producing it. Because for example, this live version sounds way way better then the studio version.

  • Sbath in ABILENE??? How many people were in the audience, five?

  • I just downloaded a bootleg version of this show that had cover art and assuming the picture is of the same show (which I think it is) it looks like a nice little gig, maybe a few thousand people. I looks like it was played in a theater because there's not much of a stage and the backdrop is right up close. Pretty cool looking actually.

  • Yeah it does sound cool.

Just said that cuz I'm from Texas, and I've been to Abilene and I think at this point the population isn't much more than 2,000.

  • @drquesadilla people didn't appreciate sabbath alot,back then

  • he changed some of the lyrics. does it a bit, always goos alternations.

  • Of note in this picture is Ozzy wearing a shirt that says Blizzard Of Oz. Seen this pic before but never looked that closely until listening to this great clip

  • Ozzy changed the lyrics here?

  • some of them

  • there is Sabbath and there is nothing!

  • Another underrated song from the end of Ozzy-era Sabbath...

  • Damn I wish they let they solo groove a bit longer shit was amazing.

  • This takes me back to summer of '89. I just graduated high school and I played this tape all the time while I was living at Myrtle Beach. Lot of memories tied to this. This is an awesome recording too. Thanks for posting.

  • Ozzy sounds great. They all do.

  • 5 stars. Thanx for uploading.

  • this is crazy. I thought abilene was a dead town... still is...

  • I don't know why people never liked these albums, I certainly do. Do you have Juniors eyes?

  • now I like this song. its one of my favorites on never say die. but my fav. song on never say die is juniors eyes. and I know for sure they played it I think once on the never say die tour. now that would be awesome to hear that song live. anyone have it by some chance?

  • For sure they played Junior's Eyes live? (Not counting the time with Dave Walker) I don't think you're right, but I'd love to be proven wrong. ;)

  • @blacksabfan Lovely to find a comment where you arent being a total dick

  • @ShelleyTheVampire

Maybe I'm just a dick to you because you're an idiot. Just like I'm a dick to the other fucking idiots that frequent my page. If you're not an idiot, then I'm probably not being a dick. It's a positive correlation. The more stupid you are, the more of a dick I am. There's your math lesson for today, junior.

  • @jakemann2000 hey i agree jakeman. the negver say diesabbath album is epic even though the stoners mack it cause its not the heagvily sedated shit from volume 4 you know?? like hand of doom or wheels of confusion . i was 11 when it came out and remeber 1 fridat night we watche don kirschners rock concert tv show and sabbath played never say die live. it was crazy good and i was so pumped for it i think i didnt sleep that night!!lol yeah juniors eyes is so cool and tony is a genius on it!!

  • Whoa! I'm very pleased to hear this live version! And as always, I'm very impressed with the fucked up bass lines Geezer comes up with...

  • Great!

  • Great recording

  • Hell yeaz! i love this song!

  • I think I prefer the lyrics in this version compared to the album version.

  • where can u download all this sabbath stuff?

  • nice

  • Bill Ward is such a great drummer, he should have replaced Ozzy on vocals after they(sadly) fired Ozzy.

  • AGREED!

  • Actually there is at least one more SB recording of original Sabbath, and it's Pittsburgh 76.

  • Pittsburgh 76 is an FM. Not a SB. Sabbath didn't have many FM's though either until the 80s, so it's still quite significant.

  • ah, sorry, I downloaded that bootleg from deep purple hub and there was written that it's SB recording

  • No biggie. A lot of FM's and SB's sound similar.

  • and where's this page?

  • Fuckin' brilliant. The end may have been near but they were still cooking. BILL, TONY, OZZY, GEEZER... WE LOVE YOU AALLLLL!!!

    XXX

  • I want that Pre-Rhoads Blizzard of Oz shirt!!! Bill Ward owns this song.

  • Thanks for the post, great tune!

  • anyone know any places to rare versions of sabbath songs besides gay limewire to put on my Black Sabbath tribute playlist on itunes, as of right now i have all songs from Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage, Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die all because i purchased the black box, and soon i will have Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Live Evil and Dehumanizer, i just want access to demo's, live tracks, covers from sabbath

  • Hey, do you have a website or anything with mp3 versions of these songs? I can't find half of them anywhere.

  • hey the pic of sabbath was taken 77/78 look at ozzys homemade t shirt BLIZZARD OF OZZ ---the writing was on the wall

  • Yep. There was a method to my madness when it came to choosing what pic I used.

  • ozzy messed up the verses again

  • Ozzy, as well as the whole band, sound very

charged up on this tune. I don't hear any tension. Seems like they are really enjoying

    this.

  • I had no idea a live version of this song existed. So many of the boots I've seen appear to have the usual suspects. This is extremely cool! Weird hearing slightly different lyrics.

  • ShockwaveSSSS !

Damn I forgot just how hard that song jams.

PS. I think him adding the 'S' on the end of the song's name is, in some way, a stab at and a good indication of.. his respect for Sabbath and their song writing capabilities at that time. (Certainly he knew he wouldn't be in the band much longer)

  • he says shockwaves in the fresno show 2

  • Yeah, and he does at other times as well. The song is called "Shockwave" though.

  • wow. AMAZING!

  • this is great ..a rare over looked blip in Sabbath's illustrious history. and they nail it to boot..

  • That's bloody good quality there. Never knew they did this song live, I get the vibe that most people find it filler-y. I think it's a classic.

  • Can you imagine being at this show with early VH warming up?!!!

  • The end of the song is great

  • last time I heard this live was on the 3 concerts I got to see in UK in 1978. great to hear again and thanks for posting

  • I have heard the version from the boot "one for the nose" but not this one. Believe it or not that version has better sound quality.

You have some great stuff and keep it coming!!

  • I'd agree. Fresno '78 is better, but it is also an audience recording (which are common). This is a soundboard...of which Sabbath has very few recordings from, especially from the Ozzy years. This isn't the best soundboard I've ever heard, but the performance is pretty good.

  • Super version of this song,I love Sabbath(with Ozzy) in every manner!!

  • Excellent find! 5*`s

  • great stuff!

  • Heh Heh Shockwaves...

At least I can hear a bit more from this snippet then the CA one. But both are still good.
