@mrblujet i think its caused by inductive resonance of the air being draw into the engines intakes, could be wrong though im not a sonic sound wave engineer here, just a lowly car mechanic.there are resonance silencers fitted to car intake plenums to silence noises like this.but i doubt it was a concern when this was designed.hope that helps you
Roll on Saturday! Cannot wait to see this baby flying! And one of the best things about Waddington is the noise. From the War planes to the modern day fighters. Spectacular!
I live not far away and watched the 'display'. I understand that this was for the benefit of the CAA. I am listening to 'Airshow FM' 103.60 and they are still waiting to hear if it has been given permission to display. I will continue to listen and post any update here. (time now 19.07)
Thelncredibleculk.....Your right just saw the local nottingham news and says she may be joining ground display...GUTTED REALLY WANTED TO SEE THAT BEAUTY FLY
Yous say your gutted, the mere fact her presence will be there, she had to fly there didn't she, the worlds waited 15 years for haer surely a litle long won't hurt if it means she will be in perfect order as always, WELL DONE VULCAN TO THE SKY TEAM may she howl forever more
yes the fact that she will be there is good but i wanted to hear her ROAR for myself, I wanted my young son to see her fly and hear her roar. But yeah i guess we will have to wait. Still i should be able to get some cracking photos
Its JUST been on the local 6 oclock news and says this time SHE WILL BE TAKING TO THE AIR?
The very news that had been on this afternoon and said she was not due to fly.
WHATS GOING ON..As she or as she not got clearnace to fly at waddington air show?
I am not sure myself yet I am going 2 Waddo as well, I was lucky enough to see her come into Coningsby well worth the wait, all I know is she is down at Waddington safley lol

The Vulcan Flies Again - 12 May 2008
We have waited a long time for the return to the air of the formidable Vulcan Bomber. Come to the show and see her display for the first time in 15 years. You cannot afford to miss this incredible opportunity. Book on-line now and secure your place in history
I hope to god she gets clearence. Thats the main reason why im going this sunday.
I really want to see this aircraft fly again! Fantastic piece of British engineering. Mind you, as an Air Cadet, I have been to the home of the Vulcan: a camp to RAF Waddington, and seen, had photos next to etc Vulcan XM607. Awesome aircraft!
Superb sound pick up. You captured that olympus howl perfectly. I love the sound of this airplane, and l cant wait to see it at Biggin Hill this year!
Respect to the Vulcan is a fantastic aircraft and I can't wait to see it again. Its a Shame tho that they flew it 8000 miles to The Falklands in 1982 costing millions & using up hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel & around 10 Victor tankers to drop just 1 bomb on a runway (which was filled in in 24 hours), when Royal Navy Sea Harriers with better radar & avionics were sitting just off the coast on HMS Hermes & Invincible and could have done a better job.
Soooooo hevyyyyyyyyyyy

I was able to see a low level flyby in 1972. Awesome machine. The Vulcan has a completely different "feel" to a bystander than a B-52.
