  • Big Brother watches you !!

Chuck Norris watches Big Brother !!

  • And nowadays Apple records your geo data and wants to store all your files... Oh, sweet sweet irony! :-)

  • why did this commercial only air once?

  • What the hell were these guys on when they came up with this one...

  • Powerful!

  • HEY I WAS WATCHING THAT!

  • 1984: Steve Jobs & Ridley Scott started it with this spot

2011: We are watching 'Gladiator' on iPad

    Epic!

    ||| mypixelstory |||

tag along with indie spirit !

  • is that chell?

  • R.I.P steve jobs

  • RIP Steve Jobs, 1955-2011.

  • ORDWELLIAN COMERCIAL!!!

  • I thought "Macintosh" was going to be a television movie as there was a whole slew of programming with a "1984"/Orwell bent. You have to hand it to Jobs, he did to the Middle East just what he put forward in this video. Hat's off Steve, you did it.

  • lookes a bit like a scene from half life

  • radiophonic boii!

  • Don't you worry about Planet Express, let me worry about blank.

  • I didn't know Hooters had a sledgehammer throwing competition.

  • who here read 1984? it's actually a pretty good book...

  • @sniperdude5236 1984 is a classic. its a great book which was also adapted into a film. george orwell is a great writer, a visionary, he has many other books that are not as well known as 1984 but are equally entertaining.

  • @AMBat3rdrock yep agreed :) i loved that book...althought it was somewhat awkward

  • @sniperdude5236 what did you find awkward about it?

  • @AMBat3rdrock lol, u read the book. u should probably know. idk y orwell went so deep in detail but did u know that the movie is rated R b/c of those inappropriate scene

  • @sniperdude5236 im assuming you are referring to his relationship with julia and there various meetings. if you are i guess i can understand where you are coming from but i didnt feel awkward towards any of the book, its strange how this book was written long ago about a future that for us is already in the past and yet it feels so relevent and honest. im assuming you have read 'do androids dream of electric sheep' then? if not its another great book and the great bladerunner is based on it

  • wow how many shows like the simpsons joke with that

  • Hooters Girl FTW

  • @chri55andy Yeah, she sure has a great rack. wonder what there like now...

  • Theodore Roszak discusses this commercial in the article Raging Against the Machine (Los Angeles Times, 2004).

  • Macintosh = Crash Different

  • FRIKIS

  • "Secure from the pests of any contradictory thoughts"? Sounds like the App Store policy to me.

  • Apple surpassed Microsoft now. Now they're the one in the screen and Microsoft is the chick with the sledge hammer.

  • Love all the comments about year 2010 idrones. So true. We are now drones looking at fictional vintage drones on a computer. This is the only 80's relic that needs a remake/spoof/commentary.

  • I'll never get over this irony, seriously my classes are filled with people that look like the drones in this video. I call them iDrones

  • @justnaesman half of the people in my class stare into their phones. wait....

i see a connection now, good observation.

  • IBM made computers to keep count of the deaths of the jews in nazi germany.

  • You're so full of shit it's not even funny.

  • why did that evil woman throw that hammer at my beloved big brother.

  • @laylowfreehumanity sexy :D

  • Why 1984 won't be like '1984'?

I wonder what George Orwell's wife would think of that.

  • they parodied this in Futerama for the planet express TV commercial.

  • this is the intro to gayness

  • gotta love the super bowl

  • They never stop complaining do they? First it's IBM, now it's Microsoft!

  • and apple itself i say too

  • WTF!!

  • i think the Big Brother in this video is IBM....but i'm not sure...

  • exactly: the big bro' in the spot rapresents IBM and it's supremacy (monopoly) in 1984.

  • The All seeing eye ;)

  • WHOA!!!!!

  • This advert just screams Scott

  • I didn't know Ridley Scott made this famous commercial. Brilliant!

