Through out the world the general age of consent is 16. Again I wouldnot want to get with a youngster but it's hard to tell how old some chicks are. The other day I asked this chick how old she was and she told me 19. And it killed the conversation.

@meatisdeliciouse Well that's the law, I don't write it. But I can definitely see the reasoning behind it. It's meant to protect adolescence from predatory and much older adults. For example, you won't want a 30 year old man having sex with a 14-year old. While at the same time, the law wants to recognize that teens close in age are going to experiment and do not want to penalize them for this. This is true for this particular example and can be different in different states.

@meatisdeliciouse Actually having sex with a 13-year old is a serious offense if you're an adult. But I do have to say that the politicians just play to the voters, the public. I live in CA, and the AOC is 18. I can say that these cases are prosecuted seriously. But in CA, they have Romeo and Juliet laws and recognize people having sex between 14-18. These cases may still be prosecuted, but just not as harsh.

Albeit, it may not be common sense at times. 12 is the lowest I've heard of. 13 in spain, 13 in japan, and i think 13 in mexico. And 13 in certain states in US if: you're married, the girl gets pregnant and you remain together, or if you're close in age.

@meatisdeliciouse While it may still be legal in some states to have sex at that age in certain circumstances. These cases are relatively few today. And in general 12,13, 14 is highly frowned upon in the US. Did you hear about the 13-year old dad?

@meatisdeliciouse Actually having sex with a 13-year old is a serious offense if you're an adult. But I do have to say that the politicians just play to the voters, the public. I live in CA, and the AOC is 18. I can say that these cases are prosecuted seriously. But in CA, they have Romeo and Juliet laws and recognize people having sex between 14-18. These cases may still be prosecuted, but just not as harsh.

@kawola17 I ust think they need to be a bit more consistant, if the AOC is 16 then they should just relize that at that moment they should be recognised as an adult, not some sort of half adult where some silly burocratic BS dictates the ages of the loves/abuser. If the AOC is 13 witch is too low then they should be seen as adults in the eyes of the law, not controll the "ages" of the partner. If your old enough to have sex, then in my eyes you are an adult and you are not an adult till your 18.

@kawola17 It's a bit like saying you can drink alcohol at 12, but you can only buy it if you don't drink it on a working day, alcohol is alcohol and if you old enough to buy it, your old enough to drink it on your own acord. Why is it any diferance in an "adult" having sex with a 13 year old and another "child" sex is for adults and if the AOC is 13, witch I don't agrea with then you shoul legaly be able to drive a car, have a sexual partner of any age, buy acohol, vote and all the rest.

@meatisdeliciouse As far as gay the climate, it certainly is better now then it was several decades ago. Homosexual sex use to be illegal and you could be jailed for this. The gay climate has certainly improved, but I agree that it can still be miles better. I don't know too much about gay's being baned from army. I don't know where you live, but SF is gay-friendly.

@kawola17 It also depends on the country, a country such as Norway or some of the other Artic/Scandinavin countries have been gay friendly for a lot longer than anywhere else. I think the Norwigian army lifted the bad on gay people joining the army in 1979, though I',m not sure. I don't think attitudes in some ereas have changed that much really in the last 70 odd years, just that laws and some people's attitudes have become more lightned on the issue.

@meatisdeliciouse Interesting. But I do have to point out that is where the change begins. I believe many of our laws change first at the social level. For example, take the civil rights moment. When did a black person go from being a nigger, only 2/3 vote, and a slave, to being recognized as a individual and now we have a black president? What changed? Someone down the road said, hey this isn't right. Or maybe, hey I have a black friend and he's alright.

@meatisdeliciouse Social attitudes change and then we as a society create laws that represent this change. If you notice, the Constitution and our Bill of Rights never changed during this time. And laws don't just change by themselves. It's people's attitudes that shape our laws. 70 years is not quite enough. But for homosexual sex being illegal to legal is quite a significant change when you consider the pace of progress in our country.

everyone assumes that it is 18 across the US, at least, this is how it seems, but I recently learned that POYKPAK was correct in labeling Indiana (my home state) as 14, meaning my best friend isn't a terrible person (he's dating a 15 year old and he's just turned 18)...
And as far as I could tell by reading through the given sections, that is 100% accurate.

Thing that most people dont get is 16 or 17 might be the age of concent but all that really means is that legally at those ages a kid knows that he or she is doing and is legally mature to make those choices. that doesnt mean that if ur some 25 or 30 yr old guy that its open season on 16 and 17 yr olds
