@nothsim Straight razors are usually made from either carbon steel or stainless steel.Carbon steel can get a sharp edge on the hone just a bit quicker than stainless steel (stainless steel can apparently keep it's sharp edge for slightly longer before needing honing again) but it's more likely to rust if not coated with mineral oil. So stainless steel is more suitable for humid environments.

Hey Geo its been a while. Also been a while since i used my straight, i have to get up early for work so i've been using the DE. Sometimes the straight on the weekend but i find that if you don't keep up with they straight the first few shaves are like overgrown grass mowing. Anyway, i see you have a new mark on your cheek that wasn't there last time, i noticed cause i have one as well from my straight. Scar is almost gone now (for me) but if your gonna have a scar have a manly scar right? LOL.

I am going to get myself a straight razor and have a question or 2. When I shave, should I allow the razor to "rest" for 24 or so hours before using the razor again?-to allow the edge to re-align itself. Would that point be valid?

Q.2. When using a brand new straight, razor, even after stropping the blade before each use,I just know that eventually I'll have to sharpen it. What grade stone do you recommend for this occasional sharpening??
