  • wat is the pattern, space, composition in this video??

  • Is there a sequel? Love to view another journey into the unknown w/ Jasper Morello. Very Amazing. Very Great.....well done......super imagination in all aspects..

  • What program was this made in?

  • @TheNautilusCharmer it was made by a professional dude i think, anthony lucas

  • i dont geddit :(

  • Beautiful, I remember watching this when I was about 8 or 9. I remembered nearly everything about this film. It inspired me to start drwing strng things. It is still one of my all time favourite short films.

  • We're in the prescence of genius. Goof? after taking over the "ghost ship" and losing the compass, they still manage to a) navigate by dead reckoning and b) steer 255. I know, I should get a life.

  • 131 peoples doesn't have the curiosity of a explorer!

  • This, ladies and gentlemen, is the shizzle.

  • Simply....GENIUS!!!

  • This was truly amazing, what a brilliant story and beautiful animation! Loved it. <3

  • Magical...Please make more of this. Express the hopes of a planet under pressure.

  • this idea need to be made into a feature film!!!!

  • OMG---AMAZING

  • first time i watched this, my mind was blown.

second time i watched this, o damn that was AMAZING

  • I vaguely remember seeing this as a kid, those blood sucking creature scared the hell out of me. But thanks to nostalgia and learning about steampunk art I was brought back here and can't wait to watch it!

  • Hm....looks like a predecessor of Limbo :)

  • Revolvingocelot made me watch this and i loved it! wish there was more length to it cuz i really enjoyed it!

  • i read the description after i saw the animation and that was quite different from what i understood.

  • @f5yeangel5 Well to answer your question, this whole animated film is divided into 4 parts. What we have here is the first part, there are 3 others:

-Jasper Morello and the Return of Claude Belgon, thats the second voyage.

-Jasper Morello and the Ghosts of Alto Mea, thats the third voyage.

-Jasper Morello and the Ebenezer of Gothia, in a Feature Presentation, the fourth voyage.

What i think is that we have the general description of 4 parts. So theres that.

  • @SilentShotV But the other parts weren't produced were they?

  • @sqccccccccc I believe there is a DVD available, although i am not sure how many parts are there, but it's only logical that a DVD would include 4 parts, or else it would look comical with a 20 min segment. So i think this first part was released to us for free perhaps as an advertisement.

  • @SilentShotV Actually they don't they have commentary, a making of, shorts and that's all.

  • @SilentShotV I had the confirmation of the director that SBS put his project on hold despites praises.

  • @sqccccccccc Hm interesting, so it has been on hold for 6 years now? That is depressing, i would like to see the full story.

  • @SilentShotV For SBS it is nothing; scacley a full season. Perhaps if we complained...

  • In school we had an assignment to make an 'artistic' movie poster and they told us to make Spider Man, Forest Gump or Fast And Furious, because everyone seen those. Bitch please. I done 2 posters for this one and got an Ace anyways

  • OMG this is so LUSH like this so much amazing more please more!

  • @northey420 I would say that it is more goth influenced than emo.

  • Oh.. my.. gosh... Steampunk animation is freakin' awesome! We just finished our post-apocalyptic short film trilogy. Check it out at youtube.com / swinemovie

  • An amazing short film. The best Steampunk video I have ever seen.

:trololo: ^_^`

  • I found this video when I asked someone what "steampunk" was and she said this was as best a description of it as she could give me. Beautiful :)

  • That was amazing, I love steampunk.

  • I like the art style, very unique, as i've never watched something in steam punk style before. You can sense the emo influence but it is much smarter and less related to self hatred, though it does all have to do with death still. One thing I have to say as an engineer, is that the ridiculously over done and useless gears and machinery are kind of stupid. It looks all complicated and I think it tries to make it look more sophisticated and smart to the less educated and sensible people

  • @northey420 Useless gears and machinery is part of the Steampunk art imo. Might aswell complain about how his craft generates lift.

  • This had really good atmosphere when I first watched it, and it still does, but it gives the feeling that the world should be explored. I do wish that jasper wasn't so thick, it's kind of off-putting. still awesome though.

  • Jasper's Accomplishments:

    1. Manslaughter due to gross negligence/poor navigating

    2. Reckless endangerment of lives, as well as mass property damages culminating in the loss of an entire airship due to poor navigating

    3. Further collision damages inflicted upon Hieronymus due to poor navigating

    4. Discovered primordial island of the lost...due to poor navigating

    5. Murdered a scientist in good standing with the Academy through intentionally poor navigating.

Not sure that 'great host' amidst

  • @Gasfiend Add to that: attempted mutiny.

  • @Gasfiend I think you're being overly harsh on the poor guy. His navigation wasn't poor, the Hieronymous had no lights running so he navigated them into a place that ought to have been clear. Moreover, it wasn't poor navigating that got him to the isle, if anything, it was a testament to his skill since he had no compass.

