Mr.Sproul does Alice Cooper share the gospel with people and his fans? You said he is a Christian. Will he share the gospel Tuesday night when he comes to Akron Ohio?
Alice aside, I'm a born again Christian who believes in and follows Jesus Christ with my whole heart. You've judged me as someone is going to hell. Do you remember Jesus saying, "Judge not lest ye yourself be judged?" I forgive you for those comments, but I think you should think about what you're doing before you continue.
I think Alice probably does more good for God's kingdom through the arts and through his outreach to troubled kids than people who criticize, condemn and pass judgment on others, in the name of the God who said, "Judge not, lest ye yourself be judged."
If you don't like what Alice is doing, I respect that. I also think that you should at least understand what he's doing before coming to a conclusion. I've been to his show lately, I'm aware of his faith, and I'm aware of the outreach program he started to help kids get out of drug addiction, gangs and the sex trade. I also know he occasionally fills in as a Bible teacher at his church. The fact that he plays a villain in a musical production sits just fine with me.
@TCMAO0 You know, the legalistic religious leaders of Jesus time, accused him of being Satanic. They did this because he wouldn't follow all of their religious traditions. He pointed out that all of their rules were actually of human origin, not divine. He warned them not to be judgmental and cautioned them against hypocrisy.
I think Alice is very clear that he is putting on Rock Theatre. His show involves nothing remotely related to Satanism and he once took issue with Marilyn Manson for destroying Bible's on stage. He has also stopped singing songs with lyrics that promote real-life destructive behaviour. I simply think you are commenting about something you haven't looked into thoroughly. And, yes, I think God works in and through the arts, so I think he cares about them very much.
Also, Alice lyrics talk about the bad things he did in real life, and the hell he went through because of it. The message is clearly a warning from someone who has been there, and learned his lesson the hard way. Additionally, he has written a number of songs on recent albums that openly share his faith in God, and how this has been beneficial to him. Perhaps you were unaware of this, and are commenting in ignorance?
Heh, great interview. Btw, Alice puts his faith and his show together like this. His show is a morality play, and Alice is the villain in the piece. It's like asking whether or not the guy who plays Darth Vader could be a Christian. Of course he could, he's acting. Alice is doing theatre, it happens to have positive messages, and he chooses not to perform songs or parts of songs that have lyrics that encourage self-destructive behaviour.
Exactly! As a porn star, I'm just acting. I'm heterosexual in real life but suck cock on film...it's just an act, you see. Bullshit! If you act like a devil for show, you better question yourself because you can believe that God is going to not appreciate it!
@mypalrocco Since I've been a therapist for a number of people in the industry you refer to, I'm aware that they do not simulate sexual behaviour. It is, in fact, real. It can also take an incredible toll on them emotionally. Alice, on the other hand, is a fictional character who pretends to behave badly. They then pretend to punish him for this. It is like the actor who plays Saruman in the Lord of the Rings. He is not really an evil sorcerer you know.
So, by that rationale, it's completely possible for, say, Marilyn Manson to be a Christian in the true sense of the word Christian? Or how about all the rock bands and musicians that use Satanic imagery like an inverted pentagram and goats head? Is it possible that they're true Christians and that they are just putting on a show? Do you think Christ takes into consideration those who are just emulating evil acts for purposes of entertainment? You think He gives a damn abt showbiz?
@mypalrocco It's one thing to portray evil, it's completely another to engage yourself in it and indulge in it. I've never seen Alice Cooper play live, but he's not even remotely close to what Marylin Manson is. Again, I'm not sure what the true state of Cooper's faith is, but the comparisons you make do not equivocate.
@mypalrocco Perhaps you should listen to some of his interviews about his faith, you'll see his explanation for his act. He clearly states in one of his interviews (the link is in the sidebar to this video) rock and roll at the time of his coming in to fame had no villains, so he did his portrayal of a villain and his songs carried many themes of choosing good over evil. He admits he wasn't always a Christian, but it his maccabe was always just an act and always expressed good over evil themes
Sexual relations with a dead woman "Cold Ethel" is a good over evil theme??? Have you ever listened to his music? He's being less than honest with himself if he thinks he's had good over evil themes!
Listen, it doesn't matter what either of us thinks. I just have to wonder if God thinks that "pretending" to be evil is okay, the fact that the world thought Alice Cooper was evil. Did it help bring people to Christ which is the most important thing.
@mypalrocco Again I say, it is an act. However, you bring a valid point that I do agree with, and that is it bringing people to Christ. I'm not completely certain this and would side with your arguement in that case. However I do think that as important as it is to portray what is good in an accurate fashion, it is also important that evil is portrayed accurately is well if it must be done in a story for example. I think a Christian could be in the role of portraying evil, but only if its done
By the very virtue of living a Christian life we bring others to Christ.
