Even though Berlin Zoo has had baby elephants dying of the lethal elephant herpes virus - EEEHV - since 1998, they keep breeding. Since there are NO young elephants at the zoo now - and none moved - that means that all three young ones of that mother elephant Pang Pha have died. And she's pregnant again. Heartbreaking is what it is.

There's nothing wrong with the mother.. Geez. Not all elephants lie down when they're in pain or sick. Indian elephants are known to lie down frequently. All the mother wanted was to have a bit of a break and not have her heavy baby playing horsey on her back.

The mother is not wounded or hurt. The Berlin Zoo is famous for how well they care for their animals. The mother may have wanted to rest and the baby wanted to nurse. Baby elephants nurse for 2-3 years. Mama was just saying: "not now!". Think about this video - Elephants are among the intelligent animals on earth. Yet rich Americans still pay big money to shoot them in Zimbabwe.

There's something seriously wrong with that mother elephant..... elephants only lie down if they have a major problem. Also, to me it looks like the baby elephants is wanting to play, but the mother is essentially saying "Not now, go away, I'm in too much pain". Look at the 50 second mark, the mother is CLEARLY pushing the baby away.

Also, the mother really looks like she's trying to stand, but can't. Maybe one of her legs isn't working.

That's an incredibly sad video imo.
