Petrucci used a lot of techiniques to keep this solo so melodical as possible. Bend in 1/4, 1/2 and 1 1/2 tom .Minor Arpejos, slow and faster, horizontal scales, pedal points and a lot of other things. Nice job, thats a good solo at all, and it reminds the great Gary moore. RIP Gary, you're still keeping inspiring us.

If anyone doesn't know. Mike Portnoy wrote this about his father who passed from cancer. Not James LaBrie. Mike Portnoy wanted something that was a tribute to his and his father time together who played the song for his father prior to his death. But all in all, this is a very well written, and very well played song. I don't think anyone can be more passionate in there guitar playing then John Petrucci.

Proof that anyone who says that John Petrucci is soulless and is all about technical skills is a moron. There's clearly a lot of "soul" in that solo. It relies a lot more on melodic lines than technicality. It fits perfectly with the mood of the song. Every single bit describes the song (it goes from sad to happy like the lyrics). It's amazing!

The solo Petrucci 'summons' is quite easily one of his best. He doesn't just shred one impossible note after another like many of his crazier efforts, he puts his soul on the line.. I consider his best since the all-great Stream of Consciousness.

For me it is the highlight of the entire album.
