I'm not one to piss on others, but you're about 90-100 feet when u made the hook. But u don't GO FORIT. If you had pulled hard left u would have made it
Ouch mate, really glad you are ok. I start my AFF in a few months, I think watching vids like this will keep my head on, so i dont try anything im not ready for...
Glad you survived. I guess I was lucky to have some great canopy instructors who gave free advice to NuB's. This included brake turns and using rear risers. Blue skies :)
Bad decision on your part but thanks for posting this dude. it will give me nightmares and something to always think about when swooping... Its not worth it if its too low!! your are a very lucky soul. take care.
thx for posting, so we can learn from it. I hope I won't make the same mistake someday, I do understand how you get to the point of being overconfident. The adrenalinerush or something about skydiving gives me that feeling as well, especially when you get better at it. Glad that you re still with us and that you can teach others to improve
Like my mama always used to say....stupid is as stupid does!! But seriously, glad you survived. One of my good friends and mentor, Harry Parish, who died a few years ago at West Point Skydiving in Va, always used to say this when asked why someone didn't follow his warnings...".Pain is a far greater teacher than I".......so learn from your pain brother and....BLUE SKIES!
If you knew it was bad from the start you should have let go of the front riser, it will plane the canopy out then you could have arrested the turn and not had such an impact.
@Sepiboyz Right now i'm swooping the crap out of a xaos-27 92 with a WL of 2.0.. it's not necessarily the higher the WL the better of a canopy pilot you are, but i've never seen you land so i can't really say anything.
thats totally right! iv never seen you swooping or flying neither. but when this guy writes something about swoop and you see this....that just pisses me of!
You were probably thinking : Lower, faster !!! hook that shit !!
Too bad you femured but thanks for posting that video. To everyone else, if you're not 100% sure, just land it, and go back up and try again ! And GET SOME COACHING !!!!!
I am about 4 jumps away from my A license so not too far into the sport, but it is still crazy how many people get hurt doing low level turns and that is one of the major things they tell you not to do in school! Glad you are ok though.
I just did this on a Crossfire 2 129. Witnesses (about 20 fellow jumpers) said they thought I'd be dead or in a wheelchair, but I walked away.. Very lucky. And yeah bro, fuckin ouch
It's always fun to show off; but, I have no shame in bailing out of a turn early if it feels too low at any point. Bailing out early may make you look inexperienced; but, it also shows that you have the presence of mind to recognize when you have misjudged and the ability to adjust for it. Glad that your recovery is going well.
I admire your honesty and willingness to help others learn from your mistake. We all make them and you had to pay a pretty heavy price, but one that could have been so much worse.
Whenever I see a video like this, I avoid saying "I'd never do that..." and instead just try to stay humble and learn.
Hope you mend ok buddy. Having the plates out of my arm soon from a stupid landing last Sept. Opted to take a downwinder (5knot wind max) and tripped over my own feet on concrete. Good learning experience LOL
@MrGstrdr Wish you had kept filming longer. I'm an EMT, I like seeing trauma and would have liked to see how the people who came to your aid treated you.
@kuai43 actually the whole thing was a little surreal I knew I was low at my start point but was convinced I could salvage it. when I watch now I think the same thing you probably do " Dude its obviously WAY low!!!" Dont let arrogance get in the way of good judgement. Im back in the sky now and running up to 3 miles X 3-4 times a week. It has slowed me down but not stopped me. without a doubt a very cold and hard reality check
I'm not one to piss on others, but you're about 90-100 feet when u made the hook. But u don't GO FORIT. If you had pulled hard left u would have made it

That was more of a 150 turn rather than a 90. With a 90 it would have been a cool swoop.
Still to low

you call this swoop with an 139 crossfire and an WL of 1.4-1.5?!! haha, no sir, you cant call this swooping!