  • it may not have been 1984 in 1984, but it is now

    big brother is watching you

  • was there a remake of 1984? cuz i just watched it and it didn't look like the version they are showing here..

also wow. this person is devoted to apple just a bit too much... I I I

    V

  • its an ad based on 1984's premise...Big Brother, mindless drones, etc. etc....strictly for apple tho not for the novel

  • Big brother+ Mindless drones, just like the show

  • I saw this ad in the year 1984 just after reading the book 1984 for the first time..It deserves all the praise.Combine this with Terry Gilliam's BRAZIL and you have Orwellian delight. I hope Mr. Scott is serious about making another Sci Fi film soon PLEASE PLEASE!

    and remember:

    WAR IS PEACE

    FREEDOM IS SLAVERY

    IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

  • @masseyHHVP Ridley Scott is planning to make two Alien Prequel films.

  • i....... dont get it

  • lmfao!!!!!

  • 1984 was a novel/movie based on the perceived future from the world war 2 era im pretty sure.

    it was pretty fucked up.

  • This is one hell of a change from putting a product on the screen in a white background with failing music in the background.

  • the funny thing: we are all iSHEEP now, much like those bald guys

  • OMG the did you say the new iphone just came out? GTG

  • @ShadowNINku Yep. You've got that one right.

  • This is really cool...

Has anybody seen the Futurama parody of this commercial? Had I seen this commercial before I saw that episode I would have died laughing XD

  • this is just like tokio hotel's video for ready, set, go

    weirdddd lol

  • in 1984 tokio hotel kids were not even sperm

  • ...and that´s the way they should stay.

  • jajaja

  • Yeah, trade in the Ministry of Love for the Cult of the Mac Zealot. Countless numbers of oppressive laws today were written on a Mac. Mac is a part of the oppressive machinery.

  • A lot of terrible, horrible laws were also briefly committed to post-it notes. Damn that Axis of Stationery.

  • Television Commercials have been my life, from 1967 to 2007 I edited TV 'spots' around the World. Many great ones. Some are in the Museum of Modern Art new York, One was voted one of the Best TV commercials ever in Australia. It was the equivalent of writing essays, which I do now. Commercials are a legitimate art form, good ones stand out, great ones, like 1984, stand the test of time. All religions aren't equal, nor is all advertising. It is simply part of the rich world in which we all live.

  • why is a hooters girl throwing a hammer at that big tv ??

  • aaah, art is wasted on the young and restless.

  • Comment removed

  • it's just like the Mr. Plow commercial with the snow globe...makes no sense

  • If you know what "1984" is, then yes, it makes plenty of sense.

  • I cannot wait him making Child 44!

  • Possibly the best commercial ever made. People shouldn't be so quick to damn commercials. They aren't always people cramming you with information and "forcing" you to buy their product. They can be a form of art too. Not all of them are artistically influenced, but the same can be said for movies, TV, and even books.

  • I personally disagree, commercials are an un-necessary evil.

"Advertising is the rattling of the stick in a swill bucket." as George Orwell so famously said.

  • Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

  • where all of the people watching the big tv screen supposed to be like IBM or something becuase i know thats when apple and IBM where fighting for computer dominence?

  • does it come with itunes too lol

  • can we afford to do commercials on this scale, just focus on good programming instead.

  • It would be great if the world worked that way. But marketing is a necessary evil. The superior technology doesn't always become the accepted standard. Examples: Betamax was better than VHS, 8 track tapes were better than micro cassettes, and the Mac OS was and still is better than Windows OS.

  • Actually there is no correlation between the success of these examples and marketing.

The 'better' product in all these cases lost out because a small difference in market share can explode exponentially into market domination through positive feedback. See Brian Arthur and "increasing returns", complexity theory, etc.

  • Correct, "market entry",i.e being the first to offer a product (and establish an ad hoc standard), gives a massive advantage against any future competing products, no matter how better or cheaper (or both) they are. See "Apple iPod" for instance!

  • Ridley Scott is a good director especially when he was in his prime.

  • I reckon! he is soooooooooooo cool, alien is my favourite movie ever and i loooooove blade runner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • anyway the spot is brilliant! I like scott

  • Funny how Apple is the very embodiment of conformity now... A complete turnaround from 1984. =P

    iMac/iPod/iPhone = Trendy Fascism.

