An absolutely haunting and amazing piece. I play this piece sometimes on my Fender Rhodes electric piano and use my MicroKorg synthesizer for the string parts. God, what I would give to hear this played by a symphony orchestra.
This is also my favorite CV-game. May have something to do with it being one of the first games i played. And as a little kid interested in mythology and monsters there was basically nothing better.
If you then add to the fact that Super CV IV possesses the best score of any CV-game, well, then you've got a winner!
I like how the composer actually knows how to write good basslines with great rhythms and modulation.
You know I never really used to like old SNES sound chip -- I thought it sounded a bit too clean, sanitized, and generic compared to earlier sound chips with more square waves and harsher tones -- but these days I seem to really appreciate it. I feel SCIV's soundtrack probably shows off its unique musical strengths the most. Super Metroid does well in this regard, too.
I've been looking for this song since forever, but the only part I remember from my childhood is 0:47 and on. This song sets such an awesome atmosphere for monster slaying.
While I didn't particularly care for this song or area in the game, it had unrivaled atmosphere. I'm surprised by the work that went into stage 3. There are three completely different areas each with a different song. That is dedication to a good game right there.
rpg elements and different story make it a different story. you dont hear people call call of duty doom just because theyre both first person shooters. similar elements do not make the game the same.

I think Rondo of Blood on the PC Engine CD has the best soundtrack - have you ever check that out?

why does this one not have a number? Great track anyhow, and brilliant game. I have it on my Wii too!

Why is this one called waterfalls, and #155 is called waterfalls? They both sound different!
ShadowMario64 1 year ago
@ShadowMario64 That's actually a naming mistake that got into the SPC set, which I forgot to fix. Thanks for reminding me, #155 is Cave.

@SupraDarky why does this entry not have a number at all? My OCD doesn't like it! excellent song though. very relaxing.

@ShadowMario64 This theme incorporates the main rhythm of Cave at least

Makes me think of Final fantasy 7. This song is so totally FF7 in its mood and ambience!

You're a good man for having this be your favorite game in the series.
The metroidvanias can be great, but nothing can beat Super Castlevania IV.

@Rathalos887 And definitely not any 3D GoW Castlevania.

@Rathalos887 metroidvania? you stereotyping bunch make me sick. calling sotn "metroidvania" is close to blasphemous.

@isuraeru7 ... but the game was essentially Metroid with RPG elements and a different story.

And here's the original version. This is a game that'll be staying on my Wii (thanks VC!) forever, I play through it every now and then.
