I wanna know cause I'm and I've been in UK and for sure I don't see any diffrent between white western Europeans and us like you sad 'eastern europeans' ?

  • Who cares how she pronounces our city shes not Australian and at least she knows that Canberra is the capital.

  • I have a question... is Canberra as completely awful as everyone says it is? And, if so, why? I'd really appreciate a reply if anyone can help.

  • why do they always say can berruh. its pronounced canbra or cambra for the really lazy also did she say flaury aid. its flori aad

  • *Your* command...

  • it's pronounced by australians as:

    1. Can-brah (canberra)

    2.mel-bun (melbourne)

    3. flori-arde (floriade)

it annoys me to no end, how people from that states pronounce melbourne. I mean it's how you'd logically say it, i know.. but it's still annoying. It's like calling san francisco sanfamsiskooooo or something. :P

  • @EmmaDilemma91

As someone from California, I can tell you that a couple of my British friends pronounce Los Angeles "Los Angeleees" and have called San Francisco "Frisco" at a whim, which is really derogatory for northern Californians. But since they didn't grow up in the area like I did, how could they possibly know? Sure enough, if I went to Oz and visited Melbourne or Canberra, I'd probably say it wrong like the rest. It just seems logical to us to pronounce it the way it's spelled :P

  • @mdhookey it's logical, i agree ;) don't blame them for that at all, but you know what i mean by it's annoying? :P

You're in the city and some tourist asks you about something and pronounces it wrong.. and you just want to correct them, but instead, twitch xD

  • @EmmaCormick

Heheh, I know what you mean. There's no harm intended though. I live and study in Germany now, and in my beginning German language class, my teacher couldn't for the life of her pronounce my name right. I'd always smile and giggle a little, and never corrected her. I think a lot of times, mistakes like that are enduring, and just well...fun.

But yeah, totally off topic now, right? I hope to see Can-brah, Mel-brun, or just anywhere in Australia sometime. Just need the money.

  • I'm going to Canberra to study at ANU soon. so excited ^^

  • My dear ignorant, narrow-minded, brainless fellow Australians who keep bashing Canberra. A lot of things you say about Canberra being boring, etc, applies to the 60s and 70s. Everything has changed now. Today, Canberra is the perfect city. It has a good balance of tranquility and peace as well as activity and life. Why can't you just learn to be proud of your magnificent national capital? Would that be un-Australian?

  • please stop islamic terror!

turkey is killing thousands of kurds!!! please stop islamic terror!!!

    FREE KURDISTAN FOR EVER!!!

  • Canberra is full of fat fucks and dumb people. The original designers may have done a good job with designing it for some parks and spare space. But Jesus Christ its going down the fuckin toilet.Fuckin dumb Canberra people who live like garbage and vote for garbage here, and the system is so fuckin mongoloide and fuckin backwards. And Canberra people deserve fuckin garbage stupid fat fucks!!!

  • @megadak123 Funny how you call people from Canberra "garbage" and "dumb" but cannot seem to think of any words other than "fuck". You're command of the English language leads me to conclude that YOU must be dumb. I suggest you try to find a constructive outlet for your rage, because frankly, we don't care about your worthless opinion and would prefer NOT to hear it.

  • canberra is a boring place to live in the social sense of things, the norm is you work all week and goto mooseheads for your one night of the same old drunken cycle then back to work. its has to be though, if it was exciting with plenty of things to do, public servants would get too distracted and work output would decline. its designed that way for a reason. not saying its a good or bad thing, its just the way it is

  • @MyPunisher23 so true man lol

  • yep

  • why is she reading wikipedia ? hmhmm

  • It's pronounced "canbruh", not can-beh-ra...

  • Honestly, Australia on the whole is not a racist country. We have equal oppertunity rights for everyone, we celebrate a diverse range of foods and cultures and Canberra holds a Multicultural festival every year to celebrate this.

