Many thanks for the kind comments. Hope its been of use. I found doing this video tutorial was easier that trying to explain it to half a dozen cub dens on different meet nights. It must have worked as they all turned up with rockets and flew them successfully. :-)
Most good model/hobby shops will sell the Estes Alpha 3 as a single rocket. These rockets came as a multipack for use with the Cub Scouts. They came from Tech Toys in Parsippany NJ.
