  • why did you play this song so fast?

  • I don't mind the tempo. Ragtime can sound good both fast or slow.

I don't like how you left out too many notes. And your left hand missed most of the correct notes near the end and you were playing the wrong chord.

  • yeah, but it sure is a toe-tapper!!!

  • lol fast forwarding... how come no one notices it :S

  • @jonjong9o

Perhaps because I've seen people in real life play it even quicker than this...

  • It's not fastfowarding buddy. LOL. It's called practice, Considering That's my piano teacher, and I've seen him play it. It isn't .

  • 5 stars.

But I prefer the Rag Time played at a suitable speed, you know, when speed matches the player's hands gravity.

    Anyway, you're an amazing pianist!

  • that was amazing! great job ;)

  • sped up.

with this quality of camera and the smoothness of hte hands and the movement of his head, i'd say it was sped up.

  • Stop trying to act smart. It's not sped up buddy.

  • AMAZING!

You should play Fantasie . I'm practicing on it!

    Good Job!

  • woah, now i see where you get your name! Amazing!!!!

  • You are incredible!

  • woow very good,5 stars!!

  • NOW THATS FAST!! lol, great vid!! two thumbs up!1 :)

  • That was cool! Yay! How are you on a proper piano? Acoustic so much better! Thanks.

  • Amateur pianist real skill comes from knowing how to play each song. But I guess if you just want to mess around sounds fun.

  • Good, I assume, amateur pianist but... wrong tempo.

    Still liked it tho'

  • Finally found someone that knows how to play this rag.............FAST!

  • No repeats?

    Still good though, 4/5.

  • Sorry :( No repeats in this recording... One of these days I'll fix up my recording rig and will be able to record more songs/versions :D

  • And I am the 20 devils in this world who have come to spam this comment.

  • At this tempo you lose all the juicy syncopations! Playing slower would be so much better.

  • I just started learning this on Friday - he does better tham e but i can't play this nearly as fast.

  • Yes, he did skip many parts, but it was just the repeating of what he had already done. The song is supposed to be 3:11 long, this is 1:17. It is not that short because he played it slow. Not bad playing, as I play this too, but I think he should play the whole song, that's what people want to hear.

  • Firstly, ragtime is traditionally in the structure AABBACCDD, not ABACAD.

Secondly, bars 7-10 of the second section are there for a reason: you're supposed to play them.

I could comment on the speed, but I like it at that speed ;P.

  • Hey! He May Have Played It Slightly Fast But He Didn't Play It Right! He Mixed Or Messed Up Differnt Parts! I Heard This Song Many Many Times So I Know When Someone Is Playing It Fast Or Just Skipping Parts!

  • you are very good!! really

but you are playing this a little bit to quickly

  • too fast and you played not all of the song, sometimes with wrong notes.

  • not that bad...some glitches here n there...but seriously dude...u need to cut back on coffee :S

  • if you want to play music fast...try the flight of the bumble bee....NOT moderate tempo rags....

horrible with LOTS of mistakes.....maybe you wouldn't make them if you played it a little SLOWER??

    hmmm??

  • very, very good!!!

  • you didn't syncopate the first main tune.

  • excelent but you're too fast

  • easy does it, don't bang out your frustration

Take them to the Lord in Prayer.

  • ahahhahha "make a video slow so I can learn how to play it." GET REAL haha! I've got the sheet music and its still bloody difficult. Also, who said that Joplin intended it to be played slow? SLOWER maybe but not SLOW. But yeah well done mate learn some more of his rags and put them up

  • crap.

  • Thank you!

  • How this rag was meant to be played. Excellent job.

  • well ur a pretty talented pianist its just that i prefer ragtime 2 b played slower which is what joplin wanted but i spose music is what you make of it..

  • make a video slow so i can learn to play it!

  • You can like this, I don't blame you but how would you feel wen you wrote a magnificant piece of music and somebody like this screws it?

  • Just because you know how to play the piano, it does NOT mean you are capable of playing Ragtime. You played this piece way too fast - learn the history of Ragtime BEFORE you play it; it was NOT meant to be rushed like this piece sounded.

  • stop whinging about people playing rag fast, it's crap slow, stop whinging.