Why is my life, marriage, etc. good? Because I try to live a Christian life. When people comment on my life I tell them that that is the exact reason why. I know Mr. Cooper to do the same thing, as he's done it with me a couple of times. His music brings people to him and by the very virtue of being Christian Alice brings people to Christ.
The answer to that question shouldn't have been hard.
@thegirl44 I agree with everything you say for the most part. However, I was only trying to raise a response to the fellow posters comments. Looking back through my comments at the time I realize their were weaknesses in my argument. However, as a fellow a Christian I don't understand the condesention in you last comment if it was meant as such.
I apologize if my last comment came off as condescending, I didn't mean for it to be so but now that I reread I see how it could be interpreted that way.
What I meant was, when Jesus told us to speak to the masses I believe that he actually meant for us to SPEAK to them. To learn how to use their lexicon and means of communication to evangelize. Music speaks the people's language. I think that separating "Christian" music from secular music limits the message.
@thegirl44 It's no worries. I agree completely with everything you say. People so easily forget that Jesus went among the prostitutes and the lepers with his teaching, not just those who were already saved. God places his people in many different areas, even in heavy metal music like with Alice Cooper, to do his will. God Bless you girl44!
@haaakkkk2010 Oh I see. Maybe there are murders for hire for Jesus, too. You know you have to give people some slack. Maybe they witness to the police after they are arrested. Unbelievable the things so-called Christians say. Get behind me, Satan!
@TCMAO0 Well the problem is that you're equating playing a part in a theatre production with outright murder. Alice isn't guilty of murder, or of breaking any of God's commandments for that matter. In fact, during his last show, he sang a song about how his old lifestyle was taking him to hell . At the end of one of his other songs he called out "repent" to the audience. He no longer performs the few songs that contradict his faith, and helps street kids get off of drugs.
@TCMAO0 So you equate someone like Alice Cooper to a murderer, when he is clearly no different than the actor that portrays a murderer in a movie. If you listen to some of his interviews, he admits that there were times that his faith had floundered. But he's never endorsed murder. You should listen to his testimony, it is very enlightening. The very fact that we're talking about his faith is a result of God and his providence leading people to Christ through Alice's unique profession.
@TCMAO0 I'm not sure if you are trying to argue from a Christian stance. Just because he doesn't sing gospel music doesn't make a non-Christian. Instead, it must be remembered that the providence of God placed him in this position to give his testimony. Remember, when Christ came he didn't mingle with the Holy men (the pharisees), but with those who needed saving. His act is nothing to be concerned with, since that is all he is doing. Acting, not actually induldging in crime.
Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God 3 John 11
Acting and imitating evil are condemned as an abomination! Repent!
@TCMAO0 First, there is a distinction between portraying something and imitating something. To imitate is to actually follow the example and behave like those that are evil. To portray something is to play the role of it. Alice Cooper is only a portrayal of evil. But I agree in that if you're going to portray evil it must be in a manner that is truthful and makes it appear as it truly is. I've only listened to some of Alice's songs, one of which called "Poison". Its basically about temptation
@haaakkkk2010 You'd probably enjoy songs like "Salvation" and "Cleansed by Fire" as well. The musical style is all Alice, and the words are gospel. It's good stuff. He has excellent spiritual themes on the albums "The Last Temptation" and "Brutal Planet." His theatre productions portray evil as destructive and seductive. They demonstrate that evil always faces a day of reckoning, and he point towards redemption. Anyone criticizing this probably has no idea what they're talking about.
@Arc333Angel Thank you for shedding some light on this subject for me. I suspected such things were true, but I'm glad that someone who was more familiar with his music could inform me. I have also read some of your comments, and I'm impressed by the points you make. Thanks again!
@haaakkkk2010 Pleasure dialoguing with you. Feel free to visit my channel if you like. I have some of Alice' songs there, along with some interviews where he talks about his faith ^_^. Blackie Lawless from WASP has a similar story to Alice. They both rediscovered their faith later in life after the drugs, sex and rock'n roll scene left them empty, addicted and dying...like I was before I accepted the love, forgiveness and transformation that Jesus offers. I'm still changing, and loving it :)
@Arc333Angel I will look at it sometime for sure! Awesome story about your life as well. It's always encouraging to meet another brother in Christ straining towards the goal. Keep it up mate :)
@TCMAO0 and trying to resist it. I've also listened to interviews of Alice Cooper and he's very different from his stage act. He appears to hold very sound views of Christianity. I am hesitant to just condemn him as evil because of a stage act. He could very well be a Christian, which would make it wrong for me to condemn him as evil (Romans 14:1). As for the strength of his faith I am uncertain since I have never met him. His career as a heavy metal singer is not one that I would choose, but
@TCMAO0 but just bcause is is a heavy metal singer doesn't make him not a Christian, or his songs necessarily bad. He claims to have rediscovered his faith in Christ later in his career, and as a result he cleaned his life up and quit doing drugs, his sexual promiscuity, etc. Romans 14 makes it clear that judging a brothers faith based on the lack of strength in it is very wrong. I'm not sure of his strength, I would have to know personally. All I am saying is that portraying evil is not wrong,
@TCMAO0 but it takes a lot of wisdom and guidance from the Holy Spirit to do so in a truthful and accurate manner. I would also caution you to be wise when you are condemn other Christians as non-Christians, read Romans 14 to see of what I mention. All I am saying in my defense of Cooper is that we cannot be sure of the true state of his faith. But judging by how his life has turned around after his faith was reignited, there are signs that his faith is alive.
