Bitcoin is not a good solution to the failing worldwide fiat currencies, because it is WORSE than fiat: Bitcoins has all the BAD features of fiat currencies, but additionally has a valueless basis for issuance, and no legal tender laws to support it. Therefore, it is much worse than fiat currencies in this regard. Watch for the bitcoins to fluctuate wildly in value, before it crashes and burns for good. You can't solve the bad problem of fiat currencies with a worse currency!

Look at all the services being built around bitcoin. Programmers can write scripts which manage a wallet and spend bitcoins with any service which accepts them. Whether those programs be in online services, or on end user's systems - it adds greatly to what can be done with money.
Twitter is a social network tool (or site) that has Real Time Status Updates. Bit Coin is a virtual currency that can be turned into a real money or be used on the Internet. But the reason why I think a lot people are skeptical about it is because it generates a unstable form of trust . And when your dealing with particularly something with value you want to be able to touch it.
@Stonegoal I use them to move British pounds to dollars and RMB cheaper than any other mechanism. I don't care what they are worth - I don't speculate. But they are the cheapest way of buying world currencies. That's not worthless. If you know a cheaper way let me know.
@Stonegoal I buy bitcoins for British pounds on Intersango (no fees) - move them to mt.gox and buy whatever currency I like (0.4% fees - though if you wait you can take that into account).
@glaatraa its as useless as baseball cards. Ya you can collect cards and they may or may not going up in value. But its very possible you won't find a buyer for baseball cards.
@Stonegoal I don;t collect them - I buy them and sell them immediately for the same price in another currency. If I can't find a buyer I will stop using it. That's not useless (for me at the moment). If bitcoin fails I don;t really care - I'll just use another mechanism for moving currency. But it does have that functionality right now which is actually quite valuable becasue it is cheap.
