  • oh "hi!" nice place to study..

  • Type of things I was involved in and that you can also join. STUDENT GOVERNMENT: Associated Students Organization- started as an Associate Justice,Treasurer,VP,then President. SSCCC. CLUBS: Social Justice Club-Member. Creative Writing Club-Treasurer. Chess Club- Member. Value Creation Club-Member. Phi Theta Kappa-President. Alpha Gamma Sigma-Treasurer. OTHER: Transfer Honors Program Assistant & Campus Library Computer tutor (work study). REEO Mentor program. Culver City MLK committee.

  • Wow that's amazing! Thanks for the advice! I go to community college like you did and I am a first generation college student so I need all the advice I can get. And it's always from people I do not know lol. I don't know what clubs to join or how to start volunteer work, but I'll look into it. Thanks a lot for the help! Oh one last question, did you speak to your school counselors or Berkeley reps more and which were the most helpful? Thanks!

  • @QuiNDeRNoMiKz I too am a first gen. college student! What college do you attend? I went to West L.A College. Join a club you are interested in. Take on a leadership position. They provide you with opportunities to develop many skills! You also get connected to the campus and gain access to resources you would otherwise be unaware of. I mostly did my own counseling (ASSIST.org) or went to see the EOP&S counselors. I also went to the transfer center alot. I spoke to a Berkeley rep there once.

  • Impacted majors are very competitive! Everyone that applies to Cal has amazing GPA's. If you really want to set yourself apart from other students, you need to get involved in extra curricular activities or programs that will allow you to develop leadership skills. Berkeley wants well-rounded students. Make sure you have at least 5 people review your personal statement. It's very important that you answer the prompt!... I was involved in student gov., five clubs, and community volunteer work.

  • I transferred with a 3.67 GPA from my community college. I applied as an intended Chicano Studies major, but when I got my admissions notice online, it stated that I was admitted with an undeclared major into the college of L&S. You have to apply to declare for your major when you get to Cal. I took advantage of this and since I had also fulfilled some prerequisite courses for Sociology, I declared for that when I got to campus. I highly recommend getting involved in extra-curricular activities!

  • Oh okay. I want to transfer to Berkeley too but I hope my 3.75 GPA is good enough.

  • Oops, I meant to say 2011-2012, LOL!

  • @tejasvi0claw: You applied in fall for 2010-2011 admissions? Berkeley's the last university to respond, so it's nerve-wracking! Good luck! I hope you get in!! :D

@quindernomikz: I'm a declared Sociology major considering a minor in Global Poverty and Practice.

  • Hey what is ur major?

  • Berkeley rules!!

Ill be there in a year!!

    :) :D