@TCMAO0 I think your comment here explains a lot. The verse is saying don't imitate evil, in the sense that we are not to see people doing evil and then follow their example. E.G. if I see people robbing jewelry stores, I'm not supposed to imitate that behaviour. You seem to wrongly confuse this with theatre, movies etc.. In all movies that tell the gospel story, for example, someone has to play the part of Judas Iscariot. Whoever does that is helping communicate the message of salvation.
@haaakkkk2010 I don't think that Alice is evil or anything, I just wanted to point something out about this comment...you said that Jesus went among the lepers and prostitutes, but he never actively participated (let alone got onstage and led them) in their sin. He came to convict them of it and turn them from it, not to encourage and spur them on with images of death and darkness...
...that said though, I think Alice Cooper is good clean fun and at heart he's a great guy.
Welcome to My Nightmare was a concept album. "Cold Ethel" is a song about a NIGHTMARE. The most terrible things that you could dream like fucking a dead woman or being stuck in your childhood or in that exact moment of time when you lost a loved one.
If you think that "Cold Ethyl" was celebrating necrophilia that is YOUR own twisted mind.
Did he bring people to Christ? If he didn't make music, I never would have worked for him and probably wouldn't be Christian, now.
Yes, I am. The bible only says to not take the Lord's name in vain. On the matter of colloquial swearing; the day that someone shows me the theology that states that it offends the Lord, I'll stop.
Funny how I knew that you would be the type to use my spicy language as an excuse to not debate my point...because you can't.
@mypalrocco in his music. After watching his interviews my opinion of his faith has changed and comparing his "act" to that of pornstars is disgusting. You, my friend, are the one spewing nonsensical statements.
I think bashing on RC Sproul about his golfing abilitiy is silly.Unlesss you know the guy up close and personal I assume there's no need in assuming you have him all figured out .It's exceedingly easy to be critical ..I have it almost down to a science .the bible says avoid / shun those in the church who are critical..it doesn't mention walking in a field and hitting a white ball.
He warned the Pharisees not to add a torturous list of dos and don'ts to God's requirements which are simply: love God, and love your neighbour as yourself.
You think golfing while billions are rushing into hell is love? If there is a fire in the building next door and I decide to go golfing instead of help that is being loving?
If you get you example from R.C. Sproul you are misguided and think an impractical theology which does not involve true sacrifice is how we obtain heaven.
There is a reason all the men at the lead of all great past revivals were not sports enthusiasts....
@Arc333Angel Loving God is painful and loving your neighbor is impossible if you love yourself more.
Explain to me how golfing is not just blind self pleasure that does nothing for our neighbors or God?
Explain to me how you can become a near professional (R.C. Sproul) which takes a ridiculous amount of time and still reconcile that with loving your neighbor and God with ALL your strength?
R.C. obviously talks more than he prays and actually believes the Bible is the WORD.
@Icannottolerateit Knowing God's love for me is actually a wonderful experience. Since I've accepted his love, I find myself wanting to return it, and share it with others. Tbh, I don't find this painful, even if it involves sacrifice at times. You can search the Bible if you like, but nowhere are we called to forsake everything enjoyable in life. James says all good things come from God; and I think he's pleased when we enjoy them. We simply must give up things that contradict love.
@Arc333Angel And anything standing between you and more time with Christ does not do just that?
So you are arguing that golf is just as important as prayer....That is what you are suggesting.
You just want to give God a small portion of yourself, not your whole personality and life.
As it stands prayer is vastly more important than petty hobbies. If R.C. Sproul spent as much time in prayer as he did on the golf course he might have had some sort of impact on the Church by now....
@Icannottolerateit Nope, you're passing judgment on me without knowing me, and making incorrect assumptions. Jesus has all of me and is the most important person in my life. He loves me and I love him. He loves me like I love my children. I give them good gifts to enjoy. God does likewise for his children. Ever see Chariots of fire? The hero said, "when I run, I feel God's pleasure." His running and faith went hand in hand. He didn't have to give up running. It was part of God's plan.
