@SpokenVerse “A good poem is a contribution to reality. The world is never the same once a good poem has been added to it. A good poem helps to change the shape of the universe, helps to extend everyone's knowledge of himself and the world around him.”
I'm not sure how your latest comment comes up to scratch. But, as Thomas also wrote, “Poetry is not the most important thing in life... I'd much rather lie in a hot bath reading Agatha Christie and sucking sweets.”
@alifor9 You disagreed with my remark "It's more about how it makes you feel than what the words mean." So I quoted Dylan Thomas to support what I said, "Because the pleasure-bird whistles after the hot wires, shall the blind horse sing sweeter?"
Are you telling me that you don't know what it means?
@Bruno1238 It's the other guy who disagrees with my remark, "It's more about how it makes you feel than what the words mean." Why ask me to explain it?
@SpokenVerse No offence was intended! I was asking you to explain....."Because the pleasure-bird whistles after the hot wires, shall the blind horse sing sweeter?" That was my intention!
@SpokenVerse I don't get it either. I mean, I get the sight v.s. sound reference but the horse and bird being comparative? Also I disagree with your statement. Your valuing style over substance.
My favorite band "seether" made a tribute to this poem in a song. Its on my channel called "yeah", it captures the poem pretty good and brings it to life
a nice reading of this amazing poem. sure it is about how it makes you feel, but i believe that words matter a lot here. i know of no poet whose words are more evocative than dylan thomas' - i see your point though. thanks for sharing.
it's a beautiful poem

Thank you for posting this reading. But I disagree with you when you say that it is "more about how it makes you feel than what the words mean.".
You seem to say the same kind of thing about much of his poetry.
Dylan Thomas wrote a particular kind of poetry with particular imagery and use of language that might seem difficult to impart meaning to.
It's a pity that you missed that connection to the words. The feeling depends upon the words you hear. But first you must listen.

@DymlostheOni
You by the cavern over the black stairs,
Rung bone and blade, the verticals of Adam,
And, manned by midnight, Jacob to the stars.
Hairs of your head, then said the hollow agent,
Are but the roots of nettles and feathers
Over the groundowrks thrusting through a pavement
And hemlock-headed in the wood of weathers.
Good rhetorical style, not much substance, wouldn't you agree?