  • *yawn*

  • Uhh.... I think you mixed up the description of this video with the description of the sequel...

  • @TheNautilusCharmer what is the name of the sequel?

  • @111nimi

It's called The Return of Claude Belgon. It's mentioned on the Jasper Morello site, but I can't find it anywhere else.

  • @TheNautilusCharmer You think it'll ever be released?

  • this just takes my breath away, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

  • The most amazing thing ever

  • MASTERPIECE

  • Thumbs up if you are here because of The Steampunk Bible! :)

(And because this video and steampunk are awesome, and you hope they'll make the sequels!)

  • @Animetalchick

he's old and chances are, he won't be able to detain any of the other crewmen without the help of chemicals.

plus, it fits the image of being a "doctor".

  • Day[J]!

  • You know, as impressive as this is, I think it might be much more inspiring if it weren't in silhouette.

  • @steffen19k

I disagree, the monster wouldn't be as creepy or mystifying if it weren't a silhouette, and the details on the characters would take away from the beauty of the scenery.

As nice as it would be to see what the characters look like, I don't think it would make the film any better.

  • This is so incredibly great! I really love this "movie". Is there anyone knowing more films like this one?

  • Tim Burton/Steampunk is so right!

  • wow

  • So Steampunk. So amazing!

  • simply, and never once simple, adorable and inspiringly g e n i o u s....!

    bravo!!

  • Simply brilliant! :)

  • i must have watched this at least 6 times and i keep coming back so good!

  • Does anyone else think that Mr. Kim (2:53) looks like Freddy Krueger?

  • This is the BEST Steampunk story EVER made. I dare ANYONE to find me a better Steampunk movie or story.

  • Fantastic.

  • чо захуйня?

  • Amazing animation and fantastic story. The movie (for it is worthy of that title) left me speechless and utterly impressed. It is something I will enjoy seeing again and again. I would like to say "thank you" to the production team.

    @BIGTRBLINLILPODCAST LMFAO!! XD

  • I wish when they did Steampunk in films its more like THIS! Freaking perfect, Love the animation style!

  • That was amazing, it wqas short but one of the best, movies i have ever seen, there are no words to discribe how...amazing that was

  • Should have sent a poet.....

  • I am beyond words.

  • YES I saw this in college years ago...been looking for it. Finally found it. Love it!

  • Day[9] made me do it.

And I loved evfery second of The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello!

  • ahh, I wish there was a part 2. i have been looking for this video ever since it was featured. I have finally found it I love it <3

  • Breathtaking! Never gave I seen a more wondrously crafted piece. A standing ovation.

  • When the second voyage commig?

  • Comment removed

  • this was beautiful...i wish they made more full-length movies like this =]

  • I remember watching this on TV when it first came out, it still amazes me to this day.

  • ABSOLUTLY AWESOME......Given me so many ideas for steampunk models.

  • Wow I seriously had to watch it twice because the first time I wasn't paying attention to the story because I was looking my eyes out by all the details and beauty of the animations <3

  • trippy

  • Does anyone know where I can find the next 3 voyages? Video, torrent, online, whatever. Anyone?

  • @iamsrsbsns They haven't been made yet, I don't think.

  • @TheMakoknight Ugh, that suuuuuucks. Do you know if they ever will be made? It's been like, 6 years since this one.

  • I like the photorealism of those skulls.

  • Someone from /co/ make this?

  • Didn't Amelia die already...? O_o

  • @gigirox18 No, that was just Morello's nightmare. But she needs help fast...

  • Does anyone know where to find the sequels??? There are three sequels I've heard of, four total. However, I have been unable to find any torrents, videos or such for it. I would gladly by the boxed set if i only lived in Australia. Where can they be found?

  • WOW!

  • is it just me or is the sound of tht guy falling sound annoying

  • Reminded me of the book "Airborn" by Kenneth Opel.

  • @TackyNames Yes it does! I really enjoyed those books when i was younger.

  • It's called holding your breath it's on YouTube if you look it up :)

  • thanks a lot! foud it :D

  • there was a similar animation with a girl counting breaths can anybody help me find it?it seems to have disappeared...

  • this is really dark (no offense)

  • I'm here because I follow Day9 blindly.

  • is there other parts for the story?

  • thumbs up if found this out via our god day9

  • I'm proud my name is Jasper.

  • my name is jasper

  • Awesome! Very stylistic. The bridge of the ship looks like the porch of a victorian mansion!

  • In my ticking heart of dreams, I live in Gothia.

  • Fuck...

    My english isn´t too good.

    :(

  • Earth visitor 3 sent me a link to this film i liked it too..well done and, great storyline

  • *standing ovation*

  • Great scenery!