Full consecration means denying ourselves the pleasure of hobbies.
You will notice Paul never mentions hobbies.
Is gold inherently wrong? YES! Going to take a few swings while the world burns around you is far worse than going to play a round of golf while your neighbors burn up in their home.
is this a joke?! if not, why are you on youtube telling us this, instead of evangelising? (in fact, you better not sleep more than 2 hours a day. anything more could be spent evangelising.)
of course, i'm being facetious. but if you ARE being serious, then your logic is legalistic and definitely bites you back on the bottom.
paul never mentions hobbies, no, but then why on earth would he? he didn't write about going to the toilet either, it doesn't mean we shouldn't.
@NathanLPaylor You lay too much emphasis to evangelizing.
Were all called to preach? No. Were all called to pray? Yes.
Prayer is that which is essential . Today's "Christian" believes preaching is somehow the greatest thing a man can do, when that is hardly the case. "PRAY without ceasing"
I can tell if a man spends more time on his hobbies than his prayer life. Evan Roberts spent more time in prayer than he did doing anything else. How can I tell?
That means DENY yourself the pleasure of your hobbies. That means DENY yourself pleasure in the name of edifying and aiding the church.
Using the toilet is ESSENTIAL to a healthy and therefore useful life. Sleep is ESSENTIAL to a healthy and therefore useful life.
Show me where Paul took part in the sporting events of his day. Show me where he spent time reading Greek philosophy after his conversion. "To know ONLY Christ"
@Icannottolerateit Nah, you're not supposed to deny yourself pleasure. You're supposed to deny yourself pleasure at someone else's expense. If you think pleasure is bad, read the Song of Solomon. The pleasure is mutual, and it's enjoyed in a loving context. Pleasure is only a problem if it becomes your god, your number one priority in life. E.g. if it feels good do it, no matter who gets hurt.
@Arc333Angel You must have forgotten the fact that billions are going to hell at this very moment and a casual game of golf as opposed to praying for their souls IS HATE.
Pointless pleasure which does not edify is in direct opposition to the cross.
I am not saying all pleasure is bad, but brain dead entertainment (golf) is.
The fact is hobbies are WORTHLESS and do NOTHING to aid the Kingdom. If you think God will frown on you for sacrificing hobbies in his name you are a demon.
@Icannottolerateit No, playing Golf isn't hate. Remember, we're to love our neighbours AS ourselves. This presumes we're kind to ourselves. Jesus whole life was not spent on a cross. Like him, we need to be willing to do God's will, out of love, even if it hurts. This, however, does not mean that he wants us to torture ourselves or refuse to enjoy the good things he gives us. Your tone sounds kind of condemning. Is that a reflection of Jesus' love do you think?
@Arc333Angel You are an enemy of the cross. You think the cross is a momentary thing, but the cross is something we are to carry EVERY MOMENT.
I doubt anyone's faith that does not pray at least a few hours everyday. Daniel prayed 6 times a day. David prayed 7 times a day. Elijah never stopped praying. Christ spent entire nights in prayer.
R.C. golfs more than he prays apparently, because he is hardly a professional prayer but is a master of golf.
@Icannottolerateit If time management is your primary concern. I have to wonder about the amount of time you spend on the internet calling other Christians liars, demons, and enemies of the cross? Do you see this as somehow communicating Christ's message of love and forgiveness to a lost world? I think you've been led on quite a tangent. It probably keeps you away from more meaningful activities, and it seems to be turning you bitter.
@Icannottolerateit Jesus spent time with sinners feasting and drinking wine. He also turned the Pharisee's ceremonial water into wine for people to enjoy at a wedding. Because he allowed himself these pleasures and didn't go around fasting all the time, the Pharisees accused him of having a demon. If you accuse me of being a demon for enjoying God's goodness, you've just lumped me in with Jesus. I can accept that. And yes, I've carried my cross at times too.
@Arc333Angel Yet you have forgotten that Christ said that his disciples would fast in good time.....I like how you removed the last part of those statements......
I could explain to you how God's temple is currently in disrepair and why it is now the time of fasting but you would not understand. I could draw parallels with this time and Zerubabbel's time but you would not understand.
I could sit here and tell you that prayer is more important than your stupid hobbies but you would not take it
@Arc333Angel No....Song of Solomon is about the Church....Perhaps I need to explain how everything in the Old Testament is a parallel for either Christ or his Bride.....I thought that was Bible 101.
That is a very rudimentary understanding of Songs of Solomon....In fact that is so basic as to not even be fit for children service. (Although any reasonable Church does not separate children from adults, as that is not Biblical)
@Arc333Angel You do not understand Song of Solomon.....That is Christ talking to his Bride, the Church. That is obvious......
