because it's the only thing that i have in my life that makes me feel good, that makes me feel worth it, that makes me feel like i can take on anything life throws at me.
Rowing is not a sport, it is a brother-hood. You do not row for yourself, you can't row for yourself as the reason why you will pull as hard as you do and strive to win every regatta is for your crew. You are brothers in arms. When I row, it isn't for my school. I pull and continue to pull so my crew can come out on top whether it is by millimetres or by boat lengths. All the time, the effort, the sweat, the blood goes towards one goal, and that is getting on the water on race day with your crew
@nicholasperry56 please tell me that they were really young or just horribly out of shape because there is no reason a male rower worth anything could not go sub 2 min/ 500m for 10 minutes just to work up a little sweat.
Ive rowed for a year now, and it is honestly been the best sport ive ever tried. It definitly is an amazing sport, and I could never be more grateful for the friends ive made and the things ive learnt about myself through it. i'm only young and i know that if i keep trying, one day i too can row for gold.
@mumyoudoit seriously, i hate and have hated all sports that have to do with racing. Crew is probably one of the hardest sports in the world if not the actual one. but the hting is you just wanna keep pushing.
''When Passion has a funny way of trumping logic''... only too true, after the last head of the river, My crew and the first team crew raced a 2km oct... we beat them by 12 seconds ;)

@sunnylovesfood98 He said that crew wasn't a real sport. Sourly mistaken. Judging by his username, I assume he plays baseball, which puts him in no position to insult ANY sport!
It is already for sale Eneko Dorronsoro's documentary "TTAUP, TTAUP! The Beating of the Oars", which had its premiere at San Sebastian International Film Festival (2010). A great film about rowers and teamwork.
Thanks I am not an expert but been trying since Jan 2011 .Age 50 now I entered a few challenges on the Concept 2,6000,5000,2000,1000,500 and 4min rowing I put the setting on 10 maybe too hard you can see my results I am Phillip Cameron 63kg age 50.
I was on a national competition for 8+ two days ago ,we stood no chance all ods were against us ,they were bigger, stronger, beter boats etc.. we were just ok with it and kinda didnt try to win so much ... after seeing this im feeling bad :S
@TCUsouthpaw rowing is the most intense sport out their.. other sports play GAMES ... rowers physically pit boats against each other and race using pure muscular strength
@TCUsouthpaw Go to your nearest YMCA and set the erg to 2km and give it a shot. After that, if you still think that crew isn't a real sport, please let us now.
@BuiltandTested Tryouts at my uni for the development crew were open. I saw 100s of guys go in to do 10 mins on the erg (they had to aim for 2:10 / 500m). Most of them were tough guys thinking it would be easy... most of them didn't finish...
@TCUsouthpaw let me guess, your some gay football/ basketball/ baseball player? people like you don't know what pain is unless you are one of the best in either football or basketball. based on your trolling I highly doubt you have had any success in your sports career. so you sir can go fuck yourself in the corner.
@xxRaVenS you make rowers look bad when you say people who play football/basketball/baseball are sissies and can't handle the intensity of rowing. they're different sports and require different skill sets. handle getting hit at full speed by someone, hit 3-pointers with 5 seconds left in a game, or hit a ball going 80+mph towards us? probably not, but we can tolerate extreme muscular pain and have excellent cardiovascular endurance. they're different sports and all require unique skills.
@TCUsouthpaw you probably play only the more common stuff like baseball or something. you never rowed before. you try spending thousands of damn hours doing training, not training where you can get a breather but where u push urself to ur max and do it again and again. do it it till your legs burn, your arms crack, your lungs are screaming. do that. do that over and over again. then tell me. anyone can paddle.
@TCUsouthpaw Rowing takes a lot of skill. Even if you're for one stroke in a race like the ones up there ^ not only will you devastate your chances of winning, you could end up with a fatal injury. It takes every ounce of alertness and focus you've got. Whereas in any other sport most could fake it and still win. So please, if you haven't tried something don't insult it.
@TCUsouthpaw its not even called a paddle .... its an OAR. your definition of a real sport is whacked up. this is real , the pain is real , the blood sweat and tears are real. the boundaries that you constantly break through , all real. most importantly, those 8 people you go to hell and back with are real. so you can take whatever real sport you do and go to hell. this is crew , and I'm bloody proud to be a part of it
@TCUsouthpaw Dude. Rowing is a sport. A 2k will prove that it's a sport. Now, I want you to go and do at least a 6k. Then you'll see that rowers need to learn to work themselves to death. They need to row till they can't row anymore, and then KEEP rowing. You'll have to learn that 'pain is the weakness leaving your body.' You wouldn't be able to handle it.
@OnlineSuchti I'm pretty sure after several world championship golds, and an olympic gold medal, he knows what he's doing.... if you're curious he pulls his hands to that height to get himself used to pulling up to his chest. because with 20 strokes left in a race all his hands want to do is collapse down towards his lap....not that you would know...
Get ready, Edgewater Crew! Listen to your heart, follow your cox. summon all your will and desire and win these races for all that is important to you.
