He was also a legend in his own right. Mantle was one of the greatest athletes to play baseball, and sports until injuries and booze, reduced his effectiveness.

BTW Babe Ruth was better than Jordan. Jordan wasn't even the best basketball player of all time. Wilt Chamberlain is.

@carlinrulez666 No it was Jordan. More rings, higher scoring average, better defender, much better during the critical moments of a game that define greatness. Wilt was a poor free throw shooter and for all his size and strength, he didn't possess the killer instinct that Jordan and others like Kareem and Russell had when the championship was on the line. Pound for Pound, Jordan is the greatest athlete ever. Babe Ruth and Wilt belong right there alongside Jordan though as alltime legends.

All you have to do is look at the record books, it practically pays tribute to Chamberlain. You can't go by Championships, otherwise, Robert Horry is one of the all time greats. Wilt even said to Jordan, "The NBA made the game harder for me to dominate, and they made it easier for you (Jordan) to dominate." The refs also took it easy on Jordan too, even though Jordan is one of the best, but Wilt is the best, since the NBA had to change the rules to make Wilt less dominant.

@carlinrulez666 The rules didn't make Wilt less dominant, guys like Russell and Willis Reed who overcame Chamberlain through sheer will, did. And I can tell you haven't looked at an NBA record book lately because Michael Jordan's name is stamped all over it. He's the best combination of dominant offense, defense and championships ever and in the words of Jerry West, who played with and against Wilt, "What made Jordan the best ever was his offense, defense and longevity. He proved it over time."
