Larry has a great start on this filly. She's light and supple with a soft face and rounded back for stops and backing. Two-year olds are ridden for short periods of time of soft surfaces with reasonable expectations (like this one). It's good to start them at 2, they're able to retain their training mentally for 3-year old expectations when their body matures. (Futurity horses are another story). (My horse was started at 6 1/2 years - I don't recommend it, but I didn't own him earlier).
Very nice video, thank you. Shows a filly that is obviously getting a horse-friendly training. How many days a week are you training a young horse usually?
I assume this horse is bred for reining, cowhorse, cutting etc. . Would you say this is an exceptional filly or pretty typical of your everyday results? If you were training a mustang for example would you expect these same results in that approximate amount of time? Have you had well bred horses that did not progress as rapidly as this filly?
@XxMadz007 **I have a trainer help me who has had experience in dealing with hot blooded horses however he's never trained a horse in a western saddle before. She's still a yearling so I have time, but a reply would be appreciated.
I just bought an Arab and I want to train her in barrels. She's the first hot blooded horse I've owned and I'm wondering if there are differences in Arab and quarter horse responses to training methods. I have an
great start on this filly. she seemed a bit resistive to backing a couple times and was slightly
stiff on one of her turns but overall very responsive

At two years this horse is way to young for this kind of training. I should be out in the field playing with other young horses.

This filly show such confidence as it is confidently taken from the familiar and gradually stepped up, sequentially, logically. Beautiful!

@XxMadz007 Horsemanship is horsemanship. Western or English... the horse doesn't care what kind of saddle you use.

Any tips for teaching neck reining? I noticed all of your 2-year-olds are responsive to neck reining right off the bat.
Thanks so much for posting these videos. See your training in action is a huge help.

@OlFitzFarm What my free videos on youtube concerning use of the "HeadSetter".
There is good information there about teaching a horse to neck-rein.
