Why do couriers do that? Is it really that beneficial to do that when you could just go one street over and avoid giving cyclists a bad image?

No offence intended but don't you think this is largely why cyclists are regarded with such animosty in this city?

If he is indeed a bike messenger obscureluzername then going against standstill traffic in what seems to be a very large metropolitan area is safer and more effective for delivery of a package. Time is money after all in the courier business.

Also, have you never seen an aggressive cab driver? They're way more dangerous, they've got a 2-ton weapon!

Of course the guys here in the states that work in NYC or Chicago are the real badasses.

Most cab drivers are not dangerous or aggressive, just the inexperienced ones. Anyone who has been driving cab long enough knows that you don't gain a damn thing by being aggressive and is generally quite predictable. The real dangerous drivers are christmas shoppers who drive downtown once a year and don't know where they're going or what's happening around them. You never know what they're going to do. (No, I'm not a cab driver. I was a messenger for 15 years, three times as long as BPC.)
