This has to be my favorite song of the John Bush era. Except I really just found Anthrax and all I own is the Fight Em' Til You Can't Single. Though I found the last 3 real studio albums from Anthrax on Ebay, so I'll soon be headbanging my way through them.
@Thrashoholick Oh yes I plan on getting them, I'm just trying to get the Bush era stuff since apparently new copies are a thing of the past for them. I own all 4 studio albums with Bush now, so I'll definitely be trying to get the rest of their studio albums. I love Joey and I like him better than Bush because he tries for a higher range which is something I've always liked in metal music (aka Halford, Dio, ETC) and I"ve got to give a shout out to Niel Turbin as well. All great vocalists though.
Tbh, being someone who was brought up on the early Thrax' era, I like Joey & John Equally, I cant imagine Joeys songs would suit John & vise versa. Both have their strengths vocally.
@RottenCarcass1 As far as I'm concerned, I don't like Stomp 442 too much because all the songs sound alike to me, yet I find Volume 8 really amazing. Lotsa great tunes on it.
@kuzimoto1973 Slayer were shit in 1993? Nope, they were shit after 1994 After their release of Divine Intervention, one of my favorite albums off slayer, their guitar sounds is different, in the 80's up til 1990, it was all the same sound.
in 1994 i was in my mothers belly at 9 months she decided it was a great idea to go to see anthrax with my dad the sound man put her next to the speaker above all the moshers so she wouldnt get trampled and the sound vibration put her in labor blah la blah blah moral of the story is anthrax caused me to be born i am a anthrax child 4 life
@gonlaz yes, Jon's influence but it is definitely a "grunge sound", not that it's a bad thing. It's all just music. I was just saying it's my opinion that Joey's a better singer but their both good. chill man
I Delivered Gold Medal Soft Drinkks back in the early 90's. i bought this from Brashs in Broadmeadows S/C. It cost me $32.95 (AUD). It was so expensive......I had to wait an extra week to buy the next SlayeR CD, they were good times..Muth&*F*&%cR. Good friends and a bottle of pills.
going to go see them soon with megadeath,....... but i am really looking forward to seeing Anthrax,, aint going to miss them this time around!!!.....great song !!!!! thumbs up if you want to see them live..I sure as hell do!!!!
every band has its best album, and this was just enormous, suddenly anthrax just went from very good to classic, one of the best albums from any genre
a lovely song..but i still can not help but thinking he loves her..is there any songs out there that are pure hate against a ex..no love at all type songs
"Hey, it's Armored Saint"...This is what crosses my mind whenever I first hear a song with John-fronted Anthrax. I much prefer the "song bird" vocal style of Joey for Anthrax. John is great for Armored Saint.
I know how to hurt myself.....why must we all be so unkind?...I fuckin wash my hands of this....i know how to hurt you.....deal with the hate inside that causes you the pain inside that turns into the rage inside that makes you feel like death inside.....this song is about an ex girlfriend i swear...
guys...I respect Metallica and especially Cliff Burton as my musical inspiration bands but stop arguing or even talking about other bands here. Metallica is part of Anthrax history but let it be.
Oh i see what you did... the album art is changing colors... actually, that might be my wine. No, the art is really changing. Coo.
I know this album marked a departure from Anthrax's roots, and some might dis because of that, but I F***ing love just about every track. This one included. thanks for posting.
It's not that Rob is not skilled, he is probably one of the most skilled bassist, but somehow I feel something missing in his music, that Cliff for example did have, it's not just the skills.
Btw the albums Metallica did with Rob were more or less shit, it's not just his fault anyway.
About stage presence.. Yes that may be the point, why they let Jason in the band. He was not heard on the albums, but all fans loved him for his energa on stage.
yeah it still is metal, although i never heard the following albums just some songs. But still i guess anthrax was better in the among the living era but thats my opinion of course. Thx for answering ;)
My favourite album of theirs is State of Euphoria. :)
I think if the pop metal albums of the '80s had the same level of heaviness as the catchy-than-most-thrash Spreading the Disease, people wouldn't complain too much when the terms glam or hair metal are mentioned. :D
That song got "remade" by a band called Behemoth but it's not really a cover, just a homage that's been labeled as a rip-off.
The song Who Cares Wins contains a throwaway riff that would be the dominant one in Metallica's I Disappear.
Scott Ian also thought Euphoria was weak (although he thinks it's better than their first album) because they didn't have enough time to develop stuff (they were set to join Iron Maiden for the Monsters of Rock festival).
"We were writing these seven-to-eight minute songs, and I listen to them now and think that we could have had three really good songs with all the parts we put into just one song. So it kind of trips me out because it's almost like we wasted a lot of good riffs, in a sense, because we could have done the same thing on those records with a lot less material. But that's just where we were at the time. We just didn't know any better."
"Euphoria wasn't finished. I mean, I can talk about it now, but obviously back in '88 I wasn't going to sit there in interviews and say, 'Well, this album is mediocre because we didn't spend enough time writing it as we felt the pressure of going out on tour with Maiden in Europe and had to get the record done'. But looking back at it now, we should have spent another three months writing it. So many of those songs on that record just sound unfinished to me."
"Among the Living was a big hit then, all of a sudden, instead of that 'clawing to the top' kinda feeling that we had, it was wow, something's working here, we were all in a happy mode."
"We were given lots of money, go buy fucking houses, hurry up and spend it and do this... everyone was in a state of euphoria and when we wrote that album that's just what came out of us. They're all good songs, but it's not the way I would like to portray the name Anthrax with my signature."
I've read tons of interviews over the years so I just compiled the relevant info together.
Spreading the Disease is a classic. That album did for Anthrax, what Ride the Lightning did for Metallica.
Joey saw that as his best because the structuring of the songs allowed him to show off his singing talent.
I can imagine why the other guys liked working with him at first, in that he had something that would lend itself to Anthrax being touted as the American equivalent to Iron Maiden.
Hehe yeah, this site seems to be occupied by a lot of foul-mouthed angst-ridden teens.
Anyway, I like STD (cool pun) because it proved Anthrax could make music that was just as catchy as the disease itself but it also proved that there was such a thing as making heavy metal melodic without it being pop metal (ala Metallica's '84 album).
On SOE, Anthrax proved you can have positive lyrics interlaced with heavy hitting music.
With all the baggage, I'm surprised 13 is a small instrumental.
i hate you n you hate me,i cannot look at u n breath,so full of hate that i can't see,my funny vibe is hard to miss,ur ignorance can't be called bliss....THIS IS IN YOUR FACE KINDA SHIT!