  • so your one of those "im cool because im not trendy" type of people? the touch screen technology is going to change the way computers are made. but your an idiot, wtf would u know anyway.

  • zing is right on the money, i doubt anything you could say following your last statement would alter that, cheers

  • my intention is not to alter the minds of idiots.

  • wow, do you have to resort to simple put downs just because someone is stating their opinion in an open forum. you're not helping any kind of anti-fascism argument, thats for sure

  • yes, i have to resort to simple put downs because how can someone not comprehend what apple right now is doing revolutionary. Its like saying Edisons inventions was "eh, ok"

  • revolutionary? apple is all you know because it's mass produced.. the technologies they are using were not INVENTED by them, they are just marketting it more succesfully than anyone else at the moment. surely you're the idiot here :/

  • in other words, apple didn't invent the technology and can market better? thas all you could have said genius. The brilliance in Apple is that their are able to take current technologies and use them for everyday life without having it always break down. did you hear that big swoosh going over your head? that was my point passing you by, genius.

  • i think you missed the point here. He wasnt saying that apples technology was bad, he was just pointing out the irony of the ad. All he said was imac/ipod/iphone = trendy fascism and i must agree with him here. now that being said i believe that not only is it trendy fascism but its also revolutionary trendy fascism. i think when something is revolutionary it usually goes hand to hand with conformity.

  • What the fuck's all this trendy fascism bollocks ! It's an advert for a computer company .......that's all .

  • "imac/ipod/iphone = trendy fascism"

this ad was for a 1984 computer, one of the first to be realised. There were no ipods, no iphones. Ya should stop smoking

  • @zing1982 Yes and no. We more so conformed to Apple than they did to us. They still don't have a target market, they make what they think will work. Hence the iPad.

  • Apple = anarchy? no way....

apple, IBM and Microsoft are on the same side

    Linux is anarchy

  • haha, you fcking ladykiller,

  • linux is horrible

  • no at all man, linux IS user friendly. it's just a bit selective about WHO his friends are...

    LINUX RULEZ

  • what can you do with linux?

  • That's true. Apple is nothing better than MS. If they could they would dominate the world just like Microsoft does. But they don't have the monopol situation MS has.

  • creepy

  • this is one of the best commercials i have ever seen

this is an amazing advertising.. the producers and creaters were geniueses

  • GREAT

  • Why doesnt Linux come up and throw the hammer at Apple now?

  • It ran only once during the Super Bowl but still comes up as one of the best TV ads ever, and yet the commercial itself doesn't sell anything. You're intrigued enough to watch until the end when the narrator tells you about the new Macintosh. Madison Avenue gold, baby!

  • its obvious: the woman with personality throws a hammer at the big brother, which simbolyzes IBM.

they try to tell us that IBM is going to bring a computer-like, dark-sci-fi future to our world, just like george orwell's 1984, and mac will bring personality and good use for the computers.

its for me, the top of the most influencial ads list ever

  • MAC = Anarchy

Apple vs the illuminati... the mac as source of freedom. this ad means: buy a mac and i'll give you the tools to fight against the entire world...

    mAc4lIFe

  • this commercial is genius.

  • i dont get wats soooo awesome

  • YEAH! not bad...

  • just read that this is the most expensive add ever made. why??

  • Probably coz Ridley Scott directed it.

  • It was shown just once, during the Superbowl in 1984. Given the A-list director, props, staging, and cost per second for a Superbowl ad; it would be easy for this to be the most expensive.

  • 1984 will come in 2007 with talking CCTV, satellite-tracked road pricing and ID cards. UK customers only.

  • wtf mate?

  • the end part makes more sense if uve heard of the book 1984

  • This ad only ran once. It ran during the first half of the 1984 super bowl game. It never ran again. It was stunning to watch and I agree it was awesome, I know I was there and it was.

  • a link to Fox news and there are only 3594 hits?

  • ya, but its fox news.

  • sorry it's not bias, pro liberal cnn news.

  • haha, oohh man

  • 26,024

  • insanely great

  • awesome!!!!
