It does not increase the polygon count, but it gives you the options to render the scenes at higher resolutions, add bilinear filtering to the polygons, increase the resolution of the textures and add various filters to the rendered image.
These old games really should have been enhanced, even if it only means improving the draw distance and resolution. I'd deffinatley buy them over again if they were, but I may as well use my old disks to play them instead of hard drive space.

Suprisingly, the game actually looks better on a nice 16:9 screen, than on a PSP screen. I wonder why... I always thought that if the display is small, the details look better.

No, this was played on an SDTV, but the PS3 upscales PS1 and PS2 games up to 1080p, so if you play on an HDTV it will upscale them if you set it to do that in the Settings menu. ;)

One being low texture resolution resulting in surfaces looking either washed out or blocky, and the second and most severe one: playstation only had integer math, and handled geometry coordinates rounded to integer to the rasterizer. This makes for some very, very jumpy and jittery geometry if one replaces the rasterizer with a high-res equivalent.
And yeah, thanks for capping, but a clean capture from video output would be nicer. :D
Sure, but then there's controller lag because of the pass through a DVR, making the game unplayable. I don't have the equipment for capture on PC. :(
I have a better camera now (HD 1280x720) and progressive scan TVs, so soon it will be better if I make another video. This was the first video I posted, shot with Canon Powershot A85 (Now broken) on a 20" SDTV so there was considerable loss of quality I am aware of that.
Note: My WipEout HD Sebenco Reverse video is not a reference, it will be even better than that :)(That video was shot with a Nikon P80 which doesn't do HD, so Youtube pillar-boxed it.)

Altima VII is only in Wipeout, Wipeout 64 (Reversed, mirrored and modified - Qoron IV) and WipEout PurE AFAIK. They're all different tracks though. So it's not in WipEout HD for the moment, although this doesn't count the upcoming DLC which may or may not include it depending on feedback ;)

Love it, I have it too. I remember playing the original on PSX in 1995. I have been a faithful follower of wipeout ever since with the exception of fusion because it sucked.
It was supposed to come out on the PSN some time ago I think but there's been no real news for a good while. I suspect they are having troubles with emulation of the game, as I tried converting an ISO of a disc to PSP (I have custom firmware) and the game crashed when loading the main menu. This is in no way official though, I would appreciate it much if they did release it, but without news of it I don't think it will be very soon... :( Sadly.
You can do this on PSP if you have custom firmware, some games are not compatible but a lot are. Sadly, I could not get Wipeout 2097 to work, and RollCage Stage 2 isn't compatible :( But I've put Vigilante 8 2nd Offense and WipEout 3 SE on it without no problem ;)
Unfortunately what works for PSP with custom firmware doesn't work for PS3 at the moment. It would be a cool thing if Sony allowed disc ripping to the HDD or something, and then transfer to PSP officially.
I traded my PS3 in about two weeks ago for a 360 and dusted off the PS2. Sad to say there is nothing on the PS3 which interests me any more... I bought it for MGS4, GT5 and FFXIII however MGS4 blew, FFXIII is coming to PC and 360 and GT5 < Forza 2 and PGR. Its a sad time to own a PS3 atm. I am liking the 360 atm, you don't need to install games and its alot more reliable than my 40gb PS3... I know I won't be saying the same if I get RROD though :S

You shouldn't get RRoD with the new X-Box360s (with HDMI) though, the problem has been fixed (Or so Microsoft says, but it really isn't as frequent anymore).
I take it there is no option for smoothing option available for the downloads? Good thing I have the original discs if so.
origianal PS1 games sadly look terrible on an HDTV, you almost need some kind of enhancement to make it even tolerable, especially on the Sharp Aquos 1080P set I have.
There is smoothing available but the effect is barely useful. It is set to on in this video (On a 20" Emerson SDTV), and I have played it on Sharp Aquos 32" 1080p and smoothing helps though. But not much. It's a PS1 game, keep that in mind ;) But smoothing happens for downloads and for discs.
I was actually thinking about showing something else of the game (Maybe another lap) but then I checked my camera for the time left for the recording and noticed I had five seconds less... That's the sighs cause: a very average camera :/ I really would like another one with HDD and unlimited record time, but I don't have the money now and would have to ask the parents. And with the recent HDTV purchase, well I just don't think they're ready. Fortunately I may be able to use Remote Joy on PSP ;)
A lot of people dig the wipeout 1 music, it's not just you. Back in the days Tim Wright (the guy who actually did the music) made all of the tracks available for download free of charge.

