I totaly agree mate, Like yeah people with accents dont realize they got accents but when ppl talk to ya from a different country they will tell you, that you got an accent :)
Only one person in my entire lifetime has ever been able to idenify my accent, and i didn't even bring up the subject. A cab driver in a small town in southern england pinpointed my accent to the province. I've never given a cab driver such a generous tip in my life
You're lucky, you know what its like from Western Canada? We sound just like the basic default American accent. I've spent enough time on the east coast to fake a Cape Breton accent, or i can do my pitiful attempt at a Quebecois or Acadian (although i'll be quickly found out as i don't speak French), but for the most part i have to deal with every one thinking of me, and treating me as an American.
well.. depends on the context. In real life here it stands out like a dogs sack, but on tv it just blends in. Slightly disturbing insight into how easy it is for ours brains to get used to things and not notice them anymore in a certain context. On the other hand it's a good indication that you need to do things out of your comfort zone to notice anything at all.
I don't get embarrassed when i hear an aussie accent on an american show, it think fuck yeah! Proud to be an AUSSIE!

Funny, when you said "I really don't talk like that", you sounded (to me) just like it! My poor accent recognition!

hehe, well at least I can easily tell the difference between Canadian and American. Probably due to watching too many Canadian tv shows as a kid.

I live in michigan and i can tell the difference between americans and canadians. They have longer vowels usually.

Is the american accent such a bland basic accent? Is everyone so used to hearing it that it dosen't sound weird?