  • I wonder when the sequels to this are gonna get made. I heard there are supposed to be three. Take as long as you want, perfection can not be rushed and I'm happy to spend my time amazed by this, but I just wonder.

  • Great!

  • The Doctor / AKA THE MATRIX ARCHITECT !?!!!!1!1!!

  • @cyferman haha

  • This is awesome stuff!

  • Oh my God. It's like, it's like Tim Burton. But STEAMPUNK. :D

  • @Nightwatch177 Tim Burton actually did make a couple of steampunk movies (sort of) Edward Scissor hands for example. And The Demon barber of Fleet street.

  • @sumoslamer180 I fail to see how either of those movies were at all steampunk.

  • @ZaphodBeeblebrox65 They arn't fully steampunk thats true but there is a feel to it in parts like

Edward scissor hands: the lab where edward was made, and the deamon barber is in the industrial era so its kinda what steampunk's all about Industries, inventions, and raw technology.

  • @Nightwatch177 ...is it STEAM BURTON?

  • @Aaltereth hahahaha

  • Extraordinary animation, what gestures, what a plot, how cinematic! I do hope the sequels will be made. This really should have won the Academy Award. Thank you for posting, otherwise I would never have seen this!

  • @MinorKeyDancing

I don't think the sequels will ever be made.

  • This is quite good I was surprized!!!

  • I stopped watching this to order the DVD of short films including this on amazon. I'd rather see this in it's full glory. Spectacular work.

  • This is just fantastic! Is it really siluett animation or am I mistaking? A masterpiece!

  • he talks about 2 different distances when he spoke of the 1 degree difference.... so he knows that a degree is not representing distance

  • Gorgeous. A story well told. You couldnt have done any better.

  • 122 people don't like a good story

  • I just love the animation. The details-- like that weird clockwork instrument at 21:04. All the little gears turning is kind of mesmerising. The creature is a lot more mysterious and frightening when all you get is the silhouette. I think it's really the perfect medium for this story.

Also, I am reminded of Little Shop of Horrors.

  • oh my fucking god. this is the greatest thing ever made ever

  • A degree is not a measurement of distance.

  • @Slabel But there is a distance between degrees, geographically; within degrees of latitude and longitude there may be a great distance, even between one or two degrees.

  • @standingonair777 That's not what he was saying and frankly as a navigator he should know better. No wonder he's getting people killed.

  • @Slabel

Six degrees of separation. Psychological distance.

  • @sclogse1 Those are not physical distances.

  • @Slabel

I know...I'm just waving the handle end of my whip real slow to see if anyone out there at the other end, where it's popping and snapping, and causing great hayhem...........

  • @sclogse1 No you have to move the handle rapidly if you want it to pop and snap.

  • @Slabel

Since we're speaking metaphorically, and in terms of getting the most for your dollar, it's like someone mumbling something after you've spoke. Very little output...for a possible big payoff.....

Of course, I'm so far off whatever subject.....

  • now if only tim burton adapted it to a movie...

  • @gar2yc I think that would be insanley amazing on too many levels to count!!!

  • Is the description from the sequel or something?

  • Long live the imagination of animation!!

  • This was more than awesome. This was ... like ... awesome times six!!!!

  • Day[J] has brought me to this awesomeness, for eh saw that it was GOOD!

  • Day9 showed me!

  • albert robida's drawings come to "life", great job!

  • Great video.

    g.g.

    DayJ

  • Joel Edgerton is Jasper Morello

  • This is one short film that should be made into a feature length, with the same animation style and art design. It would do great.

  • day9 made me do it

  • Subtitles are crazy !! XDDD

  • It's a shame that he's not making the sequels to this. I'm actually a bit f'ed off at him to tell the truth lol xD

  • this reminds me (well the atmosphere or the setting) of the new Bio Shock Infinite game

  • when're we getting sequels like the official website says!? ;-;

  • @strengthofwill I remember reading about the sequels years back and still nothing, I don't think he has any plans to make them, plus last I checked the website is shutdown. Or is it back up again? =O

  • Fantastic.

  • he sounds like johnny deep lol

  • Day 9 got me here

  • Two years this has been here, and I never knew.

Shame on the rest of mass media--I followed a link from a comment on "Eye of the Storm", and am thankful.

To the creators of this work: Masterful, absolutely magnificent. Thank you.

  • 2 words for this Movie, Steam Punk !

  • That was just.... Fantastic!

  • ADVICE TO EVERYONE: Nobody cares why you watched this video.

  • brilliant

  • Day[J] made me do it.

  • Day9, that's all.

  • Oh holy cow, I got goose bumps because of this...It's a masterpiece.

  • this is efin awesome!! i love the dirty grimy look of steam punk, its the future from a 1900's perspective
