  • @MrSidewaysUK yep.Cancer.

  • @dgr64 oh man! :(

  • Nice post ! That's Great rally !! Very exciting !!!

  • Thanks for uploading this, these were proper cars

  • This is just excellent, really takes me back to my childhood, an avid motorsport fan.

Got to agree these older cars just look so cool, proper old skool stuff being hurled around by "proper nutters" with phenomenol talent, just a real joy to be able to see again.

    Fantastic upload - thanks.

  • J'ai participé en 1977 -78 et 79 aux manx Trophy Rallye sur Alpine Renault, la seule fois où des Alpine ont couru ce rallye. Je recherche des photos de cette époque. Merci d'avance

I participated in 1977 -78 and 79 in the Manx Trophy Rally on Renault Alpine, the only time of Alpine ran the rally. I'm looking for photos of that era.

    Thank you in advance

  • If Tony pond had the proper backing., he could've been a multiple world champion. R.I.P my hero.

  • How much does the Porsche weigh and what model is it based on?

How much does the Toyota weigh and what model is it based on?

  • Nice post, 5*s

    Thanks for posting!

  • tony pond sum man in a 6r4.....sum man 2 drive

  • is it just me or were the cars of the 80s the coolest that have ever been made

  • I don't know about the cars but, by far the coolest Mustaches.

  • @stinkbandit Tony Pond's was the best moustache

  • Again , thanks for posting, I only feel so out of touch I didn't even know tony had past on....

    Brave guys..

  • Absolutely Beautiful ! The cars are on the limit through every corner.

  • old skool, when drivers did the driving not the cars. sweet video.

  • in a perfecf world ford would start making real escorts again?

  • Yes ^^

  • Pond refused a number of offers to drive more competitive machinery but it was his great loyalty and sense of honour that stopped him taking them.

Just look at some of the crap he got decent results in.

A great man, sadly missed and a great video.

  • Old-school cars, Old-school driving style, Old-school drivers, good Old-school movie :)

  • "On his second attempt on the 6th June 1990 he teamed up again with Austin Rover and achieved immortality by taking a standard production car, a Rover 827 Vitesse, and became the first ever production car and driver to average over 100mph around the Isle Of Man TT Motor Bike Circuit. To this date, this feat has never been equaled."

  • hey there, thanks for this and all the other vids you have posted. Please, if you have more, add them. Great history, great racing....

    cheers

    Hodge

  • couldn't agree more with your comments on Tony Pond. The guy had a great sense of humour,a very sad loss.

  • ari??isnt it henri toivonen you talk about

  • i'm presuming it is Ari......it was his accident in argentina 1985 he's referring to.Ari was an amazing driver, but he did tend to have a win or crash mentality. Some drivers settle for regular points, and there are those who feel that a win is worth the risk of getting nothing.

  • thats is what separates champions from also-rans..

  • Ari is the best, if you know your rally history you know he only failed because he was a little over eager and on the limit , which cost him 2 world championships before his horrific crash in 86,

  • 6:17 haha

  • 5*! i like the way those old RWD cars need much more driver skills to go fast.

And not one FWD car to be seen!

  • you know ;-)

  • yeah FWD is total shit! It's the worst way... it's like walking on hands.

  • thecliffrichard, did you ever compete against Tony Pond? NO? Well if you had you would know he was not only a gentleman but also blisteringly quick in everycar he ever drove.

Comments like yours have no place on youtube.

  • Was on the ferry with the Rothmans rally team. Great memories!!

  • They all stsrs

  • pond what a legend

  • was there as a kid, travelled over as a rally mad family from england!! Plus Walter Rohl nearly killed my dad with a bit of unexpected tail action in the 911. Back when you could get real close !!!

  • Why did Penti Aricalla always drive a slow, unreliable Toyota when Opel and Vauxhall were always winning the rallys? Cool video man.

  • per eklund is the toyota driver in this one.

pentti drove the chevette hs before driving the escort, and was british champion in that car.

    glad you liked the vid.

  • cool video man

  • i hate the 911s but you can see why they rally them, cheap parts, plenty of them around and very reliable, still lucks like a platypus among the ducks though. good vid mate, anybody who wants decent rally footage come here. better than those "fatal crash" videos where a wheel falls off!

  • rip tony.

  • superb - well found!

  • Excellent vid dug,

First time i've seen anything from the 81 Manx. Great footage and great rally. Tony Ponds a legened.
