My school offers a class to teach how to use this software properly. You are a fool. When you use all the things that the software has to offer, then complain. worst review i have ever read
As an admitted novice in this software, I find this thread a bit perplexing. How is it that with thousands of users there seems to be only these isolated negative comments from one user, ShareGiver? I'm not arguing with any of the statements either way. It's just that normally when I find a product with notable problems there is an abundance of negative comments. I have not found that to be the case with Logos 4. And I truly appreciate the Christian attitude in the responses posted by LBS.
Apparently you have not visited an L4 forum (thread).
Are you prejudice? Is having a "christian" attitude supposed to be the acceptable "standard" by which I'm supposed to be approved? Because none of the holy people of old were "christians" Moreover, if preying upon peoples intelligence is an appreciated "chritstian" attitude, then surely you don't think I view your standard as respectful.
Only a novice or one who is not tech savvy would likely be oblivious to what LBS has implemented.
Your perplexity reminds me of the ever so reliable condition of ingrained blind faith.
Or is it because I'm not prejudice or biased? Because I do consistently perceive the reticence and passiveness of overly righteous christitans towards crhristians. While the Scriptures on the other hand teach to rebuke your brother frankly.
What you judge as "negative" could be an oversight on LBS for which they may take to heart. Time will tell, not your presumptuous acccusation.
@FactsIsFacts ShareGiver appears to be a novice looking into the cockpit of a 747 and criticizing the controls because they are beyond his understanding.
As Logos has pointed out. The program itself is free. It doesn't cost "thousands of dollars" as you incorrectly assert.
Logos has been upfront about the implementation of features from the very beginning.
As far as this idea of losing notes goes. If your computer is stolen, this program will help and not hurt. You'll be able to download the program, install it on a new computer, and have all of your notes available to you once it finishes installing. With Logos 3 that wasn't possible.
1. I haven't incorrectly asserted anything. You just don't comprehend what is written here. The program is NOT free. The CORE UPDATE is free. However, there is a charge of $170+ for the Standard Update.
The Description speaks of TWO items: The "New Version" AND "Upgrade". Obviously then, the item that is "selling at Full RETAIL that easily reaches into the thousands of dollars" could only be the complete New Versions.
L4 Gold is $1,379. L4 Platinum is $1,689. L4 Portfolio is $ 4,290.
2. You are a perfect example of how ignorant everyone is concerning the Sync Feature. If your computer is stolen, or improperly accessed, then the person using it will ALTER and/or DESTROY your settings, notes etc. Your Email & Password is automatically STORED to login after any install. So after you install L4 on a new computer: BAM! It will Sync to what was CHANGED and/or DESTROYED on your stolen computer! GET THAT? But it sounds like that is something that will" help" YOU. How ABSURD.
A refund? Your company finally fixed a major problem (L3's 10-20 minute search results). I've exceeded the allotted time for a refund for L3 in general, as that problem was not easily apparent until one acquires L3 Gold or 1,000+ titles. I, as well as many others have been stuck with it due to not being able to foresee how the software would behave over the period of time it would take most users to acquire such a large library. So would I or any user be better off with L3's search results?
There is no longer a Search Dialog in their Concordance (or else it just hasn't been fixed). Imagine having to scroll down thousands of entries to simply find a word in the Scriptures. Or imagine removing the Search Dialog in YouTube, while having to now scroll down an enormous alphabetical list of videos. Absolutely ABSURD. I can now use a conventional book and find it faster than Logs 4.
New Sync feature threatens potentially years of work. Sync feature stores all your settings, markups, notes etc on THEIR server. If your computer is ever stolen or accessed without permission, all of the above are easily destroyed due to the automated online Sync feature. The necessary Email & Password activation info is stored on machine (same Email & Password to access online account, so your credit card and personal info is at risk if someone knows how to read the password).
Your own computer doesn't even have to be accessed or stolen. If someone gets your Email & Password they can manipulate or destroy all of your settings at will. It is like a person having your FTP Logon / Password to your online domain. They don't need your copy of Dreamweaver to access your domain's files. Any machine that has the software installed with the same Email & Password will all Sync and thus share in multiplying that risk.
The two versions even run side by side. As for features you don't understand, like how to search, we'd be happy to address these directly if you'd just call or email.
I don't understand? Explain how to search with the NASB Concordance. The Search Dialog was REMOVED from L4. Oh, I've called....I was told to hit Control-F. That is what you call Search? That is ABSURD. Users are now supposed to remember various shortcut commands? Moreover, that type of "search" does not bring a user to any Headword Entry (the Index data was also removed from that title in L4). It could literally take an hour by the time I keep hitting "next" to find "love" in Mark for example.
UPDATE: The Search Dialog was recently added to the NASB Concordance. Someone was listening.
Now I can only hope for another honest ear to the other issues that could easily be fixed, and which would once again make this a coveted and highly recommended software.
If someone gets my house key they can come in and steal things!!
Yeah...so? Are you going to call the lock maker a rip off? How about the person who delivered your furniture that got stolen.
It's not Logos' job to keep your laptop secure. It's yours.
They've stated from the beginning. If you have very sensitive things in notes, then they are better stored someplace else...the notes in Logos are for "note taking while bible studying.
Logos 4 can easily be run in a completely offline mode. We implemented syncing in response to requests from users with multiple machines, and in order to provide both backup and data-sharing features. Moreover, the software is FREE; you only pay for content and add-in features. The upgrades with prices include many more resources, which is that the cost covers. Logos v3 still runs and is supported, and no one is compelled to upgrade.
Yes, it "can" run offline. That's like saying my computer "can" work offline (IF I turn the Wi-Fi off). There is no option to securely force any machine from logging in online with the stored Email & Password after install. So your statement is very misleading. But a fix is easy & makes one wonder what this company's true intentions were.
Your statement regarding not being "compelled to upgrade" speaks disrespectfully of L3 owners in light of the aforementioned scenario and problem with L3.
Please explain: Does a Gold Package for example simply use the free Core Engine? Or does it utilize features that exceed it? Because one can buy a SINGLE Title, but will be restricted to using the free Core Engine capabilities as opposed to using Gold Package capabilities. So the question is: Why would you suggest that someone owning a L3 Gold Package for example would share all features & capabilities with a full L4 Retail Package by not paying for the Standard Update, but using the free?
@ShareGiver Base package functionality is the same in ALL packages. (It is like your eye glasses, reading lamp & fingers are to reading a paper book.) It is hard to read a paper dictionary if you do not own one. But that would not justify saying your fingers, reading light or lasses "don't work." The Gold package is better because it contains more resources. It doesn't do anything more than the lower packages in functionality. You really don't know much about Logos 4.