That is actually the first Wipeout for PSX running on the PS3, I downloaded it off the PSN Store. :) I don't believe they brought back DR for WipEout HD. ;) Still it's going to be awesome!
Unfortunately Wipeout is the only title of the franchise available on the PSStore for the PS3. I wish they would put Wipeout 2097/XL next to it, but it hasn't been done.
Oh yes by the way this demo was running on an SDTV, hence the interlacing (scroll effect) seen on the video. So it's pretty much playing Wipeout on a PS2 with smoothing set to on.
Greatest sound track ever! and the start of one of the best racing series. The problem why I never got this one again though is the lack of modes. I mean there is nothing to do in the game except go pointlessly around the track.
Well it's a 1995 game so it's pretty old and lack any new features. But the new WipeOut PulsE has pretty cool features like photo mode and skin edit mode. :)
I don't have Pulse yet...it is not available here. I do have Pure though and while it is still a sweet game and I love it..it still suffers from a lack of a good mode. Not variety, just needs a good..with a good career mode or something that lets you open items.
As far as I've seen from the PulsE demos you can find it has a refined career mode where you race multiple classes and modes in one "tournament" instead of beating Venom, then Rapier, then etc.; but I wouldn't know about unlockables.
[I know it's not right but I just finished downloading the full EU game, hopefully it will satisfy me until the game comes out here (Canada) at which time I will buy it. Got to remain supportive of great games like that. I'll tell you more about the campaign if I get through it a little. However I do remember some unlocks in PurE, they were few though...]

Sorry about the clicks and the shifts. It wasn't centered at the beginning and I wanted everyone to see what track I was going to play, so I had to shift it up a bit during the loading.

Yes it is the same game, but it is the 47MB-ish license downloadable from the PSN for about 8$ (I think that's the price now) played on PS3. You will recognise the PS3 interface (The XMB) at the beginning and at the end of the video.

This is my favourite.
Darkdrium, in each wipeout you have master skills! Auricom is not like ag systems, i found harder to move the auricom crafts.

This is a PS1 game filmed on an SDTV with a crap photo camera that had a video mode that could only film two minutes in one continuous shot.

I have no idea why Sony shortens the intro, it plays back faster now than what it was usually.
I've looked at it thoroughly and I'm pretty sure it's the same video, just played faster so the music doesn't match up.

It is on the US Playstation Store for sure, and on the European Playstation Store also AFAIK.
Search by titles under the 'W' letter, or in the PS1 games section.

I have a better camera now (HD 1280x720) and progressive scan TVs, so soon it will be better if I make another video. This was the first video I posted, shot with Canon Powershot A85 (Now broken) on a 20" SDTV so there was considerable loss of quality I am aware of that.

Altima VII is only in Wipeout, Wipeout 64 (Reversed, mirrored and modified - Qoron IV) and WipEout PurE AFAIK. They're all different tracks though. So it's not in WipEout HD for the moment, although this doesn't count the upcoming DLC which may or may not include it depending on feedback ;)

No. If you use official firmware, it is not possible, if you use custom firmware, it might be, but I have not found the plug-in though.

Love it, I have it too. I remember playing the original on PSX in 1995. I have been a faithful follower of wipeout ever since with the exception of fusion because it sucked.

It was supposed to come out on the PSN some time ago I think but there's been no real news for a good while. I suspect they are having troubles with emulation of the game, as I tried converting an ISO of a disc to PSP (I have custom firmware) and the game crashed when loading the main menu. This is in no way official though, I would appreciate it much if they did release it, but without news of it I don't think it will be very soon... :( Sadly.

