deathcore is not metal because its an extreme subgenre of hardcore punk...punk is not metal...metal elitists suck...but i do understand why people cant accept some nu metal bands as metal...example linkin park, limp bizkit...how metal is turntables and rap verses...disturbed is/was nu metal too but they dont have turntables or rap verses...plus they got me into metal...still they suck...

In my honest opinion, the main reason why most metal elitists hate The Black Album, was because it made money. Had The Black Album sold only around 2-4 million copies, "metalheads" would be lauding it as a very good metal album

I agree with everything you said. But unfortunately, extreme metal doesn't really appeal to most of the mainstream fans. Maybe that plays a factor in the 'Metal elitist' fear of mainstream, it's not so much that they're favorite bands may gain notoriety, but that in the process the bands may change their sound. perfect examples of that are bands like metallica, slipknot, & disturbed. Just to name a few.

I'm more of a progressive guy myself under which Veil of Maya falls. Along with After the Burial, Periphery, Protest the Hero, Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah, Born of Osiris, Animals as Leaders, and Between the Buried and Me. The bands I don't like are the "emo-core" bands ie bmth,tdwp, etf, and others in that area. Other than that I'm cool with most stuff. I may not like it myself, but I'm not going to knock it down.

I agree, but industrial metal is not "synthesizer metal". I love metal, but industrial is much more abstract than metal. If anything, true industrial metal is saving metal. Industrial is the farthest you can get from the mainstream, besides straight up noise. Industrial is noisy, harsh, disturbing, and hard to swallow for people not used to that sort of music. You should check out some Skinny Puppy and I, Parasite for Industrial. I wouldn't call deathstars industrial at all.

What is truly killing metal is the fact that metal elitists fear the mainstream. You can't fear the mainstream, you have to become it. Underground has become a thing of the past. The only bands that are still underground are either just getting started, or are awful in every way. Any band with a social network profile (which most bands nowadays have) automatically kills its status as "Undeground". The age of technology has done away with that.

I'm sure there is a real definiton of "mainstream" but I don't consider bands like "Shadows Fall" all that mainstream, Sure, a couple of songs by them may hit the radio or end up on Guitar Hero 2, but untill it gets post We Are Not Alone Breaking Benjamin, or Vol. 3 Slipknot popular, I don;t consider it mainstream.

But that's just me.

@toadtheterrible What rock bands do you mean? Most rock on the radio is either copying nickelback's sound or is emo (mall emo, not stuff like orchid) crap. Also I'll disagree about nu metal. Angsty childish lyrics, mind numbingly simple downtuned guitar chug riffs and shitty rapping don't make for good music. It makes it's parent genres of rap and metal (though it tends towards hard rock in reality) into a mockery. Again, if you know of any good nu-metal bands tell me.

Not exactly sure here but I think metalcore/deathcore relates more to punk than metal. The composition style is definitely not related to metal, but it does use a lot of metal elements. So what you really have there is punk painted metal. Still punk.

That's just the way it is. Metalcore is heavy metal/hardcore and as long as it leans more to the metal than the core, it's "real metal"

Deathcore is "Death" which is metal, and "Hardcore"

If it leans closer to death, it's considered "real metal"

The reason why some people hat it anyway is the simplicity of most of it. "chuga chuga chuga chuga" isn't enough in comparison to... say... "Jotun" by IF

mate - your're so right - I mean I don't listen to mainstream pop and I can't stand certain artists but I don't make videos/channels or go on the artists to bas musicians I hate. It's just really sad and attention seeking. I mean what makes them think their opinion is right (its only music) or that it will change anything? And in terms of metal, apart from possibly deathcore or post hardcore, its ALL the same thing - nobody has to like a certain genre in order to fit in.
