Her singing lacks soul, brother!!! She has about as much blues expression as Ronald Reagan giving a speech. The changed intro and dreamy middle section suck as well; they don't fit the tune's mood. However, the more aggresive tempo and strangled guitar sound and licks do kick ass -- better than the original's, actuallly -- and save this rendition from being unnecessary.
@mattaldrich1 That intro strikes me to the soul; it plays to her style, especially with her Shibuya-kei growls highlighted over the solo bass. The pause is like a tease before it brings us back more vicious and insistent, more wanton.
On the album(s), it plays beautifully against her more understated songs ("Kareha" immediately comes to mind from the Mori-pact disc) and acts to display her vocal range in its full character, which seemed to be the unexpected outcome of this set.
This turned me on the Shiina Ringo. I've since bought just about all of her CD's, and Tokyo Jihen's too. These amazing artists should be reknown worldwide!
I'm afraid your understanding of Blues is rather limited then. There's plenty of Blues that came out of America that sounds exactly like this. Just listen to guys like Howlin' Wolf or Muddy Waters. They made music that sounded very similar and they are the absolute epitome of the Blues.
@k0stil Blues is based on chord structure and themes in technical aspects, just because there is distortion and what you consider screaming does not mean it is not a blues tune. This is a combination of genres but the biggest influence is blues. You can't be so narrow minded while critiquing music. Don't try to force your ignorant assumptions upon other people.
@ringostar8 ...Your right they need to listen to the likes of Son House then John Lee Hooker then Blind lemon and then Muddy Waters and back to Albert King and Robert Johnson and Miles Davis blues and then someone like Howling Wolf and BB King and etc etc etc.....IT IS FROM YOUR SOUL NOT YOUR MIND...this is a good take on this song
Whoa....I love her voice! And yes, this is so awesome. I especially like the fact that this track has organ on it, whereas the original Beatles tune does not.
Hello new favorite song...