You can do this on PSP if you have custom firmware, some games are not compatible but a lot are. Sadly, I could not get Wipeout 2097 to work, and RollCage Stage 2 isn't compatible :( But I've put Vigilante 8 2nd Offense and WipEout 3 SE on it without no problem ;)
Unfortunately what works for PSP with custom firmware doesn't work for PS3 at the moment. It would be a cool thing if Sony allowed disc ripping to the HDD or something, and then transfer to PSP officially.

I traded my PS3 in about two weeks ago for a 360 and dusted off the PS2. Sad to say there is nothing on the PS3 which interests me any more... I bought it for MGS4, GT5 and FFXIII however MGS4 blew, FFXIII is coming to PC and 360 and GT5 < Forza 2 and PGR. Its a sad time to own a PS3 atm. I am liking the 360 atm, you don't need to install games and its alot more reliable than my 40gb PS3... I know I won't be saying the same if I get RROD though :S

You shouldn't get RRoD with the new X-Box360s (with HDMI) though, the problem has been fixed (Or so Microsoft says, but it really isn't as frequent anymore).

origianal PS1 games sadly look terrible on an HDTV, you almost need some kind of enhancement to make it even tolerable, especially on the Sharp Aquos 1080P set I have.

There is smoothing available but the effect is barely useful. It is set to on in this video (On a 20" Emerson SDTV), and I have played it on Sharp Aquos 32" 1080p and smoothing helps though. But not much. It's a PS1 game, keep that in mind ;) But smoothing happens for downloads and for discs.

I was actually thinking about showing something else of the game (Maybe another lap) but then I checked my camera for the time left for the recording and noticed I had five seconds less... That's the sighs cause: a very average camera :/ I really would like another one with HDD and unlimited record time, but I don't have the money now and would have to ask the parents. And with the recent HDTV purchase, well I just don't think they're ready. Fortunately I may be able to use Remote Joy on PSP ;)

A lot of people dig the wipeout 1 music, it's not just you. Back in the days Tim Wright (the guy who actually did the music) made all of the tracks available for download free of charge.

Well it's smoother thanks to the PS/PS2 smoothing option, but don't expect it to look much better, because it's still an early PS1 game. :)
I've got an HD PC Monitor now (ViewSonic VX2035wm) and it doesn't look much different than on that 20' SDTV.

Unfortunately Wipeout is the only title of the franchise available on the PSStore for the PS3. I wish they would put Wipeout 2097/XL next to it, but it hasn't been done.

Oh yes by the way this demo was running on an SDTV, hence the interlacing (scroll effect) seen on the video. So it's pretty much playing Wipeout on a PS2 with smoothing set to on.

Greatest sound track ever! and the start of one of the best racing series. The problem why I never got this one again though is the lack of modes. I mean there is nothing to do in the game except go pointlessly around the track.

Well it's a 1995 game so it's pretty old and lack any new features. But the new WipeOut PulsE has pretty cool features like photo mode and skin edit mode. :)

I don't have Pulse yet...it is not available here. I do have Pure though and while it is still a sweet game and I love it..it still suffers from a lack of a good mode. Not variety, just needs a good..with a good career mode or something that lets you open items.

As far as I've seen from the PulsE demos you can find it has a refined career mode where you race multiple classes and modes in one "tournament" instead of beating Venom, then Rapier, then etc.; but I wouldn't know about unlockables.

Sorry about the clicks and the shifts. It wasn't centered at the beginning and I wanted everyone to see what track I was going to play, so I had to shift it up a bit during the loading.
However if something that happens once annoys you so much, well the problem might not be in the click itself...
By the way it wasn't the camera that did the noise, it was the controller that I placed on the table while changing the volume. :)

Yes it is the same game, but it is the 47MB-ish license downloadable from the PSN for about 8$ (I think that's the price now) played on PS3. You will recognise the PS3 interface (The XMB) at the beginning and at the end of the video.

Well honestly the other thing I can think of is my HDD DVR, but I think that the video plugs on it are ouputs so I can't plug my console in there... Really my Powershot A85 is my only solution right now, even though it sucks...