Learning golf to the point of becoming a professional is not a problem? When you "preach" more than you pray in Church I already know you understand absolutely nothing about the function of the church.
@Icannottolerateit It's a poem about the pleasures of sexual love between King Solomon and his wife, hence the title: Song of Solomon. Centuries later it was used as a metaphor for the love relationship that Jesus has with his church. The church is to be an expression of the love of Christ. We are his hands and feet so to speak. I happen to enjoy playing guitar. It's a hobby. It's also a gift. While playing with others, I share Christ's love. My hobby and my faith go hand in hand.
@Icannottolerateit don't all our gifts come from God? all our talents? all our skills? doesn't the Bible teach about doing everything to the best of our abilities. now yes you dont spend all day golfing and completely blow off God. But its ok to go golfing. to enjoy God's wonderful creation and using the talents he gave us. Remember the parable of the talents.. now yes thats a unit of money but it can also mean actual talents. Don't hide your talents like the third man did, use them to further
@urworstnightmare22 There is obviously a difference between spiritual gifts (like prophecy) and physical gifts (like fast legs or something).....
Golf is not exactly a "talent". You clearly misunderstand "pick up your cross" nor have any idea what FULL consecration means. That means no longer giving your time up for ANYTHING not related to God. God will fault you for sacrificing hobbies?
Give me some of Christ's hobbies. Give me some of Paul's hobbies. Please, I dare you to even try.
@urworstnightmare22 That is NOT talking about physical talents, sorry. In the Kingdom of God ALL that matters are spiritual fruits and gifts, not physical ANYTHING.
Paul was a genius, but did he spend his time with Greek philosophy AFTER conversion? No.....
@urworstnightmare22 Picking up the cross means PAIN. That NECESSARILY involves giving up things we find pleasure in that are not necessary for the futherance of the Gospel.
Now call me legalistic all you want but you will not find Moses or Elijah doing much else besides praying...
Christ did not exactly attend Olympic type events, did he? If he did he was there for purposes of the Gospel, not pleasure.
@Icannottolerateit Your religion sounds like torture. All of the activities enjoyed by Christ's followers are not included in the Bible, only those things that relate to our salvation and spiritual growth. Assuming that people only did what is written, is making a very large error in logic. E.G. Show me in the Bible where Paul used the restroom. It's not there. This does not mean he gave up peeing once he chose to serve Christ. Jesus said, "my burden is light" to his followers.
"Be honest R.C., it's one of the commandments."

I think a Christian could be in the role of portraying evil, but only if its done
haaakkkk2010 1 year ago
@haaakkkk2010
The answer to that question shouldn't have been hard.
thegirl44 1 year ago
@thegirl44 I agree with everything you say for the most part. However, I was only trying to raise a response to the fellow posters comments. Looking back through my comments at the time I realize their were weaknesses in my argument. However, as a fellow a Christian I don't understand the condesention in you last comment if it was meant as such.
haaakkkk2010 1 year ago
@haaakkkk2010
It's just music.
thegirl44 1 year ago
@thegirl44 It's no worries. I agree completely with everything you say. People so easily forget that Jesus went among the prostitutes and the lepers with his teaching, not just those who were already saved. God places his people in many different areas, even in heavy metal music like with Alice Cooper, to do his will. God Bless you girl44!

@haaakkkk2010 Oh I see. Maybe there are murders for hire for Jesus, too. You know you have to give people some slack. Maybe they witness to the police after they are arrested. Unbelievable the things so-called Christians say. Get behind me, Satan!
TCMAO0 1 year ago
@TCMAO0 Well the problem is that you're equating playing a part in a theatre production with outright murder. Alice isn't guilty of murder, or of breaking any of God's commandments for that matter. In fact, during his last show, he sang a song about how his old lifestyle was taking him to hell . At the end of one of his other songs he called out "repent" to the audience. He no longer performs the few songs that contradict his faith, and helps street kids get off of drugs.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel So what a Mormon could do all that and they are going to hell themselves if they don't renounce their idolatry! Alice is a wolf!
TCMAO0 1 year ago
@TCMAO0 So you equate someone like Alice Cooper to a murderer, when he is clearly no different than the actor that portrays a murderer in a movie. If you listen to some of his interviews, he admits that there were times that his faith had floundered. But he's never endorsed murder. You should listen to his testimony, it is very enlightening. The very fact that we're talking about his faith is a result of God and his providence leading people to Christ through Alice's unique profession.
haaakkkk2010 1 year ago
@haaakkkk2010 No. The reason we are talking about it is that I have declared him and you to be promoting evil! REPENT! You need to read 1 John 2:15
TCMAO0 1 year ago
@TCMAO0 I'm not sure if you are trying to argue from a Christian stance. Just because he doesn't sing gospel music doesn't make a non-Christian. Instead, it must be remembered that the providence of God placed him in this position to give his testimony. Remember, when Christ came he didn't mingle with the Holy men (the pharisees), but with those who needed saving. His act is nothing to be concerned with, since that is all he is doing. Acting, not actually induldging in crime.
haaakkkk2010 1 year ago
@haaakkkk2010 Read this verse and repent!
Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God 3 John 11
Acting and imitating evil are condemned as an abomination! Repent!
Also, see Eph. 4:29
TCMAO0 1 year ago
@TCMAO0 First, there is a distinction between portraying something and imitating something. To imitate is to actually follow the example and behave like those that are evil. To portray something is to play the role of it. Alice Cooper is only a portrayal of evil. But I agree in that if you're going to portray evil it must be in a manner that is truthful and makes it appear as it truly is. I've only listened to some of Alice's songs, one of which called "Poison". Its basically about temptation
haaakkkk2010 1 year ago
@haaakkkk2010 You'd probably enjoy songs like "Salvation" and "Cleansed by Fire" as well. The musical style is all Alice, and the words are gospel. It's good stuff. He has excellent spiritual themes on the albums "The Last Temptation" and "Brutal Planet." His theatre productions portray evil as destructive and seductive. They demonstrate that evil always faces a day of reckoning, and he point towards redemption. Anyone criticizing this probably has no idea what they're talking about.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago

Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@TCMAO0 and trying to resist it. I've also listened to interviews of Alice Cooper and he's very different from his stage act. He appears to hold very sound views of Christianity. I am hesitant to just condemn him as evil because of a stage act. He could very well be a Christian, which would make it wrong for me to condemn him as evil (Romans 14:1). As for the strength of his faith I am uncertain since I have never met him. His career as a heavy metal singer is not one that I would choose, but
haaakkkk2010 1 year ago
@TCMAO0 but just bcause is is a heavy metal singer doesn't make him not a Christian, or his songs necessarily bad. He claims to have rediscovered his faith in Christ later in his career, and as a result he cleaned his life up and quit doing drugs, his sexual promiscuity, etc. Romans 14 makes it clear that judging a brothers faith based on the lack of strength in it is very wrong. I'm not sure of his strength, I would have to know personally. All I am saying is that portraying evil is not wrong,
haaakkkk2010 1 year ago
@TCMAO0 but it takes a lot of wisdom and guidance from the Holy Spirit to do so in a truthful and accurate manner. I would also caution you to be wise when you are condemn other Christians as non-Christians, read Romans 14 to see of what I mention. All I am saying in my defense of Cooper is that we cannot be sure of the true state of his faith. But judging by how his life has turned around after his faith was reignited, there are signs that his faith is alive.
haaakkkk2010 1 year ago
@TCMAO0 I think your comment here explains a lot. The verse is saying don't imitate evil, in the sense that we are not to see people doing evil and then follow their example. E.G. if I see people robbing jewelry stores, I'm not supposed to imitate that behaviour. You seem to wrongly confuse this with theatre, movies etc.. In all movies that tell the gospel story, for example, someone has to play the part of Judas Iscariot. Whoever does that is helping communicate the message of salvation.

He came to convict them of it and turn them from it, not to encourage and spur them on with images of death and darkness...
...that said though, I think Alice Cooper is good clean fun and at heart he's a great guy.

If you think that "Cold Ethyl" was celebrating necrophilia that is YOUR own twisted mind.
Did he bring people to Christ? If he didn't make music, I never would have worked for him and probably wouldn't be Christian, now.

He warned the Pharisees not to add a torturous list of dos and don'ts to God's requirements which are simply: love God, and love your neighbour as yourself.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel Who made a list?
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel What part of pick up your cross is NOT torture?
Yes, Christ was having a blast when he was picking up his cross.
Yes, Christ was called the man of happiness as opposed to the man of sorrow.
Yes, Christ laughed more than he cried.
Yes, Christ sat around telling jokes more than he prayed.
Yes, Christ was not serious when he said "Love God with ALL your strength" which obviously eliminates any activity NOT contributing to his kingdom.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel Loving God is painful and loving your neighbor is impossible if you love yourself more.
Explain to me how golfing is not just blind self pleasure that does nothing for our neighbors or God?
Explain to me how you can become a near professional (R.C. Sproul) which takes a ridiculous amount of time and still reconcile that with loving your neighbor and God with ALL your strength?
R.C. obviously talks more than he prays and actually believes the Bible is the WORD.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Knowing God's love for me is actually a wonderful experience. Since I've accepted his love, I find myself wanting to return it, and share it with others. Tbh, I don't find this painful, even if it involves sacrifice at times. You can search the Bible if you like, but nowhere are we called to forsake everything enjoyable in life. James says all good things come from God; and I think he's pleased when we enjoy them. We simply must give up things that contradict love.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel And anything standing between you and more time with Christ does not do just that?
