Godric wasn't a Marty-Stu/Gary-Stu. He was aware there was no place in the world for someone like him and so he killed himself. It wasn't to save anyone, it wasn't to help anyone, it was something totally selfish. Hell, his original plan (die by the Fellowship) was something that caused a lot of problems and even got some of his friends (Stan) killed. Hardly the actions of a 'perfect' character.

What is it about the vampires of Godric's line? Godric gave himself to the fellowship to save them from being slaughtered by another vampire. Eric is sacrificing his life to stop Russell. Pam has yet to follow suit but she is not as cold as she once was. If you compare them to vampires like Russell, Lorena and even Sophie Anne the difference is obvious.There is something special about this line. I hope that we get to explore it further next season.

Awesome!! but don;t worry guys Eric will not die. my theory is that: I think pam lets bill go so he can feed sookie. then he tells her about what's happening to eric and russel. if you see the preview at 00:28 - 00:30 but really carefully, you see sookie running outside fangtasia towards what i think is eric. she;'s holding silver in her hand to contain russel so that eric can escape back to fangtasia. At least I think that will happen. somewhere along the way Alcide joins in as well.
