Hayley's justice on jeff may have been satisfying for the viewer, but that does not make it the right thing to do.

To be honest. All these specultaions are, in my opinion, pointless. I mean, if any of these "possibilities", that fro example she were older than the she revealed. If that had to do anything with the movie itself, it would have been brought up. Now I don't want you to think of me as a mindless imbicile, but.. The movie wasn't that, well, it was pretty dry. The scenario was ridiculous, a girl manhandles a 30 year old and chopps his balls off. Now there might be some "cryptic residue" hidden here,
The thing about Hayley in this movie is she never ACTUALLY physically hurts him (but there is the saran wrap and tazer thing but those were in self defense). Everything she does to him, she does w/o actually hurting him. All she does is really just torment him and make him realize and take responsibility for his crimes though I do think she takes it a bit far. There aren't many things answered in the movie and you're always second guessing yourself when you're trying to decide whos good or bad
I felt this movie, despite it's intriguing premise, was very annoying and vastly far-fetched. And it's not just cuz I'm a man. Personally I thought "Teeth" was hilarious. Ellen Page, although I feel has a lot of potential, is just god awful in this film. Not that it's completely her fault. Her performance, although extremely unimpressive, couldn't compare to her character who comes off as being written as an embittered, 45 yr old sociopath.
Haha I saw Teeth, funny movie. But anyways, I also thought Ellen's performance in this film wasn't her best, but I don't think anyone could have done better with this role with it being mentally unstable, maybe insane, 14 year old girl. And there were some annoying parts, I agree, but I also thought there were some great parts. The roof scene being my favorite. I thought this movie would encourage people to not look at things with such a black and white view and open up some minds.
See, that's the thing. I don't know what the msg is. Obviously it's against statutory rape. That much is clear, but cuz Page's dialogue and character were so unrealistically written, I couldn't suspend my disbelief and found myself rooting for her scumbag hostage. He was a good actor. Personally I felt that had her character not been so deviously charismatic, and a little more disorganized it would have made for a much more suspenseful film. Convincing him to kill himself also made not sense.
But had she not been so deviously charismatic I think the film would have been very different, and not for the better. Idk about you, but I would have been very annoyed with nervous, disorganized girl. Hayley is obviously very passionate in the movie, as you can tell by her actions, and her charismatic ways also show this. If you take away her dialogue her passion wouldn't be as evident causing the film to lose much of its effect, even if the dialogue is unrealistic.
You're right. It would've been a much more different film. And honestly I really think it would've been better because of it. A 14yr old with a hannibal lector mentality and a vengeful moral code is just too hard to swallow. No person her age is capable of such things. Especially overpowering a 30yr old guy. Even with a taser. By making her a psychopath, which again is totally unbelievable for someone her age, she had no likability and came off more as a villain than on the side of good.
Also, had she been unaware of the full gravity of what she was doing, there would have been a profound message about the loss of innocence. The nature of justice and what it means to torture and kill another human being for the sake of retribution. By writing her as a REAL person it would've been easier to relate to her and her actions. Had she gone into that situation with no real plan in mind, acting only through her moral outrage to come out as the victor in the end, I'd a been much happier.
I think anyone can be capable of such things and emotions, especially during adolescence. And she was able to overpower him due to her intelligence. She was able to drug him which allowed her to gain the upper hand, but you saw some of the mistakes she did make, but she always got things back in her control. Had she not had the mentality she had there would have been no movie at all. And I don't think either of the characters were meant to be likable. Read my first comment again.
I disagree (big surprise). I find it very hard to believe anyone at that age is so deranged. There was nothing wrong with her emotions. That was justified. But her ability to orchestrate this elaborate scenario like she'd been doing it for years was ridiculous and couldn't have been further from reality. It just didn't work. Now had she had an accomplice. Some adult pulling the strings and using her to not only get into the apartment, but confirm the guy's pedophilia. That would've made sense.
How do you explain school shootings? Kids torturing small animals? Of course kids at that age can be very deranged. And I don't think you're giving this girl enough credit, not all teenage girls are dumb and concieted and Hayley happened to be incredibly smart. I don't find that at all unrealistic because believe it or not there are some ridiculously intelligent teenagers, not many of them, but Hayley happened to be one. And having an adult pull the strings would just ruin the movie imo.
Once again, I'm not saying kids aren't capable of having these emotions. Certainly Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were capable. But the one thing they failed to do was keep it a secret. Wiping down entire rooms for fingerprints, etc. Many children have incredible book smarts, but street smarts (which is what is required to pull off the plot of this film) doesn't come from just being intelligent. It comes from life experience. There's only so much a 14yr old can learn in their life time.
I agree about keeping it a secret, but the movie showed little of what happened beyond him hanging himself, so theres no telling on whether or not she was caught, but I think it was meant for people to believe she got away. She did wear gloves and clean up after herself though, and I don't think the police would have looked to far into a seemingly suicidal pedofile's murder or suicide (however you want to look at it). But I could be wrong. And Hayley sure as hell seemed book AND street smart.
That's my POINT. A kid that age doesn't have the street smarts to pull this whole thing off. I can see liking the plot of this movie. I like it too. But the fact remains, it's not a fantasy or a satire. It's meant to be realistic. And it failed big time in that department. Here's how the ending could have been improved. They have a struggle on the roof and the guy kills Page. The gravity of what he's done, including what he did to provoke this whole thing hits him full force and he kills himself
I don't think he would feel all that bad killing a girl who tormented him so horribly, especially while he already killed (or witnessed the murder) a girl who most likely did nothing to him. So that to me wouldn't make sense, but I see what you're getting at. And you're right, MOST kids (I'm saying maybe 95%) would never have those kind of street smarts to pull it off but theres no telling what Hayleys already experienced. Anythings possible but the movie gave us no info about stuff prior to it.

