Do any of you live in cities?!? These kinds of things happen regularly, and cars that aren't driving by raging sociopaths know to simply wait it out. I live in DC; roads get unexpectedly shut down for a period of time whenever people get up in arms about something.
It's part of living in a free country. I would have -- and have, in the past! -- hit or kicked a car that was menacing pedestrians.
Anarchy breeds vigilantism. These protestors are taking justice into their own hands by blocking the roads and harassing drivers and it was met by this driver taking justice into his own hands. I lol at the situation.
Sadly they're both in the wrong (except the Asian lady, who I didn't see do anything to provoke or retaliate against anything). The pedestrian crossed against the don't walk signal, but pedestrians in crosswalks always have the right of way even without the signal because safety always trumps signals. But both parties were reacting emotionally rather than rationally, and this (bad decisions) is what emotional reactions usually turn into. It's sad for all involved.
I am all for OWS, but one thing is jaywalking, or crossing the street en masse regardles of the signals and a different one is to slam the car just because it is trying to slowly get out of the way before it gets engulfed by the crossing crowd....runnning over them is a harsh reaction to a harsh provocation, still criminal, but deserved. I think this car driver was provoking a negative reaction from the 2 pedestrians by driving up to their legs and seemingly touching them. Every normal reaction would be to keep a safe distance and activate the horn. Secondly, this driver obviously INTENTIONALLY inflicts heavy injury on one of the pedestrians by the sudden acceleration of his car. So who is committing a criminal act? I did some research into this story. It happened at the intersection of 11th and Broadway. If you goolemap it, and go to street view, it becomes apparent that the pedestrians that were struck were walking within the crosswalk, and that the driver was inching his way through the designated walkign area because he was pissed off by all the people crossing. Tough shit, same thing happens right after a game lets out.

In most major cities I've visited, trying to cross a street under those conditions is sometimes considered a suicidal attempt on the pedestrian's part. I see no reason to treat it any differently here.

You've never driven in a large city, have you? You have to wait till the pedestrians clear the road, because that doesn't always happen by the time your light comes. Actually, I blame the cops. They should have the protesters under control. If someone starts vandalizing or obstructing, they need to be immediately arrested. Some cop(s) let things get out of hand and this was the result. Sure they should be able to protest, but smacking a car is not "free speech". The situation should have never been allowed to exist.

It should be an interesting case. The guy in the car might not be considered free from bodily threat even though he has a car, because a mob is at least as much of a treat. Do any of you live in cities?!? These kinds of things happen regularly, and cars that aren't driving by raging sociopaths know to simply wait it out. I live in DC; roads get unexpectedly shut down for a period of time whenever people get up in arms about something.

Sadly they're both in the wrong (except the Asian lady, who I didn't see do anything to provoke or retaliate against anything). The pedestrian crossed against the don't walk signal, but pedestrians in crosswalks always have the right of way even without the signal because safety always trumps signals. But both parties were reacting emotionally rather than rationally, and this (bad decisions) is what emotional reactions usually turn into. It's sad for all involved.

I think this car driver was provoking a negative reaction from the 2 pedestrians by driving up to their legs and seemingly touching them. Every normal reaction would be to keep a safe distance and activate the horn. Secondly, this driver obviously INTENTIONALLY inflicts heavy injury on one of the pedestrians by the sudden acceleration of his car. So who is committing a criminal act? At this point the driver already committed and assault with a deadly weapon.
Once the pedestrian hits the hood of his car in anger for the driver nudging forward the driver retaliates by literally running over the pedestrian AND ANOTHER BYSTANDER.

I did some research into this story. It happened at the intersection of 11th and Broadway. If you goolemap it, and go to street view, it becomes apparent that the pedestrians that were struck were walking within the crosswalk, and that the driver was inching his way through the designated walkign area because he was pissed off by all the people crossing. Tough shit, same thing happens right after a game lets out.

@SheWhoGamesTooMuch Sorry, but no. These protesters were flat out ignoring traffic signals. The driver was edging up on them because he had a green light, and they had the "Don't Walk" signal. In most major cities I've visited, trying to cross a street under those conditions is sometimes considered a suicidal attempt on the pedestrian's part. I see no reason to treat it any differently here.
If these idiots want to claim right of way, then they need to at least wait for THEIR "go" signal.

Last I checked, pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way. I've had people cross in front of me at a green light, run across the street right in front of me, and so forth...and I hit the brake, not the gas. Because I'm not an asshole.

Case: attempted murder.
Lesson 2) The driver tried to switch seats with the passenger. Witnesses and video tape. Verdict: GUILTY, fined + jail time

If the guy had a gun pointed at his head OK but if he is responding to you nudging him with your bumper by hitting your hood no way. It was the protesters' lawful duty to yield to all vehicles when not in a cross walk either marked or unmarked. Also, no pedestrian is permitted to delay traffic even if they are in a crosswalk.The car was obviously moving forward bc there was a green light (with caution). 1. pedestrians are illegally crossing the street. Look at the traffic lights. Also they are not crossing in the crosswalks, jaywalking.
2. Pedestrians should allow traffic that has the right-of-way to proceed and then cross. If I was in that situation I would have "moved" them with my vehicle as well. They became a threat, what next? Busted windows and pulled out of car? Show up at my residence and threaten my life and you will see the business end of a firearm.

Actually, I blame the cops. They should have the protesters under control. If someone starts vandalizing or obstructing, they need to be immediately arrested. Some cop(s) let things get out of hand and this was the result. Sure they should be able to protest, but smacking a car is not "free speech". The situation should have never been allowed to exist.

It should be an interesting case. The guy in the car might not be considered free from bodily threat even though he has a car, because a mob is at least as much of a treat. If he just stayed there and took it, it could very well escalate to them turning over his car...and more. But, it clearly looks like revenge. I am glad the guy did not get away with the car damage but the driver deserves whatever the courts rule. In LA riots people were pulled out of their vehicles and murdered.