Rag wasn't necessarily meant to be played slow, so maybe you should do a little more homework.

  • You also need to do some research into how Ragtime is suppose to be played! I have played ragtime music longer than you've been born.

  • "Even after much research, we have only scant evidence of actual ragtime playing tempos, other than the occasional metronome marking and the few ragtime piano recordings made prior to 1918 or so." -Prof. Bill Edwards. You read a book once and suddenly you're a specialist on ragtime, huh? Read some more, and practice thy grammar. The piece rocks dude... keep playing like Miller.

  • Grow up - you clearly exhibit the fact that your age matches your IQ!

  • You're a total moron. You wouldn't even know the standard deviation of I.Q. let alone what it stands for. Learn to play piano and come back...

  • I agree with ladythelma. it shouldn't be played that fast. Why don't you check PianoBloke's video of it?

  • Thank you Svetlailieva - It is finally nice to hear from a TRUE musician that understands how music should be played! There is more to playing Ragtime than to speed it up to impress the uneducated how "fast" you can play a piece of music.

  • Thank you LadyThelma. I am flattered (for you called me a true musician :) Did you check my videos? Do you like my music?

  • I love your compositions and the way you play them. As I said before, and after watching your videos, I am saying it again - YOU ARE A VERY GOOD MUSICIAN!

  • you're both idiots.

  • Mabye some people like hearing them played fast? There are plenty of people here who seem to agree. I'm one of them. So if people like to hear them fast then WHY in gods name shouldn't he play them fast? Music is made for the ear to enjoy, if people enjoy the music then the history of ragtimes can go to hell.

    I think it sounds awesome.

  • Ever heard of interpretation? He plays what he wants to play and how he plays it. Clearly, you are not changing his playing by whining in his video's comments.

Besides, I like it that fast.

  • this wayyyyyyy to fast

  • nothing special, you have skipped some parts and the rythm isn't regular. Play it slow before tryin' it fast. And learn it all first. Listen the Jelly Roll Morton's version(Mimi Blais's too). Try to improvise on it, to make your own Maple Leaf Rag!!! The original is too easy.

  • Good god! How come it always bee asian people who are so good at playing piano?!

    Great video!

  • ♥♥♥&hearts;♥♥♥&hearts;♥♥♥&hearts;♥♥♥♥♥♥&hearts;♥♥♥&hearts;♥♥♥&hearts;♥♥♥♥♥♥&hearts;

  • Haha, jumped all over the place in the piece, but I like it. I particularly like the personal little flares you added in there.

  • dude you skipped like 4 parts or something but nice job.

  • Scott Joplin invariably instructed us not to play ragtime fast. Why you no rissen?

  • I understand your viewpoint regarding Fast Ragtime. I plan to record a more original performance in future. I also recognize, though, that some do prefer faster ragtime over slower. Keep in mind I DO plan to, in future, record a more original performance.

    Thank you for your comments.

  • no he didn't... back to the books, chump.

  • AWE-SOME! love this song just as much

  • Yeah it's cool... Although you screwed up the piece a bit ^^

  • That is one nice piano. Yo lo quiero. Haha.

  • dude, that was good playing. Impressive, I mean obviously it could use a bit of polish, but you're well talented, good job.

  • too slow. speed it up a bit. Have about 5 cups of coffee and then begin again.

    thank you

  • i liike it

  • thats cool, i thought you fastforwarded it..haha but no,, and i like the "improvising" on ur own haha

  • Wow, that was fast! Your fingers just fly around those keys! I don't think I could make my chubby little fingers do that!

  • It sounds a lot better when it's played slowly like it was intended to be played, or at least that is my opinion shared with that of the composer. You're very good, I just don't personally like speedy ragtime.

  • I'll let you know when I get another recording up! Just for you I'll throw in all the roll piano licks as well :D

  • dude, this is really good...i don't know what brads talking about. i love playing stuff fast, this is awesome. keep up the great work

  • that was bad sorry but its well to fast lots of mistakes not in order. but dont get me wrong you could play it well if u tryed.

  • I was shocked to see how fast I actually played it when I watched the video. I also played around witht he order a little bit but there's not much you can do with only 4 verses. I'll try uploading another recording this weekend...stay tuned...

  • lol good job JIM