Thats a very good point, she could have very well been older than she had said. But if shes 18 or older I think that would take so much away from the movie because it would pretty much be two adults just meeting up instead of a minor meeting with with a guy way older than her. But her being older than she stated is deffinetely a possibility.
On the contrary, I don't feel it takes anything from the movie...I think a girl possibly named Haley possibly 17-18 charading as a 14 year old to get vengeance on one of the murderers of her sister is plausible and effective...especially since while being that smart and craft as a 17 year old is easily conceived, I don't see many 17 year olds that deep.
I also think that would be plausible and effective, and although its also another possiblity, I don't think the people behind the making of the movie were going for an angry 17 yr. old sibling killed by this man who may or may not have even done anything. When Hayley said "I am every little girl you ever watched, touched, hurt, screw, killed." I believe at this point she would have revealed her being the sister of Donna.

I guess it is impossible to really know if anyone deserves to die, but when you see people continuously hurting others and having little to no real remorse, you have to wonder if they have abused the gift of life as a whole. However, as I said before, I do not think it is right to kill others unless it is in self defense. Hayley's justice on jeff may have been satisfying for the viewer, but that does not make it the right thing to do.

To be honest. All these specultaions are, in my opinion, pointless. I mean, if any of these "possibilities", that fro example she were older than the she revealed. If that had to do anything with the movie itself, it would have been brought up. Now I don't want you to think of me as a mindless imbicile, but.. The movie wasn't that, well, it was pretty dry. The scenario was ridiculous, a girl manhandles a 30 year old and chopps his balls off. Now there might be some "cryptic residue" hidden here,

The thing about Hayley in this movie is she never ACTUALLY physically hurts him (but there is the saran wrap and tazer thing but those were in self defense). Everything she does to him, she does w/o actually hurting him. All she does is really just torment him and make him realize and take responsibility for his crimes though I do think she takes it a bit far. There aren't many things answered in the movie and you're always second guessing yourself when you're trying to decide whos good or bad

I felt this movie, despite it's intriguing premise, was very annoying and vastly far-fetched. And it's not just cuz I'm a man. Personally I thought "Teeth" was hilarious. Ellen Page, although I feel has a lot of potential, is just god awful in this film. Not that it's completely her fault. Her performance, although extremely unimpressive, couldn't compare to her character who comes off as being written as an embittered, 45 yr old sociopath.

But anyways, I also thought Ellen's performance in this film wasn't her best, but I don't think anyone could have done better with this role with it being mentally unstable, maybe insane, 14 year old girl. And there were some annoying parts, I agree, but I also thought there were some great parts. The roof scene being my favorite. I thought this movie would encourage people to not look at things with such a black and white view and open up some minds.

