@hartlockersh yes, the lense is safe for airsoft... however, many fields won't allow them anyway. I used to run a PMK with my airsoft setup, but stopped due to excessive fogging.

I've done a little research on those topics. The lenses are ballistic, so I would assume they are safe. As for the filters, as long as they're recent, as in produced in the 1980's or so, they lack the harm of asbestos. Of course expired filters wouldn't provide the protection as a new filter would, but they're still usable for training purposes and such. That's just what I've researched.

i got a question when i breathe with the filter when i inhale the mask like gets tighter then when i exhale it expands some is it suppost to happen i mean i can breathe but its hard but i do understand it takes some getting use too

What's identified as an "exhale valve" in the video is actually a second voice amplifier that's used with telephone and radio handsets. If you seal the filter with the palm of your hand and attempt to exhale, you'll find out that that is NOT an exhale valve.

The only thing that I don't understand about gas mask is how the exhaust or exhale and voice amplifier part works because if it's just a metal/plastic plastic plate with holes in it how does it not let the bad air in? And in exhale parts like the Finnish one has I don't want to open it up and I can't see how it works.

@albinotatertot The voicemitter is a small rubber diaphragm that vibrates at the same frequency as your voice, allowing your voice to pass through while maintaining seal. There are no exhale valves on the Israeli M-15, all the exhalation is done straight through the filter.

Hey i have teh m15 gas mask and i want to know more about the filter.

it ahs charcoal and what happens after it expires the 8 hours.will i die from the charcoal or anything?dose anything bad happen after expiration?

Doesn't have to be 8 hrs. A filter can be good for longer than 8 hrs, or shorter (down to minutes) depending on the toxin and the level of contamination. It's not like in the movies/games where people can live inside their mask, it's designed for you to make it through alive and get the hell out of there.

When the filter is fully saturated or expired, it will not protect as well or won't protect at all. In a safe atmosphere, nothing bad will happen. Unless its made with toxic material.

@Dannybroadsword1 How? All that's in a filter is some charcoal separated by two other pre-filters in a tin can. Maybe in the future they'll be able to make some high tech ones with an indicator when the inside is compromised.

The military uses detection equipment like detection paper. A lot of the filter manufacturers put out a chart of toxin/time giving the average time on how long it'll last. Sometimes you may find it increasingly harder to breathe, that's when you'll know to change it.

do you know if it's true that the filters can only be used for 8 hours after the seal is removed? i mean i figured that the filter would only become less effective or dangerous after it started catching contaminants, dust, soot, poison whatever. the manual says to throw the seal away but i kept it just in case, any info on it would be good. thanks!

@Twrecks92 Its important that you know what Im going to tell you. Every foiter has a shelf life, even when unopened. Generally, the filters have a shelf life of 8-10 years. Once you activate a filter, its good untill the prescribed amount of time, usually 8 hours. The m15 is 20-30 years old now, so ANY surplus filter should be considered expired. Your best bet is to buy new, current filters and make sure to check when its made and its prescribed shelf life.

I have the exact same type of filter, and I use it with my Soviet military mask. I go to a sirplus store in Portland (Oregon) called Andy and Bax. They have a nice selection of masks for pretty cheap (around $20), and they sell those filters for about $6 a piece.