So you are arguing that golf is just as important as prayer....That is what you are suggesting.
You just want to give God a small portion of yourself, not your whole personality and life.
As it stands prayer is vastly more important than petty hobbies. If R.C. Sproul spent as much time in prayer as he did on the golf course he might have had some sort of impact on the Church by now....
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Nope, you're passing judgment on me without knowing me, and making incorrect assumptions. Jesus has all of me and is the most important person in my life. He loves me and I love him. He loves me like I love my children. I give them good gifts to enjoy. God does likewise for his children. Ever see Chariots of fire? The hero said, "when I run, I feel God's pleasure." His running and faith went hand in hand. He didn't have to give up running. It was part of God's plan.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel Christ did not spend his life on a cross?
Why did he say "Pick up your cross DAILY"? You have no idea what that even means.
Christ was at those parties in order to preach the Gospel.....Is R.C. playing golf to that end? Are you going to entertain that idea?
Infants are incapable of digesting meat.....and the meat of the Gospel is "hating yourself" and "dieing daily".
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
Golf buddy?
Full consecration means denying ourselves the pleasure of hobbies.
You will notice Paul never mentions hobbies.
Is gold inherently wrong? YES! Going to take a few swings while the world burns around you is far worse than going to play a round of golf while your neighbors burn up in their home.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit
is this a joke?! if not, why are you on youtube telling us this, instead of evangelising? (in fact, you better not sleep more than 2 hours a day. anything more could be spent evangelising.)
of course, i'm being facetious. but if you ARE being serious, then your logic is legalistic and definitely bites you back on the bottom.
paul never mentions hobbies, no, but then why on earth would he? he didn't write about going to the toilet either, it doesn't mean we shouldn't.
NathanLPaylor 1 year ago
@NathanLPaylor You lay too much emphasis to evangelizing.
Were all called to preach? No. Were all called to pray? Yes.
Prayer is that which is essential . Today's "Christian" believes preaching is somehow the greatest thing a man can do, when that is hardly the case. "PRAY without ceasing"
I can tell if a man spends more time on his hobbies than his prayer life. Evan Roberts spent more time in prayer than he did doing anything else. How can I tell?
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@NathanLPaylor "Pick up your cross and DENY yourself"
That means DENY yourself the pleasure of your hobbies. That means DENY yourself pleasure in the name of edifying and aiding the church.
Using the toilet is ESSENTIAL to a healthy and therefore useful life. Sleep is ESSENTIAL to a healthy and therefore useful life.
Show me where Paul took part in the sporting events of his day. Show me where he spent time reading Greek philosophy after his conversion. "To know ONLY Christ"
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Nah, you're not supposed to deny yourself pleasure. You're supposed to deny yourself pleasure at someone else's expense. If you think pleasure is bad, read the Song of Solomon. The pleasure is mutual, and it's enjoyed in a loving context. Pleasure is only a problem if it becomes your god, your number one priority in life. E.g. if it feels good do it, no matter who gets hurt.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel You must have forgotten the fact that billions are going to hell at this very moment and a casual game of golf as opposed to praying for their souls IS HATE.
Pointless pleasure which does not edify is in direct opposition to the cross.
I am not saying all pleasure is bad, but brain dead entertainment (golf) is.
The fact is hobbies are WORTHLESS and do NOTHING to aid the Kingdom. If you think God will frown on you for sacrificing hobbies in his name you are a demon.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit No, playing Golf isn't hate. Remember, we're to love our neighbours AS ourselves. This presumes we're kind to ourselves. Jesus whole life was not spent on a cross. Like him, we need to be willing to do God's will, out of love, even if it hurts. This, however, does not mean that he wants us to torture ourselves or refuse to enjoy the good things he gives us. Your tone sounds kind of condemning. Is that a reflection of Jesus' love do you think?
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel You are an enemy of the cross. You think the cross is a momentary thing, but the cross is something we are to carry EVERY MOMENT.
I doubt anyone's faith that does not pray at least a few hours everyday. Daniel prayed 6 times a day. David prayed 7 times a day. Elijah never stopped praying. Christ spent entire nights in prayer.
R.C. golfs more than he prays apparently, because he is hardly a professional prayer but is a master of golf.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel In the end I will be rewarded for sacrificing my hobbies on the altar in order to pray more and have communion with his saints more.
