I've always tried to research the candidates and vote for good ones, so I have a long history of "protest votes". This isn't a direct response to this but rather another of your posts talking about our vote "not counting" or "not mattering" because the President is in reality elected by the Electoral College. I will say this though: You are mostly right, because it is the Electoral College that elects the President, not the people, but the majority of the College is still bound by state-based popular votes. If/when the US is ready for a new candidate, our votes will matter, if not as much as some think.

Well, they are not quite the same. If I was a poor American I maybe would vote Osama or Billary, because of the health care, and if I was a middle class American, I maybe would vote McPain, because of lower taxes. If I didn't care a damn about better health care or lower taxes, and instead was thinking about the possibility of a WWIII and Mans' futurity on this planet, I certainly wouldn't vote for McPain and his Vice President candidate.
