I grew up sailing that channel; you get winds like that several times a year. You were handling that powerful yacht expertly, hats off to ya! For those of you who are not sailors, you might want to know that even a small mistake in those conditions can cause catastrophic damage. Doing everything right will give you the time of your life.
@DeadEyeDave I can't do anything but agree with you completely - really well sailed here.
A crewmember on our yacht decided he wanted to try being a bowman and our captain okayed it - he ended up putting up a spinnaker boom for the genoa (fail) without and uphaul or a downhaul (double fail) and then the helmsman broached (triple fail) resulting in a spinnaker boom in the water at 11 knots without a way of getting it out of there - Got my bowman position back after that :P
Now, THAT'S what I call sailing!!!! I've only sailed liked that on one ocassion and that was as a passenger on a boat out of Lahaina on Maui. It was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. Sadly, I haven't had the opportunity to ride the open waters like that since. From one of your biggest fans, "you go Dr. Laura!!!!!"