See, that's the thing. I don't know what the msg is. Obviously it's against statutory rape. That much is clear, but cuz Page's dialogue and character were so unrealistically written, I couldn't suspend my disbelief and found myself rooting for her scumbag hostage. He was a good actor. Personally I felt that had her character not been so deviously charismatic, and a little more disorganized it would have made for a much more suspenseful film. Convincing him to kill himself also made not sense.

Idk about you, but I would have been very annoyed with nervous, disorganized girl. Hayley is obviously very passionate in the movie, as you can tell by her actions, and her charismatic ways also show this. If you take away her dialogue her passion wouldn't be as evident causing the film to lose much of its effect, even if the dialogue is unrealistic.

You're right. It would've been a much more different film. And honestly I really think it would've been better because of it. A 14yr old with a hannibal lector mentality and a vengeful moral code is just too hard to swallow. No person her age is capable of such things. Especially overpowering a 30yr old guy. Even with a taser. By making her a psychopath, which again is totally unbelievable for someone her age, she had no likability and came off more as a villain than on the side of good.

Also, had she been unaware of the full gravity of what she was doing, there would have been a profound message about the loss of innocence. The nature of justice and what it means to torture and kill another human being for the sake of retribution. By writing her as a REAL person it would've been easier to relate to her and her actions. Had she gone into that situation with no real plan in mind, acting only through her moral outrage to come out as the victor in the end, I'd a been much happier.

I think anyone can be capable of such things and emotions, especially during adolescence. And she was able to overpower him due to her intelligence. She was able to drug him which allowed her to gain the upper hand, but you saw some of the mistakes she did make, but she always got things back in her control. Had she not had the mentality she had there would have been no movie at all. And I don't think either of the characters were meant to be likable. Read my first comment again.

I disagree (big surprise). I find it very hard to believe anyone at that age is so deranged. There was nothing wrong with her emotions. That was justified. But her ability to orchestrate this elaborate scenario like she'd been doing it for years was ridiculous and couldn't have been further from reality. It just didn't work. Now had she had an accomplice. Some adult pulling the strings and using her to not only get into the apartment, but confirm the guy's pedophilia. That would've made sense.

How do you explain school shootings? Kids torturing small animals? Of course kids at that age can be very deranged. And I don't think you're giving this girl enough credit, not all teenage girls are dumb and concieted and Hayley happened to be incredibly smart. I don't find that at all unrealistic because believe it or not there are some ridiculously intelligent teenagers, not many of them, but Hayley happened to be one. And having an adult pull the strings would just ruin the movie imo.

Once again, I'm not saying kids aren't capable of having these emotions. Certainly Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were capable. But the one thing they failed to do was keep it a secret. Wiping down entire rooms for fingerprints, etc. Many children have incredible book smarts, but street smarts (which is what is required to pull off the plot of this film) doesn't come from just being intelligent. It comes from life experience. There's only so much a 14yr old can learn in their life time.

I agree about keeping it a secret, but the movie showed little of what happened beyond him hanging himself, so theres no telling on whether or not she was caught, but I think it was meant for people to believe she got away. She did wear gloves and clean up after herself though, and I don't think the police would have looked to far into a seemingly suicidal pedofile's murder or suicide (however you want to look at it). But I could be wrong. And Hayley sure as hell seemed book AND street smart.

That's my POINT. A kid that age doesn't have the street smarts to pull this whole thing off. I can see liking the plot of this movie. I like it too. But the fact remains, it's not a fantasy or a satire. It's meant to be realistic. And it failed big time in that department. Here's how the ending could have been improved. They have a struggle on the roof and the guy kills Page. The gravity of what he's done, including what he did to provoke this whole thing hits him full force and he kills himself

I don't think he would feel all that bad killing a girl who tormented him so horribly, especially while he already killed (or witnessed the murder) a girl who most likely did nothing to him. So that to me wouldn't make sense, but I see what you're getting at. And you're right, MOST kids (I'm saying maybe 95%) would never have those kind of street smarts to pull it off but theres no telling what Hayleys already experienced. Anythings possible but the movie gave us no info about stuff prior to it.

On the contrary, I don't feel it takes anything from the movie...I think a girl possibly named Haley possibly 17-18 charading as a 14 year old to get vengeance on one of the murderers of her sister is plausible and effective...especially since while being that smart and craft as a 17 year old is easily conceived, I don't see many 17 year olds that deep.

When Hayley said "I am every little girl you ever watched, touched, hurt, screw, killed." I believe at this point she would have revealed her being the sister of Donna.