I'm 21, I live here and Canberra is FANTASTIC! 10 minute drive to uni, live bands, tons of dance clubs every weekend, thousands of resturants, and heaps of bush. You Just need to look for things coz Canberra doesn't have everything located in the CBD.

  • can-berra lol, the largest inland city lol, there arn't any other real cities that are inland in Australia, the others are officially towns and not cities...

  • Comment removed

  • meh, do you call any of those places decent???? There all crap

  • The Worst place in Australia... Wow, next time i'll pass through canberra i'll say OMFG we have to go see the Telstra Satellite tower! Isn't that the coolest thing ever?

  • well if weed aint legal in canberra is there anything else worth going for?

  • Now that they've also banned Fireworks, that just leaves the porn I'm afraid.

  • Yes we can..berra

  • is marijuana legal in canberra??

  • no its not legal in canberra

  • yeah it is but it has a side effect ! prison

  • I was down there on a holiday with my family in 2003, and I can remember how much I just loved the place. I live in Brisbane, which is among the fastest-growing cities in the world at the moment and the state government seems to be having trouble keeping up to date with the traffic system etc. I've been considering moving down there.

  • most boring place on earth

  • Why?

  • it just is

  • you are.

  • go fuck your mother asshole

  • Go lick your dick.

  • i live in Canberra and although it can be boring sometimes, it's a pretty cool place to live.

  • yer same here, its boring but is so pleasant

  • @sabinahbubble i would imagine so, is it more serene than the bustling major cities like where i live (my name says it all), id have serenity anyday

  • i live there. it's an awesome place

  • I havent been in Canberra before , but people often says that its such a boring place where there is nothing to do . I dont knw if its true but tomorrow I am gonna see it by myself.

  • nah i am not gonna say that australia is racist country but the ppl are racist.

    just the bunches of bigots

  • ..?

  • The thing I hate is that the world thinks Australia is a Racist Country we are not all Racist their are Racist People in Every Country hey i even got friends that are from different nationalitys it's just your Media Companies in your Countrys that focus on the Negatives just to get ratings hey even are Media Corps in Australia do the same...

  • You're right, and why should people even feel bothered about some racist trolls.. I have come across racist people in my own country, Portugal, in England (London) where I lived for a huge while, and to be honest none of that has ever affected me. It's simply not an issue for me, no matter where I am. I guess the more we talk about ignorants the more we strengthen them. And I'm sure Canberra is a great place!!!

  • I can see telstra tower from my bedroom.

  • It look's like a really nice place to live mate.=] Wish New York looked like that.=]

  • fuck your racist backwards british country been there never wanted to go back happy to be home in LA

  • Um isn't the KKK in LA? they are racist fuckwits in every country. I believe black and white people and equal and black people are my brothers.

  • KKK? are you stupid im white they have mexicans whites and blacks no KKK here and the black ppl there are fuckin africans and the brown ppl there are fuckin indians all foreigners come to america and you will see the blacks and browns here there fuckin dangerous as hell my cousin married an indian and they live there and they say that

  • there kid is called an indian shit at school what kind of racist backwards country is that build your roads bigger build your super markets bigger change your accents and get bigger hearts free of racism

  • I really don't care, I don't hate anyone. I would marry a Indian girl, a African girl, an Aboriginal girl. It doesn't matter. You can say Australia is racist if you want but if you think I a racist you are an idiot.

And I have encountered racism towards Asians at my old school. I'm not denying they are racist morons here but saying all Australians are racist is just plain ignorant.

