  • i remember this very well. I wasn't at the air show however. I did get to spend the next 3 days, 12 hrs. a day performing "special" inspections because they stalled the wings. Looks cool, but it's not good for the plane.

  • Holy sh*t, my blood sugar level dropped just by looking at this. Absolutely stunning and.... and plain crazy!

  • holy cow!!

  • Chuck Norris can do this with his KC-10.. but with full tanks.

.. and one engine off :D

  • That's a future Fedex pilot.

  • That is absolutely insane! I had no idea the Extender was capable of such maneuvers. Just fantastic.

  • I have seen this in person at March AFB (CA) & its is sooo impressive top see something so big climbing out so steeply is awesome!

  • We did this in Klamath Falls Oregon back in 93' I think and tore the aft fuel tank loose...spent weeks on the alert pad doing fuel cell repairs.

  • I have still pics of it...I was there, stationed in the 344th ARS...too bad there's no footage of the landing...they flamed out number two after doing the max braking full stop. :0) I believe on this particular takeoff they passed 60 degrees nose high...and got the stick-shaker "stall warning"...people never realized how close they came to seeing a KC-10 crash. Both of the pilots (squadron commanders) were in the OG//CC office the next work day. LOL

  • I just noticed.. he took off with NO Flaps! once leveled out he lowered his flaps... That was an extremely fast take off.

  • Bullets.. thats what they are. David Tribo must have been the A/C on that Aircraft..lol

  • That was Nucking Futz...LOL...

  • Thought he was gonna stall!!!!

  • Holy... fuck.

  • invisible jato

  • Likely only had a minimum fuel load when it did this.

  • @spacelawanalysis That's what "285000 pound" means vice "590000 pound" -- or maybe more, if necessary...

  • @spacelawanalysis

Ive done it with 80,000lbs of fuel on board...which is not Minimal by no means....and with almost 155,000lbs of thrust... they can do it.. believe me! Pegging the 8,000'/min mark is not uncommon. Do a FL 200 to get airspeed up to around 250 knots, you can go vertical to 10'000 in what seems a blink of an eye.

  • Wow... Thats aweome!

  • Se me saldria toda la mierda con un take off así...

  • On the high speed we accelerated to 350kts, pulled it back gently (key word) to a 68 degree deck angle. Leveled off at 10k, and the slowest we got was around 170kts. I know there is more video floating around. I have never seen anything and I asked D. Stork for a copy years ago but he never gave me anything. There was a Safety Investigation after this airshow, I think the results were... "Don't do that again".

  • @dutch747200 Wow, that's increadible!....now I understand why you liked the flyby more than the takeoff. Well, like I said, the takeoff is increadible and it's gone viral around Travis among the KC-10 people...But, If you ever find and post the flyby, we may just drop our flightsuits and masturbate to it like wild monkeys right here in the squadron! Thanks for the first-hand info and please, get that flyby video from Stork!!

  • @Agentmulli If this impresses you,( and it is Impressive ) You should have witnessed many of the T/Os performed by the C-141A Starlifter in Vietnam in an effort to get up & away from sniper fire at the end of the runway. MOST UN-Indoctrinated People really have NO Understanding or clue just how much raw-horsepower those Mills churn out. If you have ever heard the expression,"Climbing like a homesick-Angel?" It originated from C-141s going damn near vertical over the threshold.

  • That was a Seymour Jet long before the airplanes were moved to Travis and McGuire. I always wondered if this video would surface. I was the Flight Engineer on that flight. Stork was the PF and Ballard the PNF. We only weighed 280K - max power rotated at 205kts (max tire speed). 57 degree deck angle was achieved and the slowest the airplane got was 110kts. To me the most impressive was the high speed flyby we did after the takeoff... Wonder why that part was not shown?? Thanks poster!

  • @dutch747200 This video has gone viral at Travis in the past 2 weeks....we only do this stuff in the SIM if we have a little extra time...amazing! It's hard to believe the hi-speed flyby could be more impressive. Btw, what altitude did you level out at? It looks like you made 5000ft in 30 seconds!!

  • used to do these with 50.0 fuel load. you had to be in the boom pod to get the full effect.

  • holy shit :o that was crazy

  • Good demonstration of the Bagram takeoff. Effective way of getting above effective small arms range rapidly.

  • @tzebra It is commonly referred to as a "Maximum Performance T/O" amongst USAF Crewmembers.

  • @ancientastronomer I've seen other planes do it, and even rode a 130 which did something similar (or felt like it from where I was sitting,) but never seen a heavy do it like that before. Great maneuver for getting above it quickly.

  • I know MD-11 had steep take off, but I was not sure DC-10s could do that, well I know now.

  • I wonder how much fuel that puppy burns in the first minute it leaves the ground.

  • That Plane has a bad attitude

  • that amazed me...

  • Its god fault!

  • surely that wasn't planned. It looked very dangerous and very stupid.

  • @cupmyplums of course it was. if it looks new and different, it must be dangerous and stupid.

i'm sure the aircraft isn't doing anything it wasn't designed to do

  • If you watch the "real time" video it almost looks like fast forward while the "slow motion" one looks more normal. I'd be willing to be they delayed rotation up to the tire placard speed.

  • Extremely impressive...but also extremely dangerous. I highly doubt this was an approved maneuver. I wouldn't be so concerned about stalling as I would be about flaming out the engines.

  • @oisiaa They kept the aircraft on the ground until nearing the tire limit speed. They weren't near any airspeed to which the engines would have stalled.

  • @dc1030guy I meant flaming out the engines due to the fuel boost pumps not being able to pump fuel with such an extreme climb angle.

  • @oisiaa

I'm willing to bet the body tanks were always full of fuel so the pumps in those tanks were always submerged.

  • HOLY CRAP! Was that a McGuire or Travis jet? Definitely had to be stripped empty. There is another one on youtube about a DC-10 airshow in the Netherlands. Same thing. Insane! I couldn't be on that crew. I'd crap my pants.

  • Holy shit that plane must be EMPTY

  • That is amazing. Would've thought it would have stalled way before that. Nice video.

  • Stupid, very, very stupid! That's when ego and genital envy gets in the way of good airmanship, and why the C17 crashed not so long ago.

  • @pulpopelirojo Ah, do realize where the C-17 was at though. That had a lot to do with it. And bad SA.

  • Idiots! They are lucky they didn't stall the aircraft.

Planes that size are not meant to be flown that way!

  • IM SURE I SAW ONE OF THESE TAKE OFF BEFORE...BUT NEVER LIKE THIS...

  • Holy Sht!

  • Wow! did that pilot fly the SR71 before he flew The KC10 LOL!

    Amazing takeoff.
