With such a large roof space, you could also do some rain harvesting. It sounds like you are in an area that gets quite a bit of rain. This could possibly alleviate the need to pump so much water out of the ground. With such a large lot, you could use the stored water to irrigated some crops.
i have the same type of roof on my shed. but the wood under it is plywood and only a few inches thick. if i used some 2" galvanized corner braces and used wood screws to secure them would that work? i might have to put some wood blocks on top to get past the ridges that these metal roofs have. and yeah id have to bend the corner braces into shape. but would the plywood hold it if the wind picked up?
Hi Al, I made a short video on how I installed my panels with unistrutt chanels. It is the 1st video on my channel. You can buy this material in aluminum, zinc, and hot dipped galvinized at a electrical supply. You can only get the zinc coated at home depot but the zinc coated will not hold up for outside use. I see you have a lot of time and money in your system and I think the unistrutt will last you a lifetime after installed. I hope this helped.
@FUBARPROTOCOL I did watch the video at it extremely useful in seeing exactly what components you used - much simpler than what I was doing!. I will go to my local electrical supply dealer and get all those components, hopefully next weekend I'll be able to mount more panels using this system. Thanks and God bless you.
Your vids are great and I have learned alot. I just installed 4 new 100w panels and I used 2" hot dipped galvanized unistrut channels and it worked great. I allso purchased the back springnuts and flat clips from a local elect. supplier. You can allso get it in aluminum. The cost for the galv was $22.00 for a 10' joint and the nuts, clips, and 2" bolts were about $4.00 a set. The cost for 4 panels was $84.00. You might want to fasten them on the high point of your roof panels and not in valley
@FUBARPROTOCOL Thanks for the comment and glad to hear you got your panels done using those channels. I have no idea what they are so I'll have to research that, I'd rather use that than pressure treated wood - thanks for the tip!
You are absolutely right about bolting to the hight point - now that I think about it I'll do the rest using the ridges to bolt them down. Thanks!
@mrbuki77 Thanks for the comment, you guys are helping out also with the comments, FUBARPROTOCOL just gave some solid advice that I'll follow. The YouTube community is great because we can all learn from each other, we all have something to offer that others may not know and we collectively are better off for it. God bless you!
@NoMoWires The last storm and the hurricane before that we something else. The hurricane took my tower down but I'll rebuild with two towers now to eliminate the twisting problem. I'm almost to the point where I will be net zero with the electric bill.
Respond to this video...Thanks Kevin! I was watching you as well to see how fared also, looks like we're blessed with protection from the Lord. I look forward to all your videos as well, great video abut the batteries, I was thinking about doing one on that but don't need to now. I have two batteries to recondition which I'll do a video for that on how to use a desulfator, voltmeter and hydrometer to do that.
Respond to this video...Yes there is document on company's site that I downloaded and filled out , I had to provide model numbers, warranties and specifications for the grid tie inverters (that's all they care about) plus a diagram showing all components and connections (which I did). I then took it to them and they come out and inspect the electrical work, before I can connect to the grid. Pretty easy really since my power company is a cooperative. God bless you!
thanx bro!

@thundermonty I guess it would, that's the way my roof is and it's holding just fine.

So do you get permits to install all these? Do you need to talk with your power company when you're installing Grid Tie?