  • its funny tell those racists to come to america and see the indians and mexicans you would get shot so many indians join the mexicans in gang banging there dangerous as hell but there not racist towards whites the blacks are but still how dare your ppl hate on indians they are a really nice people

  • you want racism come to america the blacks are very racist i dont like blacks but i do like indians and hispanics as for your ppl they need to understand that we are all one maybe your not a racist but damn when i heard my cousins son was picked on for being indian and all these racist attacks against indians i felt like taking a shit on your backwards country bye now

  • I'm glad Australia doesn't have gangs. I like black's but I don't like people in gangs. I'd like to see the racist morons yell the n word in front of someone in a gang though. He'd get his brains blown out hehehe

  • i dont like gangs either i guess your not one of those racist australians you should come to america gangs dont bother you unless you get involved but there so many here in LA but other than that its the best country in the world

  • You sound like a patriot to me. I wish I was born in America. Oh well apart from the racist turds Australia isn't that bad. I'm nice to everyone anyway so I probably won't bother the gangs and I certainly won't get involved (unless I somehow date a girl who is a member of a gang)

  • i came 2 days ago from canberra man im not directing this towards you but your australian ppl have to be a little more open to race i am a patriot and proud.

  • Wow we were in the same city just 2 days ago. Apart from racists how did you find Canberra?

Yeah racists make me sick. Especially the racist thugs who are targeting Indian students, They make the rest of the world think Australia is racist. So I can't really blame people like you who think we are. You should see the reply I made to a racist Australian in a newsgroup. Hang on I'll post it in the next comment I made.

  • its funny even at the airport i saw white man talking so lovely with other whites but when a brown family comes along he just says proceed to that gate and so i came along and he saw that i was with my cousin and his indian wife and he gave me this stare in

  • general ppl dont like other races there i heard of some indian attacks also like god they just want to go to uni and become a hair dresser or what not they arent arming australians im 25 son america is for all races white, black, yellow and brown come to my country peace

  • Canberra would be one of the most racially tolerant cities in the country. I think you are being very paranoid, or perhaps you unluckily stumbled upon a few racist people. The city is very diverse and the universities are full of Europeans, Asians, Africans and Middle Eastern people. Sorry if you felt mistreated, but I'm sure next time you'll be able to see that the majority of Canberran's are not racist. :)

  • Good lord thank you so much for this reply!!! lol I was starting to get really scared will all the previous comments on Canberra, cos I am actually relocating all the way from Europe to Canberra next year to start this PhD, and I happen to be mixed raced LOL Thank you, I hope you're right!!! But then again, Canberra is my dream, something tells me I'll love it, and I really couldn't bothered with racism or any ignorant shit as a matter of fact! I'm usually superior to all of that! :)

  • @stoogalopicus Totally agree!

  • yes canberra was really nice i went to many places went to see tidbindilla to see kangaroos went to see telestra tower went to sydney as well didnt get a chance to go to melbourne the city is beautiful a major difference than home though in size but i loved it travelled everywhere there with my cousin and his family :)

  • Yeah its a great city. Its better in the Spring though. I had relatives staying so I got to do all the tourist stuff with them. Black mountain tower has a great view. I can even see it from my house (as I said) I'd love to go to Washington, LA or New York. Oh well one day.

Melbourne is a great city as well. Its a pitty you missed it. But Sydney is the best I reckon (in Australia)

  • Not only did you pronounce Canberra wrong, you also pronounced Floriade and Melbourne wrong, and you spelled Queanbeyan wrong (it is not spelled Queenbeyan). You stupid Canadians. Go back to drinking crap beer and exporting maple syrup.

  • Canberra more boring city than Wellington but canberra has better weather

  • Aboriginal Holocaust

  • It was not around Canberra in which Indigenous people were mistreated. It was mainly around Sydney, Western Australia, South Australia, and Northern Territory. But I do see your point. We as a nation aim to make up for past wrongs and seek to achieve complete equality between all Australians regardless of their heritage.

  • 1. its AUStralia no OStralia

    2. canBRA not canbearrah

    3. melBIN not melborn

(btw thats how they are pronounced not spelt)

  • you missed one..

    4. Flor-ee-yard.. NOT Flor-ee-aid

  • Yeah, that Yank says Canberra soooo wrong!

