@19ididyourmom I don't know if it's offensive, but you sound more educated if you call them inuits as opposed to eskimos. When you say that you just end up looking like a dumbass hick. :)
@jonathanh040 it is hard. Caribou have greater senses of hearing and possibly sight, and they can run faster. Plus there isn't camouflage for the hunter. Also, did you not just hear the end? They're trying to keep their tradition alive, they are trying to keep to the old ways.
lol...vid is sick but the spear fishing shit is a joke...they cudnt catch a fish so they jus stuck a dead one on the spear n made it look like it was caught....or it died in like 2 seconds, or had a heart attack or some shit like tht that may have caused instant death
@id493337 sir look at how the spear is made. once the fish gets touched by it, it lodges into the fish. ray mears shows many ways how people caught their food. that fish ant dead and that wasent fake. because iv done it before when my family went alaska. id rather beleave what i just saw then try to understand your reason of how he really caught the fish. "your a shit joke"
@leparditas It may seem wierd to you, but some people, including me, love extremely hot or cold, desolate places to live. Its better than having to share a city with a few million other assholes who dont know how to take care of themselves.
Then I'll sink my jigger, my jigger under the ice, my jigger starts crawling under the ice, he'll be listening for the jigger crawling under the ice. LMAO
30-40 fish, good to know you dont have a limit like everyone else. even if your an eskimo indian what ever you wanna call it trying to survive, you can still over fish a lake.
@Dirka13 yeah but you have to consider the size of those lakes, and if there is only a small group of people taking what they need, the lake's fish populations will be fine. Plus they have other sources of food as well. They have lived there for thousands of years, you don't think they have learned how to sustain their resources?
The jigger floats upside-down right under the ice, pulling the rope moves the jigger forward as shown, then the weight of the metal rod makes it drop (the fisherman says that) to a perpendicular position ready to repeat the processe.
@o0Loucypher0o put your index finger and your thumb in a ^ shape on your table, now bring them together, move your index finger forward, move the thumb to the finger, and repeat. thats basically how its done
survival for us , maybe ! Its the normal everyday life for those people... what if they´d come to live some time in our "world" ? i guess that ´d be real survival for them ;o)
I think survival skills should be taught to all people who will go into the wilderness, or who live in/near a wilderness area.
I mean, technology is great yes, but technology can fail. Then what? Your a bit stuck then. These skills are pretty universal. Especially lighting fires and cooking. Pretty universal no matter what the terrain.
Also, i feel that these sorts of things give you an appreciation for the world around you. At least, i feel that it has given me more of an appreciation.
I definately think that for countries with indigenous people, such as Australia or the Americas, it should be part of the educational system to learn about the cultures before europeans. We do it breifly in high school in Aus, but in New Zealand they learn maori songs, war cries and languages right along side the national anthem.
Definately fascinating cultures and alot to learn from them.
Damn straight, when all else fails which it does, it is survival skills along with instinct that will allow one to survive. Arctic survival is one of the many skills I would love to learn.
On the face of it yes. But I think some of the more aware people are starting to see that maybe it is just not sustainable. certainly not in the way we approach it now. I would like to see a fusion of old and new skool - taking the best bits of technology but at the same time not butt fucking the planet!
if you think of it. im young and i think low tech survival is a must to learn in an area like this. If they were cut off of any support/higher tech and had to live it out whether it be a week or a year it would be wise to learn survival skills. even if you may not need them anytime soon but to pass it on encase you kids or grandkids need them in the future.