Defend your time wasting all that you want but God is not going to give you bonus points for "enjoying" yourself here just for the sake of pleasure.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit If time management is your primary concern. I have to wonder about the amount of time you spend on the internet calling other Christians liars, demons, and enemies of the cross? Do you see this as somehow communicating Christ's message of love and forgiveness to a lost world? I think you've been led on quite a tangent. It probably keeps you away from more meaningful activities, and it seems to be turning you bitter.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Jesus spent time with sinners feasting and drinking wine. He also turned the Pharisee's ceremonial water into wine for people to enjoy at a wedding. Because he allowed himself these pleasures and didn't go around fasting all the time, the Pharisees accused him of having a demon. If you accuse me of being a demon for enjoying God's goodness, you've just lumped me in with Jesus. I can accept that. And yes, I've carried my cross at times too.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel Yet you have forgotten that Christ said that his disciples would fast in good time.....I like how you removed the last part of those statements......
I could explain to you how God's temple is currently in disrepair and why it is now the time of fasting but you would not understand. I could draw parallels with this time and Zerubabbel's time but you would not understand.
I could sit here and tell you that prayer is more important than your stupid hobbies but you would not take it
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel No....Song of Solomon is about the Church....Perhaps I need to explain how everything in the Old Testament is a parallel for either Christ or his Bride.....I thought that was Bible 101.
That is a very rudimentary understanding of Songs of Solomon....In fact that is so basic as to not even be fit for children service. (Although any reasonable Church does not separate children from adults, as that is not Biblical)
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel You do not understand Song of Solomon.....That is Christ talking to his Bride, the Church. That is obvious......
Learning golf to the point of becoming a professional is not a problem? When you "preach" more than you pray in Church I already know you understand absolutely nothing about the function of the church.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit It's a poem about the pleasures of sexual love between King Solomon and his wife, hence the title: Song of Solomon. Centuries later it was used as a metaphor for the love relationship that Jesus has with his church. The church is to be an expression of the love of Christ. We are his hands and feet so to speak. I happen to enjoy playing guitar. It's a hobby. It's also a gift. While playing with others, I share Christ's love. My hobby and my faith go hand in hand.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@NathanLPaylor Actually Christ DID spend entire nights (meaning without sleep at all) in prayer.
We just need to ask ourselves some simple questions.
Are we to emulate Christ?
Did Christ read secular works?
Did Christ spend more time praying than anything else?
Did Christ enjoy sports?
Did Christ enjoy music?
He COULD have but he chose to SACRIFICE temporal pleasures and hobbies.
Am I saying you are wrong for enjoying hobbies? No, it is not a sin.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit don't all our gifts come from God? all our talents? all our skills? doesn't the Bible teach about doing everything to the best of our abilities. now yes you dont spend all day golfing and completely blow off God. But its ok to go golfing. to enjoy God's wonderful creation and using the talents he gave us. Remember the parable of the talents.. now yes thats a unit of money but it can also mean actual talents. Don't hide your talents like the third man did, use them to further
urworstnightmare22 1 year ago
@urworstnightmare22 There is obviously a difference between spiritual gifts (like prophecy) and physical gifts (like fast legs or something).....
Golf is not exactly a "talent". You clearly misunderstand "pick up your cross" nor have any idea what FULL consecration means. That means no longer giving your time up for ANYTHING not related to God. God will fault you for sacrificing hobbies?
Give me some of Christ's hobbies. Give me some of Paul's hobbies. Please, I dare you to even try.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@urworstnightmare22 That is NOT talking about physical talents, sorry. In the Kingdom of God ALL that matters are spiritual fruits and gifts, not physical ANYTHING.
Paul was a genius, but did he spend his time with Greek philosophy AFTER conversion? No.....
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit God's kingdom
urworstnightmare22 1 year ago
@urworstnightmare22 Picking up the cross means PAIN. That NECESSARILY involves giving up things we find pleasure in that are not necessary for the futherance of the Gospel.
Now call me legalistic all you want but you will not find Moses or Elijah doing much else besides praying...
Christ did not exactly attend Olympic type events, did he? If he did he was there for purposes of the Gospel, not pleasure.
You are justifying the avoidance of the cross.
Icannottolerateit 1 year ago
@Icannottolerateit Your religion sounds like torture. All of the activities enjoyed by Christ's followers are not included in the Bible, only those things that relate to our salvation and spiritual growth. Assuming that people only did what is written, is making a very large error in logic. E.G. Show me in the Bible where Paul used the restroom. It's not there. This does not mean he gave up peeing once he chose to serve Christ. Jesus said, "my burden is light" to his followers.
Arc333Angel 1 year ago
@Arc333Angel Christ's life was torture......Or did you miss the part about the cross and how that is foundation in the life of a Christian?
You are defending people wasting time doing petty hobbies unrelated to edifying the Church.
Using the bathroom condones a healthy life and is essential to living in general. Golfing is not.
That fact is R.C. Sproul is no Evan Roberts, that is because Evan Roberts gave up his hobbies to pray. R.C. has started NO revival.