I'm from the UK, have visited Australia so many times, and I'm not sure why anybody pays out Canberra. Sure it is quiet, but hell is it beautiful, peaceful, and it has everything you need.

If I ever get citezenship into Australia, it's the only place I'd bring up my kids.

  • I'm curious, how do we Americans or Canadians say it wrong? I'm American and I was just wondering.

  • very nice video that I like ! Thank you for sharing .

    nutier

  • its so funny listeninig to americans pronounce australian cities

  • ya know... they say its the largest inland city... i'm pretty convinced its one of the ONLY inland cities... alice springs is a town, orange is a shire, Dubbo is a town, and so is broken hill.

    what constitutes a city?

and seriously... while us Ozzies may pay out canberra, we know the place... and your average joe 30yr old japanese office worker is an ant on the pavement. you want stereotypes?

get away from port moresby, and leave the fucking whales alone.

  • All the places you mentioned are cities. I should know, I grew up in Orange and now live in Canberra.

  • OMG: its pronounced Can-bra

  • australia sucks and half the 90% of the male population are in Japan looking desperately for a woman to escape those big foot "shielas" they have in their stupid country.

  • so thats why CSIRO states that australias population is 52% female? and funny how japs seem to focus on things with big feet all cosnidering they had a hissey fit when we culled a local pest (kangeroos) your focus on the few aussie women with big feet (swimmers and national basketball team and so on) while the rest of us normal people focus on the reaming 51% ok?!

And why would an aussie go to japan to look for an asain girl? currently more then half of aus' new arrivals are asian.

  • You're nuts. Australia is awesome, best place I've been in my life. I only wish I had the money and time to go back. You are right about there being a lot of Aussie men in Japan, though, I lived a year in Japan and met a ton of em there.

  • I don't mean to be irritating but..

    it's CAN-BEH-RAH

    not CAN-BERRAH

    sorry :D

  • what a dump. even wagga seems more lively than canberra. i love the voice over in this clip. she sounds enthused.

  • hahaha

hate to of just ripped of wiki lol

but yeah....its pretty much a hole (GET ME OUT HERE)

  • I live there and I love it:) its great for horse riding:)

  • lol did a yank do this? fuck em!!!!!

  • i live there... Eesh its horrible the only good thing about it is its fine to bring up children.. then if you wanna have fun once your in your teens get drunk, go to civic or get stabbed at woden bus interchange.

  • You're far more likely to get stabbed at Belco interchange than Woden interchange. Hell, if you're really into getting stabbed, then head on over to Charnie shops where a mentally deranged woman just recently stabbed another woman to death.

  • I used to live there. It's possibly one of the most boring cities on the planet. Great place to visit for a weekend, but get the hell out of there afterwards.

Best things are The National Gallery and The War Memorial

The rest of Australia thinks Canberra is a dull dull place and they're right. Nightlife is atrocious - there's bugger all to do there.

The main thing people say about Canberra is "It's a good place to bring up kids" - wow... now that sounds really exciting doesn't it?

  • Scratch that part about a weekend visit being great. Make that 1 day. And even then it's not worth it. If you come to Australia I'd do Melbourne & Sydney first. The other cities all have something to offer.

Canberra's good if you're over 80 and like things slow...

  • Great video - for someone who hasn't been there, this was very informative!

  • Melbourne is pronounced as Melbun/Melburn. Not Melborn. :)

  • who gives a DAMN how it is pronounced???! The place isn't important at ALL. ask the aborigniees what it is and they'll probably say something totally different.

  • actually... it was an aboriginal meeting place waaaay before it was made into a city

  • WTF candytotty your fucked up dude..........

  • ive been there...boring as hell

  • i live there

  • ive been here!

  • gay

  • hey, I thought Australia was supposed to be gay friendly. LOL! I'm from Canada. I thought Australia was supposed to simply be friendly. everything about Australia towns I've heard are good, not like New York City or New Jersey or California. P.S. I'm 20, wear glasses & gay

    ciao