Euphoria is one of their weakest IMO - but Be all end All is one of my faves.
stevieVantanna 3 years ago
I agree about Be all End all.
JosephKuby 3 years ago
This is what Scott had to say about Euphoria:
"We were writing these seven-to-eight minute songs, and I listen to them now and think that we could have had three really good songs with all the parts we put into just one song. So it kind of trips me out because it's almost like we wasted a lot of good riffs, in a sense, because we could have done the same thing on those records with a lot less material. Dan Spitz:
"Among the Living was a big hit then, all of a sudden, instead of that 'clawing to the top' kinda feeling that we had, it was wow, something's working here, we were all in a happy mode."
"We were given lots of money, go buy fucking houses, hurry up and spend it and do this... everyone was in a state of euphoria and when we wrote that album that's just what came out of us. They're all good songs, but it's not the way I would like to portray the name Anthrax with my signature."

My personal favorite is Spreading the Disease - I guess many would think it sounds dated or something - but it's the best fit for Joey.

Spreading the Disease is a classic. That album did for Anthrax, what Ride the Lightning did for Metallica.

Yeah....Be End all is amazing - the lyrics are so positive and inspiring and I even love Dan's solo.
Most of the songs start off good, then they really start to DRAG ....like "ok here comes the pre-chorus again...really boring.
